  1. Mark and Doug's room was awful. It's hard to believe these 2 are designers. The floorplan was terrible and the color palette was unforgivable. If I was Mark, I would have repainted that accent (puke) wall when Doug was out shopping. Once painted, Doug may have realized he was wrong with his color choice. MAY HAVE…
    Whoa-a dog? No way! sad.

Vanessa on July 26, 2011 at 3:23 pm
    • Umm — I don't think David meant dog, but rather a canine by-product. I wish he hadn't said that, because I wasn't seeing it until now.

CplusE on July 27, 2011 at 7:21 am
    • Agree!!!!! I don't think Doug knows how to listen….I voted him off the design island ! Mark does have great style, but he has to play well with others, it's not his show yet.

Annie on July 27, 2011 at 8:55 pm
    • As a designer for over 30 years, it was not hard to pick up on the lack of team effort here, however, I think Mark has potential. His mistake was not being able to sell Doug his ideas. In real life you have to sell your ideas to your team mates and your client. So, this was a good learning curve for him for future design.

  2. I believe that the judges made the right choice to eliminate Doug from the competition. I absolutely loved his white box challenge room, but in Challenge 1 and Challenge 3 he had ongoing troubles. As for Mark, I think that if he can't redeem himself to the judges during Challenge 4, he should quickly get the boot.

Brian on July 26, 2011 at 3:36 pm
  3. Bret is very forgetable. I remember his ugly brown wall from Challenge 2, but not a thing from Challenge 1. He's done absouletly nothing to prove to the panel that he's a good designer, and it's fairly obvious he's not going to go on much farther. Another middle-runner designer is Meg. She did great things in Challenge 3, but her choice of salmon in Challenge 2 made me want to give her the boot right away. Neither of these 2 designers really shine in my eyes, and I highly doubt that either will win.

Brian on July 26, 2011 at 3:36 pm
    • Who is Bret? and Meg, my 3 yr old grand daughter can design better!

Annie on July 27, 2011 at 8:58 pm
      • I know that it's not a popularity contest, but it's hard for me to dislike Meg and Bret since they're so nice; I was happy to see Doug go since he was such a brat during episode 3.

Penny on July 28, 2011 at 7:48 pm
  4. There are a couple of designers who show tons of potential to be the winner. That Karl is a riot. I love his work, and he's so much fun! He's been a top runner in every challenge, and I see tons of potential in him. Another top runner is Kellie, another big-hearted competitor whose remained on the top. These 2 remain my favorite in the competition.

Brian on July 26, 2011 at 3:37 pm
    • I agree Brian. Karl and Kellie are the two best at this point.

Sue on July 26, 2011 at 4:20 pm
      • Karl may not be my favorite personality but, I plan to use two of his ideas in my own home. #1 the painters tape wall and #2 the mosaic back splash.

Cynthia on July 27, 2011 at 4:20 pm
        • i am going to try his mosaic as well, i totally agree that
          karl and
          kelly are my faves

kim on July 27, 2011 at 8:03 pm
    • It's funny b/c they were teamed up for the bonus room in the beginning. :) I guess true design talent can find other geniuses.

Emily on July 28, 2011 at 9:38 am
  5. Kevin and Leslie are both very good designers. I don't think either of them is up to the level that Karl and Kellie are at, but both have huge potential to get there. The only thing I think Leslie did in this round was make a mural, but hey, she's done wonders in the past, so I see why she's safe.

Tyler. Very forgetable. I have no idea who he is, his style, nothing. I think he might be good, but hey, what do I know? I find it very hard to see him as the winner, but I don't think he'll get eliminated for at least another challenge.

I am so mad with Cathy! Her attitude drives me insane. She's a good designer, not great, though. Unfortunently, I think she'll go somewhere in this competition, but it better not be to the finish line. I don't think she deserves to win.

Brian on July 26, 2011 at 3:37 pm
    • all I remember about Tyler are his scarves and the way he hyperventilates when David comes in the room! hahahaha

lorilea on July 27, 2011 at 10:55 pm
      • I hope you don't mind I have to give my opinion :) Everyone LOVED Tyler's white room, and the appraisers said the reason they chose Mark over Tyler was that Mark's camera challenge was the best. Everyone loved his dining room last week, too. He's MY pick for #1 and I've voted for him 10 times every day.

Penny on July 28, 2011 at 7:52 pm
    • Cathy is not pleasant to watch. I actually feel sorry for anyone who has to work with her. She is demanding, bossy and doesn't seem to be much good for anything but shopping and "accessories".
I always enjoy watching designers getting down and dirty with their makeovers.

Leslie has done some nice makeovers for business. I am doubtful she has anything to offer families.

I like Kellie, I hope she brings thing up a notch. I'm not sure shy, but Bret, Meg and Tyler seem to offer little. I like Mark's work, but he seems a little OCD on the one thing he does. Ignoring evertyhing else to make it happen. If I missed anyone, they are forgettable, since I have forgotten them.

maz on July 30, 2011 at 5:16 pm
      • You are so right about Cathy!!! I'm so tired of hearing about her "Global Perspective"!!! I don't like any of her designs and I think she is the next to go.

Mia on August 1, 2011 at 10:07 pm
    • I think that Cathy's attitude detracts from her talent. She seems to have difficulty working with others collaboratively . I believe that she would make it difficult for a production crew and other staffers to work satisfactorily with her. If she wins, then she will need a lot of training working in group settings, learning how to compromise, and learning how to effectively communicate.

