Wow Emily are you a bit jealous of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader…a better looking blond with significantly more personality and design talent. Not only was Leslie's artwork in the room strong, she saved the day by getting the dinning room table and brought in a table that was fabulous…"one of the best things i have ever seen" i believe was Vern's quote. David B. loved her too. I imagine you are feeling the heat since the critics have panned you but your assesment was pretty weak.
I don't think jealousy is a problem…Emily already won. I thought the push-ups were weird too and a little show-offy. BUT, I did like Leslie. I decided she's just fun and quirky.
Yes she won, but that does not guarantee a show for ever…especially when the show is so weak…
i agree with sunny. emily has already won. and the cheerleader isn't better looking… and how can you tell she has more personality – we've only seen her in ONE episode. and "more" personality? sorry don't agree with you at all. yes she can design and yes she can shop and yes she made good artwork. she seems fun. but you can't tell everything about someone from seeing a few minutes of them in ONE episode.
emily, i think you brought an interesting perspective to the discussion… in real life you would hire someone to do things you can't do. it's about imagination and taking risks and breaking the rules of design (in good ways).
Wow you guys are blind if you do not think she is better looking…did you watch the show???
Why do you feel the need to just toss bombs out at people when they are only offering their opinion (which was asked for)? Take it easy. This is just about tv personalities, not a future life partner. OK?
To be honest, I fast forwarded the part where she did pushups because it was too uncomfortable to watch. Other than that, I really liked what she did in the room and I thought she was fun to watch. What I didn't like about her was that she didn't stand up to her partner getting snitty with her on the phone. I hope to see more of Leslie and less of her partner who I would have zero interest in watching for a full half hour on a tv show based on initial impressions.
I also have my doubts about Cathy. I question how she can take her reporter background & bring it to a design show.
Perhaps Emily should not make unkind comments about contestants, comment on their designs not who they are
EMILY IS ENTITLED TO HER OWN OPINION! GAAAA JUST BECAUSE SHE"S A HGTV STAR DOESN"T MEAN SHE CANT SAY WHAT SHE WANTS!
Ummm seriously? Push ups? are you trying to be a cheerleader again or a design star? That was insanely weird. Personally, I liked the tealight idea. Not sure why other people dont. And I don't think EMily is jealous of Leslie. I think she is a much better designer than Leslie.
Hey Emily! I agree with a lot of what you said – although I did like Val and Leslie's room but I see what you mean about not stretching too much – I think the right team won the competition and Blanche… although I liked her wall paper idea, the stuff she stapled onto the wall? gross.
Love your show Em. Yes, the right person went home and I kinda liked the big orange room except for the big RELAX sign, it didn't look well executed. Can't wait to see the white room challenge next week.
Emily. You are amazing. Your show is my absolute fav – even rank it above some of the seasoned folks. Luv YOUR way…a bit quirky, but very real. Love the diversity of your design and the change you make happen..one room two ways. As a designer, you present real issues: husbands and wives typically have different ideas, and it's our job to meld them and somehow make them both happy AND end up w/ a beautiful space. Kudos. Luv your perspective. Probably too early to judge for me…I'm going to give the cheerleader some grace; I"m a texas girl, x cheerleader so I'm going to wait and see. I like her spunk and the way she handled her "partner" who seemed really overbearing. Keep the episodes coming!
Emily, you are awesome!!! I love Design Star and you were my pick to win on your season. I'm also excited to see the white box challenge this season……it's my favorite!!!!
Love your show and your fun personality!!
Thanks guys so much. Listen, watching this is instinctual and instincts can absolutely be wrong. I hope i'm not jealous, but who knows. It's a long season, so i'm sure i'll be wrong a lot. Or right a lot, we'll see.
Jealous? No way. I totally agree with you. Cathy was overbearing and their room, as beautiful as it was, was SAFE!
No need to second-guess yourself, Emily — you have just as much right to an opinion as anyone who comments on this site, and I did not get the impression that jealousy was a factor in your comments. Plus you are viewing the rooms through a stylist's eyes, so you are looking for something that grabs your attention at first glance. While I liked the room Leslie and Cathy designed, it did not do this, and I can see why the judges preferred Kelly and Karl's bonus room. As for Bret and Kevin's bedroom, tangerine orange may not be for everyone, but I like it — I am a morning person who is always up before dawn, so I appreciate a room color that is as wide-awake as I am. Unfortunately, the room had an unfinished and not always well planned look — for example, the beds needed headboards and bedskirts, and as someone mentioned in a previous blog, the rug, which could have been an opportunity to add more fun color, was bland and blended into the wood floor color. I like the fact that you don't feel the need to agree with the judges' opinions — keep your comments coming!
Emily, thanks for your thoughts. Next time, though, could you talk to your sound guy–you're echoing here.
100% agreed with Emily in regards Cathy & Leslie. Let's see how both do in the next episode of #designstar
Emily is right on when it comes to Cathy & Leslie. The first episode was a little disappointing creatively for all the rooms for not having any real restrictions on shopping and had a painter and carpenter on hand.
I agree with Emily. Thanks for the insight. I love sitting on my couch and pretending that I know it all when I watch these shows. I love feeling justified when an expert shares my opinion. Ha ha! I do wish we had gotten to see more of Blanche before she was let go — even a bit of camera time before the judging. She seemed nice.
