Emily: WORD. agree with everything you said. Kevin's kitschy uber-personality has grown so tiresome. and he's a single note "designer." sooo tired of hearing Vern claim designers should "fight" for their p.o.v. Everyone thinks they're making good choices, so where would the back and forth stop with that approach? it's the judges job to decide who is making poor choices, not their fellow contestants. do your job Vern. Tyler, my sympathies, you did not have that coming. epic wrongness was did unto you friend. this show lost all credibility when it let you go and kept Cathy and Kevin.
I agree with Emily as well. Tyler's bench may not have been completely successful, but it pushed the envelope a bit and if it had been slightly larger, it would have worked better. I keep expecting Kevin to come up with something spectacular but except for his brown paper wall–not so much. I don't know how long it is going to take the judges to get the fact that no one can work with Cathy. She is always right even when she is wrong. Karl did try to stand up for himself but just like everyone else who has worked with her, she steam rolled over him. She did it to Kevin who is no shrinking violet. I want her so much to go home. She may be good on camera but her designs are pedestrian at best.
Can anyone say Omarosa? I feel like I'm watching her as an interior designer. Didn't her Mother ever tell her to play nice with the other kids on the block?
Yes Kevin should've left but NASTY Cathy needs to go away! I would never watch a show with her as the host!
I agree with chicago. This season's commentaries are vague and inconsistent. They praise a designer one minute for a questionable move then blame another designer the next for the same "move." Many people watch the show to learn a bit about design. This season is not very useful in that area. The judges also might address the desperate need of clients to have a designer who can listen! Cathy is the most obnoxious, arrogant, egotist on the show. Why would anyone consult her about design? Baffling how she remains on the show unless the network wants to see her bludgeon her colleagues with her ego. Disappointing!
can you say SICK of CATHY!!! omg everytime she opens her mouth and begins to spew her "vast" knowledge I am turned off. Not the kind of thing i want to watch on a weekly basis.. In fact never would I watch her and YOU GO Karl … let her hang herself…
Tyler should still be there. Do the judges watch any of the episodes?? makes you wonder.
I really do not know if I can even continue watching the series if they do not send Miss One Woman show Cathy go home. For 5 episodes now she has proven one thing and that is she cannot work within a team concept so why continue keeping her on just because she might be a good shopper.
Hey, if that is all you want to do then you eventually you should be good at it — many of us are good shoppers. If one cannot work with people how could they ever have a TV show. She would change carpenters every week. No–let's bring back Tyler and let the correct one go.

Kevin is entirely too repititive!!! Kitschy is one thing but nothing but kitschy becomes tiresome! Read a great comparison in an earlier blog, Cathy is an HGTV version of Omarosa! She consistently refuses to listen to her tyeammates and leaves them hanging out to dry when it comes judging time. Her ideas are pedantic and just don't work, when she does have an idea… Karl could have worked wonders in that kitchen if she would have let him do his part. She may be a good shopper, but that does not translate to a good designer. As a design student, I feel she represents all the things one can do wrong when working with a team, such as not working with them at all! These activities are called team challenges for a reason Cathy, you are supposed to work as a team not as a straw boss!
Thank God Cathy is gone!!!!! So annoying and too aggressive, not to mention the constant rolling of the eyes. I would NEVER watch her on TV. That kitchen counter top was a cluttered mess.
I agree Emily! The right person did not go home. Tyler has been consistently good and unique. I liked his idea for the wall. it just didn't show well with those colors. He is also humble and interesting to watch. I was shocked to see him go! I can understand why he was emotional. It should not have been him.
While I'm on a roll here…I don't think Cathy should have won the video challenge. Come on she has a past career in delivering news. Several others did really well in the video challenge, they should have won it.
I think the judges messed up this time! They need a better system of determining who goes home. Hey I'll create it for them! LOL
the judges did not messed up this time they did it in purpose .. they knew tyler has talents and yet they let him go why ? they don't like those who have real talents they're afraid to be outsmarted or lose they're job someday as simple as that ! deep within they know Tyler is smarter than they are ..to keep their job they let those talentless to stay ..with cathy and kevin they're safe .. don't be surprise if mark and karl will go next .. I did not even finished watching it last night why should I stay this is the end no more HGTV for me ..we can give them the message that they're all sucks by not watching this show anymore .. our comments are useless the more we tell the bad things about cathy the longer she stays or will even win this contest sad to say but it's true it's a cruel world in there
I agree with Emily's comments about Cathy. Karl did try to get her to change the staging, and with all working with so little time he relented and let her have her way. And having said that, Cathy jumps in to say "it's the first I've heard of that" wanting Karl to share ownership for her clutter. Cathy has been stubborn and uncooperative with everyone she's worked with; bullheaded really. While I see her talent at times, I will not be a viewer of her show if she wins. I think Tyler should have stayed as well.
yah if I could create a system, id make Cathy "mysteriously disapear" and the only way to find her would be for every time she did something id like id give a clue.*laughs to self* theyd have NO chance of finding her!!!
I definitely think the wrong person was sent home. Tyler has been consistent in his challenges. Kathy, on the other hand made a sloppy mess of her design and besides that had the nerve to argue in front of the judges. What is up with that? She is a know-it-all and I can't wait for her to get the boot.
I guess my biggest irritant this season is Cathy. She does not work & play well with others. I would not watch a show starring Cathy. Yes, she is slick on the camera shots, but I find myself distracted by the popping of the eyes habit. As far as designs go, I can tell she is a professional stager, with less an eye for creativity and more for "perfectness." Emily, she needs to watch your spot where you talk about everything being PERFECT. Ha!

