cathy may be good at on camera stuff, but she does not seem sincere and I really question her design IQ. would NOT watch her show.
I 100% agree with you regarding Cathy! I would not watch a show with her in it either, I can barely stand watching her now. Her 'professionalism' and expertise is totaly over-bearing. It is not ok to steam roll everyone you work with either! If shes so great then she can continue working in a design firm somewhere…. somewhere we dont have to watch.

Will enjoy THIS show much more when Cathy is gone. Would not waste my time watching her show. She should take her Emmys and go home. Her rude behavior and superior attitude are enjoyable to watch. Please, please send her packing.

Christine, to me; an HGTV show, I look for tasteful, friendly people to host the shows. She does not fit that bill so how did her votes get so high? lmao. I think I know. But who am I? I am sure just some lowly idiot out here. I would love to challenge her. I can take a specific request and actually listen. lol
Honestly, l Not an accredited person, just a real, honest, service minded, artistic, designer at home and proud of it! As a matter of fact I bet I can create a team out here online to put her back in her place in life as , no better than anyone else!

I am with you, she is very mean, determined to take credit for everything by rushing into every decision to spite her own judgement.
If I were to design a space, it is based on the CRITERIA. If it means working with others, you must pick and choose your elements and task. Stop acting as if you are in in charge! I see a person that is thinking the world owes her something. Thanks goodness I owe this one NOTHING. I would never get what I want from her as a designer. TOO BOSSY.
I can say, I thought about being on this show… she is getting by too much. WHY? DO WE OWE HER such longevity, she is creating agrevation in everyone that sits with me through my show.
The Kitchen challenge was cluttered! I know her partner is trying to get along on this one and you could see he hated alot of her choices. Most do try to talk with her and she pretends she hears nothing. How would she treat clients.

What is the underlying agenda with Cathy and her remaining on the program? She does not get along with anyone and her design style has been very boring and with no artistic appeal. Who would watch

I could NEVER watch a show that Kathy was on. Her eyes bug and when she smiles, OMG, horse teeth gone wild. She also seems very controlling and a know it all. She has had issues with every person she was paired with. She does not fit the HGTV style
Exactly. IF (and thats a big IF) Cathy won a TV Show, who would watch it? All we've learned about her is that she has a nasty personality. Instead of a TV Show, I think she needs a good psychotherapy referral.

I totally agree. Cathy is a bitch, it's her way or no way. I would hate to have her be my designer. Why is it every person she has ever been matched up with she gets into a tiff with them. She needs to GO and the sooner the better.
Cathy is the Amarosa of Design Star and I am frankly disgusted that HGTV would stoop to the level of Trump – really disappointing. I TOTALLY DISLIKE her – she is a bully and cannot hear her teammates and she is totally unaware of her shortcomings. I don't know who I am disappointed with more, Cathy or HGTV for keeping her on as an Amarosa factor.
To Bettye and everyone before her – TOTAL AGREEMENT – I cannot wait for Cathy to be booted off the show – I only hope the judges and people who get to vote, see the light or I will totally lose respect for the show. Talented designer or not – if you are not a people person – what are you doing in design? One has to wonder how she treats people who pay her for her arrogance, egotism and bad attitude. Collaberation in design is a key and she has turned on everyone she works with and steamrolls right over them. It would be a miracle if anyone she works with did well considering her take over style. Get rid of her HGTV, she is not good for the show.

I agree- and she has not shown any ability for any craftmanship- she justs moves things around for display. I have not seen one wow factor in design IQ

I agree I would not watch a show by Cathy! She is not a team player and it seems she has to have everything her way or no way at all and always throwing other designers under the bus very unprofessional! Doesn't seem she would never be able to work with a team if she had her on show .

I agree, she is totally out for Kathy and tries to stomp all over everyone else. I can't help but scream bitch at the TV every time she opens her mouth. And, she thinks she is a great designer, but I sure don't see it. God bless her clients.
I totally agree. I would most definitely not watch her show. I don't think she has any taste. If she stages for a living, I want to know how many people ask for refunds? That kitchen was cluttered and unusable. I hated it.

