  1. WELL the girls will have a hard time without Dan if they do any construction.
    Alex shouldhave gone home…
Dan was very good… just spent too much time helping the girls..and did not think through his design…

Glenda on July 16, 2010 at 10:48 am
    • I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT DAN ….
BUT I KINDA OF DISAGREE ABOUT ALEX…
I THINK HE HAS ALL THE POTENTIAL TO REALLY BE A GOOD DESIGN HOST BUT HE IS PLAYING TO RESERVED IN SOME EPISODES AND ACTING TO NERVES AND QUIET IN OTHERS… IF HE WAS TO START DOING SOME INDIVIDUAL WORK LIKE HE HAS DONE IN THE PAST IN HIS PORTFOLIO HE COULD REALLY INSPIRE ME TO CONTINUE TO WATCH THE SHOW… WHEN THEY CUT HIM… OFF THE SHOW. I WILL STOP WATCHING ALL TOGETHER BECAUSE THE REST OF THE CAST IS BORING AND WELL TO DRAMATIC FOR ME…. ALEX NEEDS TO REALLY SHINE THIS WEEK OR I AM CUTTING THIS CRAP FOR GOOD

    • What do we have to do to get Dan back? Nina should go.

  2. Aren't Nina and Courtland acting very buddy-buddy lately? I thought Courtland still held a grudge from being thrown under the Nina Bus?

Jen on July 16, 2010 at 4:47 pm
    • Yeah…I thought the same thing….maybe because both have been in the bottom a couple of times, they have something more in common to talk about and be friendlier towards each other …both eating a piece of humble pie…..personally I don't think either one of them would trust the other one and would still throw each other under the bus in a New York second if they thought it would help them.

    • Tired of DRAMA. Bring back Clive, individual design and leave the big brother crap out of it! Let the judges judge and let Clive host. PERIOD

  3. This is supposed to be "Design STAR", not design star TEAM. What's up, producers, with all this togetherness?? I know one has to be able to work with others to be the right one, but other than the white room, nobody has had the chance to do anything on their own. And Glenda's right — if the girls need any building done, they're in trouble without Dan.
I started to send my portfolio and a tape to you guys for this season, but seeing how the show has changed, I'm very glad I didn't. Nina would have her hands full with me, since I wouldn't allow her to roll over me as she has done with everyone so far. I just don't understand why the judges appear to have it all in hand when the tape's being shown to us. If they truly did understand what was going on throughout all these challenges, including the dirty trick Nina played on Courtland, she would have been gone this week, at the latest. Dan should have never sacrificed himself for the good of the group and Nina was the one keeping him so busy he didn't even get to do his own thing. Maybe if this is all up to the judges, and we don't get to vote like we did for Bromstad, Myles and Jennifer, they should look at what's going on behind the scenes and among the hopefuls. If they were really trying to find the best of the best, their opinions would change and change a LOT.:o

    • Just thought I'd comment since you were the first blogger I noticed who might consider auditioning. The show no longer seems to be about finding a new host as much as it is about stirring controversy. I think the problem might be that as a vehicle for potential hosts the show has not been that successful. It is a shame but they may have brought in the new concept to keep people talking about the show, since David B. has turned out to be their only money maker. I'm a designer and friends have joked about me sending in my own auditon tape, but I don't think design ability is the shows focus any longer.

CharlesD on July 16, 2010 at 6:05 pm
    • I agree with you about the TEAM thing. What's with putting all the girls and guys in groups. I thought it was much better last season when each episode had a different grouping of 2 or more to work on a project. This girls against guys stuff is getting old. Each designer has strenghts and weaknesses and it would be nice to see them work with different people each week.

jbrindley on July 18, 2010 at 10:06 pm
    • Tasteful, I so feel that! All that teamwork is like soooo giving me a headache! Likkeeee Seriously!

And btw: Noone cares about Nina's stupid artwork sooo I don't know why she keeps doing it! She's such an idiot lol.

