Sneak Peek: Episode 7
Tune in this Sunday at 10/9c for the next episode of Design Star! This week, the remaining five designers must create a picture-perfect kitchen for the Sears catalog.
Watch a sneak peek of Michael, Casey and Alex arguing over the flooring.

Can't wait to see the outcome of this argument.
I think Alex will cave to the pressure of the group.
I love your work Alex…. keep your head up man….. your the best…. i can hear your voice even if they cant…. Trina
MICHAEL IS A FAGGOT I FUCKING HATE MICHAEL HE IS A MOTHER FUCKING FAGGOT
i the same…. what i dont lie is that ever show they seem to not listen to Alex….. give Alex a chance……. he has talent but none onf the members wont allow his talent to show….
you can see which way they place it in the photo above before you watch the video…
Yea, you're right. Looks like Casey and Michael won that argument. Never noticed the picture above until you mentioned it. Great find.
I would like to know how the candidates were chosen. None of them seem to have anything that will make them the Design Star. No one has yet shown a WOW potential! Also David Bromstad should be a judge instead of Genevieve who is a pretty blah decorator herself. The Trump Tower apts. in Jersey also lack the "luxury" feel supposedly a signature of Trump buildings. The bathroom in the apt. is truly tacky with cheesy fixtures and layout. Really disappointed so far with anything that has been done.
I thought the same thing…The bathrooms didn't impress me, even before the designers started working on them…They were very generic looking, and didn't look high end at all…I can only imagine the outrageous prices they're charging.
I absolutely agree.
I am so not excited, I keep watching to see if I will finally like someone. It seems like no one is creative or talented?? Where did they get these people? And I hate the new set up. Why do we only see those up for elimination get to host…what is the point if they will be voted off? And what is with the "leaning in" conference. I hate that, they all look so uncomfortable
This whole show needs a complete overhaul. I really miss Clive Pearce, that each person would do their tv spot so we could root for the best TV design star. I think that is hillarious about the leaning in to discuss who they will vote off…can't the contestants hear what they are saying? LOL! One of groups for the Trump project had three people and the other had 4 so so of course one room is going to do more than the other. I do agree that the two people voted off should have gone, terrible design decisions. I am not a designer and I can figure out that you shouldn't put a tarp up as curtains….
It's sad but true, Genevieve (and I really like her) is not a great designer. Now Candice is absolutely awesome, if I ever win the lottery I will hire her to decorate my entire house. She is also a good judge because she can tell the contestants what they are doing wrong without all the nasty comments.
I agree. This seems to be the worst group ever. No originality, no sophistication, no moxy. Everyone seems to be focusing on not offending the judges, rather than daring to try something a little outrageous and unique. I'm 63 years old, and I should be the next Design Star, if this is the best they can do!!! I may be older, but I'm much more hip!

I really agree. I think this Season is TERRIBLE. None of the candidates seem "Design Star" quality but I really don't think that the challenges have brought out their individual talent. Even the hosts don't appear "real" anymore. I loved Design Star and Food Network Star but this year, you can tell that they're trying to do something "different" and it's not working!
Right on! Right on! This show has gone right down the tubes. HGTV needs a new inspiration. They're trying to make the judges act like Donald Trump (and nobody–including DT–should act like DT). And while the judges have tried to make themselves look so upscale, the contestants are the decorator equivalent of trailer trash. Where's the talent? Who in any episode has done anything interesting and original. I can't YAWN loudly enough.
Sharon G…I TOTALLY AGREE with you. I also wonder what was the vetting or selection procedure for this year's 'Design Star' contestants. I am so embarrassed for HGTV and the judges. I have watched HGTV for y-e-a-r-s…(so many that the logo is burned into my tv screen!). There is not one contestant that has the NATURAL talent to carry their own show. I think I'm going to try-out for next year's show…what the heck…If these contestants made it this far…maybe I truly have a shot!
Absolutely agree. I haven't seen any star quality this season. I can't believe they would grant any of them their own show. So far this season has been disappointing at best.
I totally agree! There is alot wrong with the show this season! The "designers" seem too interested
in producing "art" – are they just trying to copy David Bromstad? Well they're not even close. And what is up with the judges? They are trying to be "tough" – but they just come off boring. David Bromstad would be a wonderful judge. And wouldn't it be nice to have the judges give them pointers so the contestants can learn? Also there are too many team challenges – which makes for BAD design and too much drama. And on a super picky note: what is with Vern's tie? In the studio shots it is too loose – and he's judging other people on style?