I echo all of these sentiments voiced in regards to Cathy. I think the judges (and producer) see her tantrums for there entertainment value to the show. It's giving each episode some interesting tension.
I don't understand why the judges don't get rid of her. They surely can see the conflict she is causing. Besides I think her designs are awful. At the very beginning of the very first show she made sure everyone knew she had "credentials." I was ready to kick her off immediately. I would never watch her show. I think they are keeping her around to cause controversy. They must think it helps the show. NOT!!!
I agree, I am really tired of watching Cathy run over everyone she comes in contact with. I would love to see someone stand up to her. I would never watch her show either.
One more thing about Cathy! She doesn't work well with others, is not open to suggestions and new ideas.
I agree with your comment, Cathy does not work well with others, she thinks that she knows everything. You can learn different things if you are open, however Cathy is not open to learn as she knows everything. I cannot stand watching her as she is so closed to learning about other designers thoughts. After watching her work with several different designers she always has the same thoughts. You need to get rid of her instead of the others and watch the magic that will happen.
i totally agree as well. of course she aced her camera challenge; but is that all it takes to be a designer. she is god awful to work with; is never open to any ideas by anyone; it's her way or the highway and the judges hated her design but yet they keep her and give her another opportunity to make another person miserable. look at the previews for next week, she's arguing with everyone b/c she wants things her way and not open to any ideas. Get her out of there.

And her comment to Karl in front of the judges that "This is the first I'm hearing" that Karl had issues with her staging: BULLSHIT. Several times he tried to suggest she move or remove something, and every time she "shoo'ed" him away and kept telling him, "I have this — trust me."
It was obvious that the judges thought her staging was over the top YET they went so easy on her. Why is it they have not problem with lecturing/scolding other designers when they go wrong, but not her? I am starting to seriously think she has an "in" with someone on the network.

That is exactly how I feel, would never watch her show, do NOT like her attitude toward others, do not feel she would listen to her clients, she certainly does not work well with her co-workers. She only is better at the camera challenges because she has experience over the others. Will be glad to see her go.

I agree. Sheis the kind of designer who would come in, tell you ITS MY WAY ONLY, disregard any input as to your needs and then EXPECT THUNDEROUS applause. I WOULD NOT let her in my house to do anthing. She is so phoney. If things go wrong it is always the other guys fault.
I feel so sorry for the contestants who unfortunately get paired with Cathy. For example, even if Carl would have insisted that their kitchen styling needed some editing, Cathy would have argued that she is a PROFESSIONAL Stager and she therefore ?knows? how to stage a room. It would have been a waste of time for Carl to suggest changing anything Cathy had done. The same is true with everyone she "works" with. I can't wait for her to go home. Could you imagine if she did get her own show . . . the Producer would never get her to rethink her design choices no matter what the obsticles, time lines, money, weather, etc.
It seems as though HGTV is determined to promote Cathy Hobbs regardless of how weak she performs challenge after challenge. Tyler may have lost this challenge but other contestants such as Kevin and Cathy have been more consistant in their poor judgement and execution. This used to be my favorite program of all. Now it seems fixed and I question the validity of the judgements and wonder if it is still worth watching.
I wonder how much of this is ratings related… keep Cathy on because it makes for "good" dramatic television. I've got to say – it's definitely turning me off to the show right now.
I was disappointed that Tyler was sent home. I thought he did well on the other shows. I thought Kevin would be going home. His work was tacky this week. Cathy is rude and she does not get on well with her fellow designers. She has an issue with her co-designer each week.

I agree. Cathy is too push and self-important. I would not watch a show with her in it. I actually get a very negative physical reaction when watching her as I don't think she treats others with dignity. I'm not liking Kevin so much either. The judges seem to think the other conetestants need to keep them in line and when they try to challenge these too they come up looking bad. The others are more team players. I think Tyler had great style. To me the only thing against him was that he reminded me of David too much and we only need one David. Tyler was sweet, stylish and professional and I hope he does not let this affect his ability to bloom and grow with his own unique and tasteful style.
i really don't think cathy is sincere on camera. she says the right stuff but i don't want to listen to her. she is a control freak, argumentative and had problems working with every person she has been paired with.

