Fan Vote is Back!

Design Star premieres this Sunday at 10/9c. Time to catch up on past episodes, get to know the new designers, visit us on Facebook and most importantly, the fan favorite vote is back!

Design-Star-Designer-Grid

Every day, you have the chance to vote up to 10 times for your favorite designer and the winner will win a show on HGTV.com. Last season’s winner, Dan Vickery, transforms kids’ rooms and nurseries for our Kid-Sized Design series.

Plus, check out our preview of the premiere, where the designers tackle the white room challenge first.

  1. Ok, I just checked out the portfolio's of each designer and I already have some favs. Just based on what they have so far I like (in particular order) Trent Hultgren, Nina Ferrer, and Alex Sanchez. Can't wait to watch the first episode!

  2. Any chance viewers will get a "real" voice in the choice of the "TV" designstar winner as opposed to the online winner? The on line job is just that –a job. Will there be an apology to the viewers for last year's scam?(not likely) What happened to Clive? Will Dan ever get to do a regular weekly broadcast(on TV)? Was it last year's editing or did the "judges" really let their hormones cloud their judging? I'll give it one episode, if it's not up to snuff I'll be gone for good!

  3. It seems that people will vote, as last year, for the fan favorite, who gets an online "show", but viewers of Design Star won't be selecting the actual winner of the TV show. Too bad. If true, another big missed opportunity to improve the program.

    • I AM WITH YOU. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NOT THE JUDGES.

ANDILAURIE on June 13, 2010 at 6:09 pm
    • Where do you go to find out about whether or not viewers ge to actually vote like we did they first few seasons? I was truly upset when we were left out on the vote last season. I see nothing on the website that says anything — except on the blog. Doesn't HGTV realize that's part of what made their show a success? Letting America vote — for real — on who gets the TV show? If they want a show that's popular — and one that people will watch — let us choose. After last year — I refused to watch Antonio. I changed the channel every time he came on. If we can't vote, I'm not even sure if I want to invest my time in watching it this year.

      • I agree, Susan – Antonio may have talent (although definitely NOT my taste). Never watched his show and never will; I found him to be obnoxious. We had no voice and I'm leery of these "online shows; they sound like an 'appeasement' for not getting to vote for the real Design Star.

  4. Am I the only one getting a bit tired of this whole Design Star thing? Do we really need another series of this to determine who becomes a Design Star or can't HGTV think of a new and exciting way to come up with an interesting designer and/or show??? Just wondering…..

    • WE ARE A RETIRED COUPLE AND WE LOVE DESIGN SHOWS….BUT…..THERE ARE NONE LIKE THERE USED TO BE. DESIGN ON A DIME, DESIGN REMIX, ETC ETC. NOW ALL WE SEE IS REAL ESTATE , REAL ESTATE AND HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY BEING SPENT ON HOMES THAT ARE TOTALLY OUT OF RANGE FOR THE AVERAGE AMERICAN. WE WANT TO RE DECORATE WHAT WE HAVE. WHERE IS KIM, JENNIFER AND DAN..FORGET ANTONIO. WHERE IS ANGELO GONE TO. WE SEE NEW NAMES BUT NO SUBSTANCE TO DESIGN. GET REAL MOST AMERICANS CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY NEW HOMES BUT WE COULD SURE USE DESIGN SHOWS TO HELP US REDO THE OLD HOMESTEAD.

ANDILAURIE on June 13, 2010 at 6:07 pm
      • I could not agree more! HGTV started out wonderfully but has deteriorated tremendously over the years. I very much miss the true design shows. Now we have the extremely cheap-to-produce "House Hunters" EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!! Enough already!!!!

        Mary H on June 14, 2010 at 2:57 am
      • I too was asking this question. I found that some of them come on in the daytime. I was so happy to find some of the old shows that I used to love. I don't mind the house buying shows mixed in with the design shows. I really like the design shows that show things I can do.

      • BRAVO to this post. I thought I was alone in wanting the 'old' shows!

  5. i said after i saw candice and geniveve behave so badly last year, i woudn't watch it again. and i'm not going to. last year was a total fiasco. and antonio's designs are still bad.

randi on June 13, 2010 at 4:04 pm
    • I just don't watch his show. I dont' know what they saw in him but I don't know anyone who likes him.

DiBaskin on June 14, 2010 at 3:11 am
    • I can't get into his show…Boooooooooooooooring!

  6. true but we will give it a try. we want to know why that hgtv keeps this going when David is the only one who IS THE DESIGN STAR

ANDILAURIE on June 13, 2010 at 5:58 pm
    • ITA- David is the one and only Design Star.

  7. What has happened to HGTV? I'm sick of watching people buying their vacation homes in the Islands. I want what this network built itself on…DESIGN!

Deb on June 13, 2010 at 6:23 pm
    • I agree 100%. "House Hunters" is so cheap to produce – but enough already. We want design!

      Mary H on June 14, 2010 at 3:02 am
    • Oh, Deb, I sooo couldn't agree more! Where are the quality design shows!! Can't watch another House Hunters/HH International…sure, they can make those shows cheaply with one cameraman and maybe a production person or two, but is that any reason to blanket every evening and weekend with these shows? Is HGTV going under? They will if they don't get a hold of themselves and again invest in substantive programing. Somebody at HGTV – please listen!

  8. Personally, I'm looking forward to the show. I thought Candice, in particular, was a great addition to the show last time. It would be fun if voters made up 50% and judges 50%. If the winner doesn't succeed in their show … then they don't have the specific talent for a tv show.

JoDee on June 14, 2010 at 12:13 am
  9. Will not be watching Design Star this year. I use to really enjoy the show but last year was too much. So tired of real estate, big money shows. Will be turning on "Color Splash, Miami" tonight though. I'm interested in design and home improvement shows. HGTV has been disappointeing for some time.

    phyllisann2k on June 14, 2010 at 2:12 am
  10. I’m so glad to see that others are as disgusted with last year’s outcome,I.e., Antonio, as I was. He is the antithesis of a design star. I hope that HGTV will allow the fans to vote on the winner of the tv show this year. It seemed clear that Candice and Genevieve outvoted Vern last year in selecting Antonio. They should have listened to Vern…
