If you could trade places with Candice, Genevieve and Vern this week, who would you send home?

The reason American Idol has been so successful is because the American people actually are given a voice as to who they want to be their idol, unfortunately this show doesn't give their audience a voice…Therefore since we have absolutely no control who stays or who goes, I doubt that many people care, I know I don't.
Mark on July 6, 2010 at 10:30 pm
Oh wait I take that back it seems like some people do care and want the she devil, along with her squiggly so called art to take a hike…I see flowers are the next inspiration…Oh boy I can't wait!
Mark on July 6, 2010 at 11:57 pm
Well, for one, this isn't American Idol, this is 'Design Star' (completely different animal). Second, I feel that we, America, should leave this up to the professionals. With their expertise, they can see talent in the overall picture with their trained eye. They also have a lot more knowledge in the least little detail of someone's work. I think they do a fabulous job! Oh! and as part of the audience, I get excited and look forward to the next show and who the judges let go. Always, so far, I feel that they made the right choices.
American on July 10, 2010 at 4:37 pm
as far as I am concerned, send the judges home, and the person who thinks up those silly challenges. I wish the show had something to do with real design or creativity.
Its time to clean house at HGTV………
George on July 12, 2010 at 5:57 am
Last nights show should have Alex going home, and Nina next! Dan hasn't really had a chance in front of a camera and Alex had. The judges should have considered this in their decision. If Nina was to win this event, WHO would watch the show? NOT ME. Can't handle seeing evil at work!
sharon on July 12, 2010 at 4:36 pm
I agree with you, Mark. I think Vern, Genevieve, and Candace should go home. This season's DS is very disappointing. I think the challenges are ridiculous! I thought designing was about making a space that is attractive and livable. I think that is lost in the crazy challenges. I think it's time for this show to end.
Ann on July 13, 2010 at 3:02 pm
I know that I would not let Nina into my house if she were the last designer on earth. She'd probably turn my house into a mass of swirls and curls…
Sue on July 13, 2010 at 3:34 pm
You're naive if you think that American Idol isn't fixed …although the "votes" probably factor in to their behind-the-scenes decisions.
Hard to say who has exceptional talent so far on Design Star based on the challenges they have been given. They should, in any case, pay attention to who the viewers actually LIKE.
EternalEnergyEntity on July 18, 2010 at 3:42 am
Well Mark I vote daily. I have no control over who stays or goes on the tv show but we do have control somewhat of who gets the web show. I'll vote for what I can control.
Oh yeah?…So which designer is earning your votes, if you don't mind me asking?…I personally liked what I saw in Trent's pictures the best, but he wasn't really able to show that caliber of work on the show.
Mark on July 7, 2010 at 2:51 am
I haven't seen enough of any of the designer's work yet to have a clear favorite to vote for.
Rebecca27 on July 7, 2010 at 12:47 pm
I would say Alex should go home next. He seems to have mishaps on every episode & unable to complete a project the way he claims he originally wanted. I dont care for Courtland because he makes fun of his peers a bit too much…laughing at Trents tree…..Stacy seems to be too shy, Michael appears to be a bit too know it all for me…Nina also, too pushy. I cant see what Casey can do, she fades in the background. Thus far, I think I'd like Dan & Tom to be the remaining 2.
Hopeful on July 7, 2010 at 1:43 am
Alex doesn't seem to be able to step up to the plate…I thought I liked Courtland until he showed his true colors, and then I was wishing he had literally been thrown under a "moving" bus…Stacey is as interesting as a chair…Michael and Nina are two "know it all, we're the best" peas in a pod…Arrogant Tom should date Vern, because they're a match made in design hell…Dan doesn't seem artistic or creative enough and should stick to construction…And then there's Emily, who I'm wondering why she's still there, and you seemed to have left completely out.
Mark on July 7, 2010 at 3:32 am
Tom is my favorite, too. He is a team player, he's supportive of his teammates and is a consensus builder. That comes from maturity. His designs aren't crazy (like Antonio) and he isn't a "one trick pony" like Nina. He doesn't bad mouth others, as Courtland does. He isn't full of himself, like Nina. The other three women just don't "come through." I'm rooting for Tom.
Who really cares about their personalities hopeful? This is a design star show! It's a home and garden television network! Not bachelor or bachelorette.
cangenver on July 12, 2010 at 3:35 am
I wish Dan wouldn't have been eliminated. I'm really mad!
ribs on July 12, 2010 at 6:55 pm
Unfortunately Dan was eliminated b4 Alex which is just crazy. This is not at all how I felt!
drcpebbles on July 19, 2010 at 7:54 pm
Based solely on design and how well they are doing on the show, I would say Alex needs to go home. He just seems so lost?
Based on the criteria of the "new" design star, I would say Nina, because she is such a #$%. I'm not waiting for them to eliminate Nina though, cuz the producer wouldn't allow it. For him, she's good TV!
Alex is in so far over his head. How he has survived this long is a mystery — either plain dumb luck or he is part cat and has nine lives. I agree that Alex should go home because he isn't ready to be a designer; perhaps he should work for someone else and get experience. Nina should go home because the public hates her and her talent is extremely limited. That she's lasted so long makes me wonder just who she "knows."
You are right she is a pushy, two faced, b—-. I will not watch any show she is on.
Patty on July 12, 2010 at 4:09 am
I agree Alex needs to go home. He can't even buy the right kind of paint. come on judges why send home the only guy that was keeping the girls afloat. I hate the boys against girls teams. Let's see some individual challenges and let's see some new teams. I don't like this new format. I may have to quit watching.
Hopefully they will cut their losses and there won't be a next year. Design Star has gone downhill a little more with each season, and this season it's outdone itself on being BAD. The only way they should come back next year is if they make some significant changes, go back to the original format, and focus on design, not drama.
Rebecca27 on July 7, 2010 at 12:53 pm
I agree Vern needs to go, HGTV has made a mistake in putting him on the show. He is just rude and not interesting at all.
Dee on July 7, 2010 at 9:41 pm
Ditto to that.
Jeanieq on July 7, 2010 at 6:10 pm
Ditto. But send Genevieve home with Vern.
Goose on July 12, 2010 at 3:34 am
I sooooo used to love Vern on Trading Spaces-his designs were realistic and seemed to be sweet and genuine. Now, I am not so sure. Who is the real Vern?
Gin on July 8, 2010 at 3:42 am
Amen to that! But honestly should there even be a next season? Just cut your losses and throw in the towel!
CharlesD on July 8, 2010 at 5:22 pm
I agree! I don't like this new whisper- and- talk- in- front- of- the- contestants thing. The judges look ridiculous this season.
They also seem rude and snobby!
lbu on July 12, 2010 at 2:56 am
You are right! They are arrogant and mean, and that whisper-and-talk thing is completely ridiculous.
jeannie on July 12, 2010 at 3:05 am
I agree. This is the dumbest season of DS yet.
javaguy80 on July 12, 2010 at 3:03 am
Agreed. Where did Vern find this ridiculous "bad a*#" attitude?
JSL on July 12, 2010 at 3:09 am
I agree they all need to go. That is all three judges. They all come across as real on their own shows, but I have no idea who these three people are on this show. They project an air of arrogance which makes me not care what their opinions are.
Also I'm sick to death of these "team" projects and the stupid premise behind each design inpiration. I'm a daffodil and I have to incorporate it into the team space. Please bring back the individual challenges with the contestants designing for people.
The only design star ever produced by this show is David Bromstead on Color Splash. All the other winners were okay, but none have his personality or design talent. I agree they should quit while they're ahead and not have another season.
JoeyDee on July 12, 2010 at 3:20 am
I think so too he always picks apart everybody elses design when i havent seen any of his own. He makes me mad because he always sticks up for Nina and just makes everybody feel bad about their design choices. I mean really, " it looks like a clown car exploded over there" ??? It was mean and didnt even make any sense at all. He makes me angry.
I love DAN on July 12, 2010 at 6:52 pm
I have always been a major fan of Vern's–until the last few episodes of Design Star. I understand how these shows are formatted–they require fake drama, apparently, and someone gets appointed to play Bad Cop. But Vern especially (and Constance as a close second) make the show unwatchable for me. What is accomplished by abject rudeness, incivility and negativity? These two tend to piss on everyone from a great height. That is not to say they aren't amazing designers because, of course, they are. Why don't they use their talents to 'light the way' for these design-show-hopefuls (some of whom really don't have a snowball's chance, I realize), instead of acting like they're in charge of the gulag? I get it–I know it's all a big construct–but I believe these two are doing damage to their individual reps, their viewership and the credibility of HGTV in general. Sorry HGTV felt constrained to adopt the blatant phoniness of shows like The Apprentice.