During her camera challenges she always has this smiley face and demeanor that comes off as insincere. Even if we were'nt seeing her true colors behind the scenes, I still think I'd sense it…
The person who has to work with her always gets the raw end of the deal, and it seems that unfortunate person gets the boot. At least this week Carl wasn't sent home.
I was an avid Design Star watcher. Now not so much. Cathy has got to go. She is arrogant, assertive and not someone who I would watch host her own show. Nor is she a team player and I imagine you would have to be able to work well with others when you have a show. The camera & sound engineers, make-up, hair and clothing artist, assistants plus many others all are needed to put a show together and if it wasn't her way it would be the highway. She needs to go NOW! Not only does she not pull her weight she only 'styles' and not in a good way. There is more than just having camera experience. Please send her home
I absaolutely agree. I think Cathy is boring, and she doesn't style she overstyles. Her designs look like department store knockoffs. She overpowers the other contestants. Maybe Candance, Vern, or Genevieve could handle her, but not people trying to get picked who are in a unusually stressful situation. Please when are we going to see the last of Cathy. I think she is overpolished and unnatural in her camera presentations, and I would not watch her shows, whether online or on the network

Have no fear—Cathy will be eliminated in her own time. She has ONLY shown a antagonistic personality from the get-go. Remember how she asked if people were trained designers in the frirst 15 mins of the first episode? I think she has SOME design ability but NO WAY will they give that woman a show. Having exposed THAT personality throughout these episodes, who the hell would watch her???? HGTV understands that, I'm sure. She's gonna explode…she can't handle the collegial aspect of this challange.

She is not a team player and she is always blowing her horn and cannot keep from reminding everyone that she has had her own show (not on anything that I've ever seen !) She definitely needs to go!Leslie consistly shows improvement and Karl is a sweetie with lots of skills which Cathy with her overbearing ways and insisting that she will "do the shopping" and each and everyone of her partners has been relegated to doing the "grunt work" i.e. painting etc.PLEASE PLEASE make her go away , she is obnoxious and it is not necessary to be P.C. because of her race!

If I had money enough to hire a designer, I'd hire Cathy just so I could fire her. Then I'd hire Karl or Meg and get something spectacular and know that I would have a great designer, who would be kind and respectful!

Yep she won because she was point on. She is not a bad looking lady. THE REFERENCES TO ANIMALS AND BLACK PEOPLE IS NOT APPRECIATED YOU ARE WALKING A THIN LINE.You should take a look at yourself.. no one is perfect on the show, two designer are over weight, gay designers, black designers, Kellie is like four feet and balls like a baby when she does not nail her challenges . Its all good with me. No one followed the plan.. they just said "cabinets to go?" aww yah and threw in a few nick naks is that design? But if someone called the over weight designers on the show the "two little pigs" you would not be so happy. Where were the window treatments? ?Mini blinds? Give me a break!!!
I agree it is not cool to make cracks about how a person looks, or about their race or personal life. I was irritated last week by the poster who had a fit that Leslie said the word "wife", and I wouldn't think it was cool if someone said something mean about Kevin or Meg's weight. HOWEVER, Kathy is unpleasant due to her demeanor, how she treats others, and that superior attitude that she somehow has been deluded into thinking she deserves. No name calling, just honest opinion based on what she has presented so far.