    • This DESIGN show is a joke…. High Schoolers blind folded could do a better job than these guys. I am not sure why I continue to watch this show. Please tell me it gets better.
How embrassing for the judges to be on this show. I seem to have lost respect for all of them.

    • thank you,I thought I was the only one who thinks this season stinks!!!!!!! I think this show sould be called design loser. There is no talent in this group. Did the producers pick the bottom of the barrel for this show? I am sad that 3 of my favorite show host have become such nasty, mean and cruel slims. The judges on the past seasons gave helpful guidence and showed support to the designers. This season the jugdes are just mean. Shame on the judges for selling their soles to the devil just to keep a job. Now I am thinking twice before I watch their shows because they are just business people who are not as they present themselves. The new producers don't understand what this show is all about. This is suppose a contest but in the past they shared the how they did the designs with the lay person. This was never like those other contest shows. I guess this was HGTV's way to get rid of this show, make it soooooooooooo bad we would not want to watch!! This show is road kill in TV LAND.

  4. I totally agree with tasteful. Nina should be gone. She does the same things every week including her nasty role of running over everybody because she thinks she knows best. To me she is no more than a wannabe artist. I believe she is in the wrong field. And, her artistic endeavors are not that impressive. The first season was by far the best. The criteria the contestants faced was much more keyed to selecting the best designer not who can run all over everybody else without showing ANY talent at all. And, to me, that is exactly what Nina shows, no talent. She could not make it in the real world with her minimal talents and especially since she cannot seem to work with others without running all over them. That is not what good design is all about. Dan is good in his design. Again, tasteful is correct in her assessment that Nina kept him running in circles trying to carry out her every wish and command. Wish I was there, she would find out what design is all about, and it would not be pretty, at least for her. The three judges are my favorite stars. Their designs are extremely beautiful as well as functional. Nina just does not cut it. Please go back to the format in season 1 and let us see some real stars of David's caliber.

Unhappy in Atlanta on July 16, 2010 at 5:12 pm
    • nina is all about nina, I don't think she is able to listen to a client and design a room for a client. Nina only designs what she wants or likes, the sooner she is dropped the better.

Clair Johnson on July 19, 2010 at 2:30 am
    • Yes, I agree with you 100%, the first season was the best, not to say the only good season…The judges as very good designers, being Candice my favorite. She is a really sweet person, but Geniveve, and Vern should learn how to talk to people, no matter how upset they are…The way the show ended tonight telling people "get out of here" is terrible…He should be ashamed of himself…You need to be professional no matter what

Andres Moran on July 19, 2010 at 3:19 am
    • Wow. I am very glad Nina is gone and I thought her design was stupid. But Vern was completely unprofessional, arrogant and pompus. He actualy deliberately and meliciously set out to tear them down. He actually taunted them and took pleasure in telling them he was glad he made them feel like crap. He has lost his own perspective. He should be fired.

Diana on July 19, 2010 at 5:56 am
      • i am so appalled at how these judges completely disrespected these designers that were so proud of what they did for the NYFD. i dont understand why they all have to be assholes all the time. Vern deserves to get punched in the face.

        aib3 on July 19, 2010 at 6:16 am
  5. I just replied to Tasteful that design ability may no longer be the shows focus. Out of the 4 previous seasons David B. is the only host to really hold a show. Some of the other winners had time slots I couldn't even find! With all the fits and stars the new producer may have felt that stirring up controversy was the only way of pulling in new viewers. I don't like it, in fact I HATE all the shows Mark Burnett produces, but they are poular, with the average viewer. I guess HGTV has gone for average.

CharlesD on July 16, 2010 at 6:12 pm
    • Yes, they are popular. But that popularity is going down. Reality TV is becoming a passed fad.