I have not seen the July 6th show yet but I am tired of Trent wearing that stupid hat. He is rude for not taking the hat off. Nina needs to back the truck up, or better yet shut the front door. Nina ,a reasonable amount of healthy narcissism allows the individual's perception of his needs to be balanced in relation to OTHERS. Get it!!!! OTHERS. Do you really think of others. Oh boy are you an artist or what???? Then there is short stuff judge,,,"I think we've seen everything we need to see so let's go." Do you always speak for everyone else?
whatevers clever on July 7, 2010 at 4:59 am

Hayley on July 7, 2010 at 10:56 am
The next time you talk about Nina learn how to spell. I guess your brain and obvious IQ are missing . Nina is nothing but a BULLY and how could HGTV make her a design star. Can you just see it a client tells her what the want and like and she tells them that she won't give her design up and it's her way or nothing. She thinks she is just to talented and everyone should listen to her PERIOD.
c rockwell on July 8, 2010 at 11:19 pm
Nina is a very rude and mean person. She may have put in some good ideas…and some bad ideas, but I don't want to watch a show of someone I know is going to treat people with such disrespect. She is all about herself, and not enough about the team. You win the opportunity for a tv show of your own, but if you have the American public hating you first, no one will watch it. If no one will watch your show, then someone else should have had a chance to do it.
I think she is kind of bossy and doesn't listen to her team (ad I use the word team lightly.) she does have talent but she bullies her way to the top and i get that to win you need to stand your ground but she is kinda…mean. also i hate the way she acts like she knows everything. also, i think she could do more than a wall mural in her design. i did like the wall in the music challenge. it was pretty good!