I 100% agree with you regarding Cathy! I would not watch a show with her in it either, I can barely stand watching her now. Her professionalism is totaly over-bearing. It is not ok to steam roll everyone you work with!
I absolutely agree. If she were on HGTV I would turn the TV off. She may be good on camera but she has yet to show a great design and she's so NASTY to everyone around her. She really has to go. Would anyone really watch her? I think not.
Oh, I can't agree with you more. Every time Cathy works with another designer, they end up clashing. Cathy has a professional presentation on camera but she's a bitch with others. I'm tired of her constantly reminding us that she already has her own business. I wonder about the frequency of ther staff turnover. I'm guessing she works alone. They eye popping habit is distracting. Send her home!!!

I agree I definitely I'm not a fan of Cathy.. she definitley is not a team player and how does she expect to have her own show is she is so bossy..I would not watch her show!!!

She needs to spend some of the money she makes from her business and get some quality dental work done. I keep expecting her to neigh and chew on carrots or hay.
Cathy might be a staging professional, but that kitchen she staged looked like a grocery store threw up in it! All of the judges commented on that, yet she is still on the show.
I would not have Cathy stage any room in my house, even if I won her services in a raffle.

I would never watch a show with Cathy, I dont agree with any of her design choices thus far. Remember the crown molding haha! She was definitely on the debate team in highschool.. the women can never be wrong.
I agree 100% about Cathy being just plain rude to be walking all over the others in order to get herself ahead. I think the judges need to look more at the fact that she has in every episode so far, not played well with anyone. I see the judges coddling her and it is taking my constant interest in HGTV and diminishing it.
I completely agree about Cathy. She has a bad attitude and is an inferior designer who has no wow factor in anything she does. Being good on TV doesn't make you a good designer! Next year I wish they would get rid of Vern as a Judge. he is so out of what is happening! Don't the Judges look at how people work as a team? PLEASE get rid of Cathy!!!!!
COULDN'T AGREE MORE. CATHY IS A GIANT TURN OFF. EVERY OTHER CONTESTANT MUST DREAD BEING PAIRED WITH HER.
Cathy is a turn off,but I,m just wondering the reason why she,s still on the show? Is she a TOOL for the other to see how well THEY deal with Cathy,s behavier.I wonder?
I agree Rhonda. Cathy irritates me and I would NOT watch her show. She is too perfect and I feel she thinks she is better than everyone else.
I also agree with you Rhonda and with the comments from others. Cathy is a conceited so and so. Staging does not make one a designer. I would not watch her show and if she moves on after next week, I will stop watching HGTV! Tyler was robbed. Yes his color choice was wrong and contrast was needed, but he at least tried something new and different. I would love to have him batik one of my walls any time. Best of luck to you Tyler.
Wow, I guess I"m not alone in my disregard for Cathy. She sure "knows it all" or thinks she does. I pity the partners she's had in EVERY challenge. She just steamrolls over them and then professes ignorance to their objections! What a liar! I've not screamed at the TV this much in a long time. If they let her stay in any longer I will be fast-forwarding through all her spots and will refuse to watch any show she stars in if the unforgiveable happens and she somehow wins this thing.
I also agree with the fact that Cathy is the one to go home because of how she treats others.
I would never ever watch her show.
I hope Karl wins the guys has been with cathy for 2 shows anf has not kicked her butt.