Maybe HGTV could create a game show now? Since those peaked already too?

billyjobobb on July 16, 2010 at 9:28 pm
  6. You know ? I was just wondering why Mark Burnett didn't just put all the designers in thongs and throw them in a boxing ring full of creamed corn

CharlesD on July 16, 2010 at 6:19 pm
    • Please let's not give them any ideas!

billyjobobb on July 16, 2010 at 9:28 pm
    • I agree. It would be hard to find a less talented group of designers. They all look like they are doing an 8th grade crafts project. Overall taste and skill level is very low. If this is the future of American design, I am very afraid.

Robert on July 19, 2010 at 6:48 am
  7. Years ago when I taught preschool, firefighters and their big truck came to school to show the children what they wear, what tools are carried on and in the firetruck, etc. However, these are adults dressed in firefighters' uniforms, and this has NOTHING to do with designing a welcome and comfortable space for the nation's finest. There is no dignity in this kind of presentation. Honor these community workers in adult fashion by doing what Carter O. did on one of his shows-returned to his hometown and wanted to update and redesign the fire house. It was a wonderful show, the firehouse got what it needed and every one acted like adults. It was not full of ridicuous drama, as I predict this week's show will be. PLEASE, Design Star, get on the same page as your viewers. We have watched DS for several years now, but the stuff we have seen lately is immature and a waste of air time.

Jodie on July 16, 2010 at 6:44 pm
  8. It is amazing how many people feel the same way about the show. I used to really want to watch and see how talented the potential stars were, but you might as well have the people on "Big Brother" in the contest.
I also agree , Candice, Geniveve, and Vern are great, but how can they see the ability of "a star" when they
continue to have them all try and work together. The finished product has no ones ownership, and is really a mish mash of mediocre designs. Where is the star quality that we have seen before, season one? The girl that David B.( whom I love) won over, was a real winner, where is she???? Of course last season's winner was a bust, too.

Lynn on July 16, 2010 at 7:22 pm
    • I'm waiting to see outright sabotage on the show. Maybe Emily should have walked over to Nina's squiggles and started painting over them? Then there could have been an all out brawl and we could have not only seen a girl fight, (which would have been awesome since your audience is mostly women and gay men) but maybe they could have thrown in alot paint and turned it into a "wrestling" thing?

billyjobobb on July 16, 2010 at 9:32 pm
    • This team stuff of girls and guys is a mess. In past episodes each show had different groupings of designers, not the guys against the girls. I hope it improves or this season will be a waste for me. Between the goofy design ideas of designing for runways outfits, flowers and musicical instruments to the way they eliminate the designer…it's really weird. How many times would you find a person who say "please design my bedroom after a clarinet or a daisey? It's just plan weird. Also the elimination this time is really odd. They all have to pack their bags each time their team losses and then come back and unpack ….What is that all about. I'm not feeling it this season…I hope it improves or it's channel switching for me.

jbrindley on July 18, 2010 at 10:13 pm
  9. I wonder where all those twitter people that are so happy with the show are at?…I guess they don't post messages here. :S

Mark on July 16, 2010 at 8:48 pm
  10. I was on vacation last week and was not able to see the show. However, I found that I did not miss a beat other than to not know who was eliminated. The same theme has been repeated over and over. I agree vehemently that the designers NEED to show their OWN designing talents. When I watch David, Candice, Geniveve, etc. they talk to the homeowner, look at the layout and THEN design for that particular scenario. How can we or the judges define the distinct design talent of each of the participants if it is always a combined effort. All one really accomplishes with this approach is to see who can browbeat the others to do as that one wants to do to and what direction that one wants to go. If leadership is what they are looking for then go for a couple of team shows, but then MOVE ON! When I watch HGTV, I want to see a particular designer and how they would take a particular room problem and make it over so that I can see how I can somehow change my design or colors in my house. I like the way they explain what they see as the problem and what the homeowner wants and what design they believe will improve the design and make the homeowner overjoyed. If I wanted someone to come in to design a room for me, I would not want a 'team' of designers to come in and each do their own thing. How perpostorous. Where does one get the trust?

Why can we not see that strength be developed in the contestants? I believe that this can be done very simply by reorganizing the production of the program. I am really, really disappointed this year!!!