Bette on July 31, 2011 at 1:12 pm
    • I agree, Cathy has to go, she is good at shopping but the worst when it a comes to actually doing anything. She continues to talk down to all the other contestants and does not work well with others. She needs to go

Bobbie on August 1, 2011 at 10:56 pm
    • I agree. Cathy is not a team player. That is her down fall. If she would work together with others, she might be able to do better. I am so over her.

Owanda on August 4, 2011 at 10:34 pm
  6. Cathy needs to go! She is all talk and no action. Last night she left her partners to shop, shop, shop and didn't even want to help paint. Really? And why was that table she bought a global perspective? Cathy should be the next person to NOT have her own show.

Sue on July 26, 2011 at 4:19 pm
    • Aren't you sick of hearing about her global perspective? Jesus Cathy, I can't wait till you get eliminated so you can take a nice long vacation!

WPalmer on July 26, 2011 at 4:29 pm
    • Sue, I can't agree with you more. Cathy is pushy, overbearing and definitely not a team player. She doesn't want to get her hands dirty but wants all the accolades and she comes across as very cold. I think other contestants are much more talented and viewable than her. She needs to go.

      snappscrappber23 on July 26, 2011 at 6:30 pm
      • Don't worry all the black designers will go.

Wade on July 26, 2011 at 7:26 pm
        • She doesn't need to go because she's black. She needs to go because she has too much attitude and too little talent.

          snappscrappber23 on July 26, 2011 at 8:23 pm
          • I agree! Why do we even have to go there? I'm sure she's a wonderful designer, but her attitude is overshadowing anything she does. Look how she treated David when he was trying to give her a few pointers. Was I imagining it, or did she seem to be cutting him off, like she didn't want to hear what David had to say? I know she has awards and all for her reporting ability, but she should be receptive to any constructive criticism.

Guest on July 26, 2011 at 10:17 pm
        • Wade:
Why are you even demeaning yourself by playing the race card? If she were white, she would be called a witch with a capital B insteac of just comments on her inappropriate behavior and attitude.

          cmt753 on July 26, 2011 at 11:58 pm
        • Come on Wade….It's not about color…..except for the color of organ meat wall. You either have it or you don't…You can be a great designer, but the camera says it all, it shows attitude, and Cathy is got that market cornered.

Annie on July 27, 2011 at 9:03 pm
    • I don't understand Cathy. She looks angry all the time. Insecurity? Also, I see no design potential either. She can pick nice decor and place it appropriately but originality – no.

ccjs on July 27, 2011 at 11:27 am
      • I am glad I am not the only one who finds Cathy as offensive with too much attitude and little talent

kim on July 27, 2011 at 8:07 pm
    • Hilarious and you're so right!

      A Dillard on July 27, 2011 at 8:14 pm
    • and when Mr Fabulous was coaching her on her video challenge, she just cut him off and flatly said "ok"! Boot to the head!

lorilea on July 27, 2011 at 10:53 pm
    • I think they brought Cathy on because they knew she would be abrasive.

lcmsocal on July 30, 2011 at 8:09 pm
    • I don't agree. This show is about design, putting it together for a TV audience, and working with other TV staffers and personalities. Cathy is talented and she may be able to learn how to handle the deficits of her strong and difficult personality.

Bette on July 31, 2011 at 1:15 pm
    • Bye Cathy Bye —Be gone…………………………………………

rsb on July 31, 2011 at 2:04 pm
  7. I think Mark is getting a raw deal. He was a bit stubborn at first, but he really tried to work at the end of the day. That said………David Bromstad has turned into a complete Jolly Rancher. He reminds of a Gap employee asking if I'd like a pair of socks with my purchase. I'm really rooting for Kellie and Leslie this season because, along with their talent, they have a really genuine kindness and realness about them. David seems really plastic and phony now.

WPalmer on July 26, 2011 at 4:28 pm
    • Totally agree about David. His personality is so over-the-top. I really hate his show. I'm an HGTV addict but when Color Splash comes on, I turn the channel. I haven't learned to like the Novogratz duo yet, either.

Guest on July 26, 2011 at 9:49 pm
      • Novogratz is pretty good. Courtney is brilliant. The husband comes across as a bit of a buffoon, but he's tolerable. At least they are not cookie cutter mall employees.

WPalmer on July 27, 2011 at 9:30 am
      • He's simply a walking cliche. Calling something a "Hot Mess" is so trite.

WPalmer on July 27, 2011 at 9:31 am
    • I disagree with what you said about David, however your comments totally cracked me up.

Penny on July 28, 2011 at 7:57 pm
  8. Why didn't David criticize Cathy, whose "design contribution" was buying a table?

erikcreature on July 26, 2011 at 4:31 pm
    • I agree…..Bored with the Diva attitude and world traveler references….
Roll up your sleeves and get to work like the rest of the designers :S

Pat on July 26, 2011 at 5:23 pm
  9. I agree that Mark got a raw deal. He did attempt to try to work with Doug but Doug was impossible to deal with. Mark has done a lot of good work up to last night's challenge and the work he did do with the wood was great! He also tried to arrange some of the furniture differently and Doug put it back so what was the point? Good-bye Doug!

Sue on July 26, 2011 at 4:39 pm
    • I totally agree, they were much too hard on Mark. Having him as one of the two at the end, for what? Try to work things out with his partner??? Making many suggestions to change things, I thought he was great!

lcmsocal on July 30, 2011 at 8:13 pm
  10. I think they are all good designers but Cathy has TV experience and her own design gig so why is she even on there, not a very good people's person to work with either. Doug and Mark were not agreeing on things that they should have and if you could see the tension I'm sure the Judges did too. I think Doug is a very great designer and he was never in the Eliminating room until last night, and how many other times were some of the other designers in that room and received chances?????? But there still going to be one winner and we maybe in for a surprise !
