Kim Myles is a Pro on the Today Show

It is hard to believe that it was less than two years ago when Kim Myles was named the winner of Design Star. She is a testament to how quickly and how completely the title can change a life — not to mention influence millions of TV viewers. Kim has become one of HGTV’s most loved designers.

This was Kim then.

Kim's life changes on the Design Star stage.

This was Kim recently when she served as a guest judge on HGTV’s $250,000 Challenge. The host of Myles of Style was on hand to challenge and encourage the contestants vying for the quarter-million-dollar prize. She knows a little something about designing a room on a deadline when there are big stakes at hand.

And this was Kim just last week on the Today Show when she was asked to tackle a timely topic: how to decorate a bedroom on a budget.

Kim

Kim's bedroom design got a thumbs up from the Today show's late morning hosts.

Kim’s ideas included: repurposing an old lace tablecloth as a headboard, framing tin ceiling tiles for simple art that shines and making lighting fixtures with twine, glue and a balloon. She described the look as country with clean lines and contemporary with rustic touches. Good stuff.

Alongside Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, Kim was a delight to watch, as confident and charming as ever, rolling with the punches of live TV — a true professional on camera and I’m told, off camera as well. Check out the entire segment here or to see more of Kim’s ideas on video, visit the Myles of Style show page.

Congrats, Kim! How fun to watch your Design Star rise higher and higher. Will the next design star hopefuls be as bright? We’ll soon see! T-minus 26 days and counting!

  1. Some of the shows we love are running new episodes. You just have to search for them. For example there was a new episode of Myles of Style at 4 in the afternoon on a Saturday. Spice up my kitchen, Color Splash and Divine Design are also showing new episodes. I found them while channel surfing.

Your best bet is to go to the TV guide web site and find out if there is a new episode coming on.

    Good luck all

  4. I love Kim Myles and her show. I also like David Bromstad. Most of all, I wish Designer's Challenge would come back! Really enjoyed that show as well as the House Hunters and Divine Design. Some of those real estate shows like Buy Me, Property Virgins, My First Place, the Stagers…they can go!!! I also liked Curb Appeal. It was nice quick show as well as Design on a Dime.

    • As my dad always says 'That's why they make chocolate and vanilla." And this is a classic reason why!

I really dislike Myles of Style. Its become a running joke in our household that you know what colors Kim is going to use before she pulls her hand out of her 'bag of tricks.' As a host, we find her boring and uninspiring. On the other hand, we LOVE The Stagers, Buy Me, and Real Estate Intervention. So I guess this explains why HGTV tries to cover all the bases.

  5. Kim Myles certainly had her share of determined detractors in the beginning, and even today a few stragglers remain, but as Kim must certainly know, success is the best revenge!

    Way to go, Kim!

  6. By the way, congratulations to John Gidding for his hard-fought winning design versus David Bromstad on Designer's Challenge. Both well done, but in the end, the homeowner chose John's design.

  7. I miss Kim on Myles of Style. She is an inpiration for black talented women. You must keep on.
She breaks down the concept of "hegemony." Plus, she has talent and I love her colorful designs.
    Bring her back Please!

    • Hegemony…. political or cultural domination?
I don't think that term applies here, does it?

  8. I wish you would bring Kim Myles back. As I said before, she is an inspiration to black women, who are also gifted and talented. She breaks down the concept of "Hegemony." She is hip and cool.
Most of all, she has style and is talented. I love her warm designs. All women love her because she is very genuine and caring. Please bring her back.

  9. I don't know why we don't see more of Kim on HGTV. Her Beach bedroom was beyond beautiful especially that conch shell wall art. Her outdoor rooms are wonderful also. I don't think that cactus garden would hold up though. But Wow (REALLY THINKING OUT OF THE BOX). I may try a smaller version of it in my yard. I want to see more Kim

  10. I really can't imagine how anyone could think that Kim's not talented and a natural TV personality. She gives more specific, original, and beautiful suggestions than anyone else on HGTV! She has definitely found her niche…