Babs, Gotta ask? Would you hire a designer who comes to your door looking like Meg? Or Kelly for that matter. It's not that Meg is FAT, it is she doesn't know how to STYLE HERSELF! Paula Deen is not a toothpick but look at her! She looks TERRIFIC! And don't tell me it is because they were working. You can still be stylish when you work in Design. I think of all of the designers Leslie is the only one who seems to understand appearance counts!
Yes, I agree. It's bad form to make fun of anyone this way. But honestly, IN A MILLION and A THOUSAND YEARS to INFINITY, it wouldn't matter to me if the person was PURPLE (white or whatever) really. You know, for someone who is fiercely defending Cathy, which I truly respect, don't you understand the metaphor? Honey is sweet. It means showing less attitude get more people to like you. Cathy is harsh to everyone. If she can dish it out then she better be able to take what's dished right back at her. I think there are several posts where people have amply outlined her mediocre design abilty. If you want to defend her so much, why don't you shower her with compiments about her design abilities instead of asking other people to post? Well, if you like watching fake, mannequin-like "personalities" that you can see on any dime-a-dozen TV weather forecasts or home shopping networks, then I guess she's "point on". She is slick and smooth, I'll give you that. But she's not genuine or likable, and doesn't embody in the least the sincerity we see in the most successful HGTV hosts. The best HGTV hosts, like David Bromstad and Candice Olson, are compelling precisely because their real personalities shine forth, and they don't come across as colorless "professional" broadcasters or smooth operators. On to Cathy's design style: her so-called styling looked like a cluttered layout from a Harry and David catalogue. But, yes, let's keep our criticisms to her on-camera moments and her designs, and leave out the uncalled-for physical caricatures.
Ann, I totally agree. "WHAT's for DINNER?" Did the Judges look at what she actually bought? Giant Roots – someone tell me what they are PLEASE!, paired with whole zucchini, cherry tomatos and oranges, some hoagie sour dough? rolls, and warm eggs and banannas along the sink. IT WAS HORRIBLE. As I watched her segment, I kept thinking to myself -Guess this is a NIGHT to order something to be DELIVERED! Who needs a kitchen like THAT? I still want to know what "CONTEMPORARY" house doesn't know to PUT EGGS in the REFRIGERATOR! Isn't that one of the MAIN REASONS to BUY a REFRIGERATOR???
Well, I know the health department inspector or any half way intelligent cook would have thrown the eggs out as a minimum and no cook who uses a kitchen would have all that crap all over the counters. What was she "designing" for a magazine shoot?

Wow, you amd me think alike. Ever since the second challenge, I could not stand the way she acts and works with others. It always seems that it is "CATHY'S DESIGN" and the rest of the team labors. She always wants to go shopping instead of doing her bit in the design. The kitchen to me was a hurricane. I have done some kitchens in my life time and I was wondering, where is my counter top works space when she got done. The fight at the end was all true for Karl, and Cathy gets like a bull and will not budge. I just wish that the judges could also judge by what the camera crews see as well, but they can't. Judging from all of the remarks about her on this blog, everyone feels the same way. Kathy should be sent off to continue her world travels by herself. Seems like she only person she gets along with is herself.'
Cathy is such a pain! Her camera challenge was okay but I didn't think it was the best. Her 'styling' in the kitchen was terrible! It was overcrowded with everything in the world on the counters and none of it really went together. Very poor execution. And poor Karl having to work with her. I wish they'd do more individual challenges so we could really see what each person is capable of doing.
High-5! I love Karl and felt so bad for him working with Miss Know-it-All. No way will anybody watch her show if she wins. I'm just glad he didn't get sent home b/c of her.

The judges said he did it fine. He just used the wrong color paint. I think his mistake was second guessing the paint color they chose. He switched up his game plan last minute because everyone was doing a green kitchen wall. But at the end of the day, that shouldn't matter. If you are a good designer and are confident that the style you are bringing is unique, then do your best to bang it out and bring your A game – don't just change things out of fear that you are using similar colors as your competition. Afterall, there are but only so many variation you can do with color anyway. There's bound to be overlap. What makes it unique is your interpretation of the color – and the last minute decision of batik'ing in that color did not work.

So if this was the reasoning and others enjoy his kitchen work, can somebody explain the reasoning for sending him home relative to the others like Cathy and Kevin…It can't be about overall design, can it? Is it about a bad TV add…If its the latter, should the show be entitled 'Salesperson for HGTV' and not 'Design Star'…Confused with judging criteria…
I loved Tyler. I definitely thought he had some good ideas and I very upset he was sent home. Cathy is the one not not not worth watching.

Cathy is very annoying in her attitude. I don't believe that she will be a good representative for HGTV. I can assure you that I would not watch her. She is very overbearing and overdecorates.
Please ask David to reconsider the picture of hin in the plad shirt. His head looks elongated and he looks dorky ….. which he definitely is NOT. We need another David Bromstad type of person as the next Design Star.