I totallly agree. This season is the absolute worse yet!!!! I quit watching because I'm embarassed by the lack of talent. Also, there is no direction or theme. How can you give them a roof-top patio to design and ask them to incorporate musical instruments and no one comes up with a theme. I would have gone for a New Orleans patio garden. And there was no music playing in any design. I blame the judges a lot for a lack of creativity. Giving them one object each to build a room around doesn't show a team only individual ideas that aren't "cohevsive". No one makes a plan. None of the seasons even can compare to the David Bromstead season. I didn't miss an episode. I don't even care about watching the current Design Star…it's boring!!! These contestants have no talent or creativity and the judges challenges are stupid!!!
I have to agree this group has yet to show any talent. Who chose them? Where are the really artistic and talented people like David B, Candice O., Vern Y. and even that out in left field guy who won last year Antonio? At least they have the right to be called designers. This group is sorely lacking. And I think Genevieve G. has some good ideas and some very weird ones.
Alex had better start to speak up for what he believes in . He had a good idea about the rotation of the floor boards. Sometimes you have to put them at an angle to cover a distance and/ or give a deeper perspective. Doesn't Michael watch diy? I could not believe the trump disaster. I would give the judges the OK to dump them all and say…..Hay the quality we are searching for just was not there this season and therefore we do not choose to give the title of Design Star to any of you…Better luck next year. Or go back to the format of individual rooms instead of group projects …. We already witnessed that is a big bust. If they have any talent it gets over ruled by majority. And the whole projects suffers.
Take Nina for example. Thought too highly of herself and her abilities and if she had any talent we never saw it. She bullied her opinion on the group and that project suffered also.
I agree that this show is a "Hot Mess". Who thought of all these stupid inspirations. I want to see what the designers can do to real spaces, for real people. The overhaul of the show is not working. We need Clive Pierce back as host to liven it up. I think that having David as a judge is a great idea. I'm not sure if all the designers are untalented or if the challenges are terrible.
Really because Vern is really a blah blah designer yet he thinks his opinions should count. And John Gedding does curb appeal OUTSIDE!!! I love Genevieve's designs she seems to have the most experience. Not that I would personally hire any of them to do my house.
Even if they do wittle it down to the fashionable gay guy and the sweet charming mid western type girl it is NEVER going to be David and Alice keeping everyone on the edge of thier seats for the glass house challenge
I agree Charles! These people have nothing on David B and the woman who won before him and has the show Myles of Styles. They were true design stars. I am very disappointed
That was truly the best ever!
I COULDN'T AGREE MORE!!!! I just posted my disgust about this year's batch of bitchy and arrogant designers. I have NO INTEREST in watching a show hosted by some jerk "design star"!!!
Well, at least they brought back the glass house challenge! But in Times Square! I'm so excited! On the edge of my seat!
NOT……………
So, I'm guessing that if they do a next season, it will be "Sear's Design Star" or "Design Star. presented by Sears"?
Why exactly aren't they doing real people, with real challenges? Do they really think that every kitchen is a perfect 2 dimensional box?
I told myself that I would watch out the season and then delete it from my mind. Might not even make it that far?
Design Star really sucks this season!
I truly agree with you. This season really needs a complete remodel (pun intended). It is an ideal case for a dose of Color Splash!!!!!!!!!!
I completely agree. They keep doing group designs and you never get to really see what each designer can do. They are continually fighting to put a piece of their design into the space and you never really know who did what….you don't get a feel for each of the designers abilities and their take on design. Not a fan at all this season and if it is the same next season I will not watch it.
Oh my Emily and Courtland, what a combination. Watch out Courtland you are with another back biter. Emily has done nothing but complain with very little input on any of the designs. She should have been eliminated long ago. Well, I'm watching Sunday just to see how the teams work out…..I don't think we'll see much in design. This season is more about drama than design. HGTV I still say you need to let "We the Public" choose the designers. Or even better let the internet fan favorite be the next designer.
Knock your self out. I'm watching shark week. this show isn't that great or creative.
I hope there is some more intelligent designing this week. A lot of the designers have been designing like they are playing darts blindfolded and trying to get bullseyes, then coming up with lines of BS after they miss their targets. If you watch any of the flagship design shows, the designers are very logical and practical in working with the limitations of their clients spaces. Getting rid of the team challenges would probably solve most of the problems so far.
I have a hunch that Casey will be in the final two. I understand that in the final challenge, it will take place at Central Park- In the video, Casey is interviewed saying she would back up Michael before Alex. She is wearing a completely different outfit and is in a park like setting. This is a clue that she is in Central Park filming the final episode.
Courtland is hot!
BUT SOOOOO ARROGANT! I nearly fell to the floor when I realized he was STRAIGHT!!!! ummmm… OK