I totally agree with you about Cathy. I feel very irritated by her after watching episodes over and over where she runs over her fellow designers. There is no compromising with her and frankly I am irritated with the judges for not dealing with her on her attitude. I certainly would never want to work with her. It seems the judges blame the co-designer for allowing her to take over when they should be holding her accountable for her nasty, do it all my way attitude.
I totally agree with Rhonda. Why can't the judges see that she cannot work well with other people. It seems that each time there is conflict involving Cathy, the judges criticize the desingner working with her. Cathy ihas such a strong, stubborn personality that about the only thing a designer tasked to with with her can do is give in to her in the interest of getting something accomplished. She has got to go! I won't watch a show hosted by her if she wins. Oh horrors! Surely that won't happen.
I agree with you also 100%. Cathy is a control freak! If she wins this I will never watch her show. Her attitude will hopefully be her demise.
I just turned on Design Star and 13 minutes into the program I became so aggrevated by Cathy that I had to put it on pause and come here to vent(which I have never done before)…..please get her off this show before she ruins it entirely!!!! If she were to win this competition I would throw up my hands and stop watching HGTV entirely….she is the most irritating person…..she doesn't need a show…….she could just play back all the shots of her blowing her own horn!!!!(she obviously is a legend in her own mind, she needs to prove it instead of talking about it!)
Thank you Emily! Someone affiliated with HGTV sees this contest program as the viewers do! Tyler is truely talented and unfortunately was crucified for his one weak moment. Kevin has been less consisitant and Cathy continues to sneak under the radar by using her team mates.This challange she also shows herself to be a liar, claiming Karl didn't speak up about her styling mess. Maybe T.V. execs like her because she is a manipulative player, the cliche back stabbing diva.
yes we have to thank Emily and we're all gald that someone in there feels for us ,,the judges and the producer is about time they have to get the message unless they're enjoying all the disappointment their viewers are having ..well not for me coz I stopped watching it
I agree about Cathy. She is on my last nerve, has little talent, and absolutely lied about not knowing that Karl disagreed with her "styling." She need to GO.

I cannot believe that Cathy is still on…let alone that she shows up in the #2 spot in the voting, for favorite…She is down right mean…she would drive me crazy…BOSSY>BOSSY>BOSSY…She needs to be put in her place..;) OUT THE DOOR! I would not watch her show..;/ send her home and bring Tyler back..;)
I agree Emily. Kevin has been at the bottom twice……I think Tyler has great ideas and should have been given one more chance to show them. Kevin's ideas and execution of those ideas have been immature and lacking in common sense. I liked the stools for the island, but should have had a different seat for the desk area.
I also said on my post on the "round up" page, that Cathy was a professional on camera and I think that Mark or Kellie should have won that particular challenge. The way Mark incorporated having guests coming over and putting on the apron, was really a great improv.
I too believe the judges missed it big on this one. Even on David's blog, he felt Karl's overshadowing by Cathy and didn't like it. They are ignoring the fact that Cathy throws people under the bus at every judgement portion. The other contestants can't ALL BE WRONG.
of course the other contestants especially the real talented ones can all go wrong except cathy ..you see they love talentless people like them .. Tyler has real talents so he has to go or else they're job is endangered
Agree. I would like to add that Cathy's on camera persona comes off superficial. I get very irritated when I watch her, especially when she interacts with others. Her team work skills are lacking to say the least. Perhaps her design ideas would improve if she listened to the many partners who have tried to participate in the team challeneges. I agree with you regarding the hands off approach. Everything else has been tried by the contestants. Perhaps the judges should think about saying something? I won't further get into the many criticisms I have about her interaction style other than to say her on-camera "skills" out weigh her design talents. I WOULD NOT EVER watch her on TV.
I so agree with you about Cathy – she is severely lacking in interpersonal skills – she simply does not know how to speak to others – and because she has stage homes does not make her an authority on all ideas. I find her insulting and I would not watch her show. Tyler did look outside the box and while the bench was off in terms of scale – it was a brace idea. And, Kevin needs a chill pill. I wish we could hear more of the discussion that goes into the judges elimination decisions – what we get appears to be – at times – a bit superficial.Although the decison to let J and Doug go were indeed on point in my opinion.

Absolutely agree Emily, but for one thing….I cannot STAND Cathy and I think she should have gone home. I'm not sure why Tyler was railroaded like that…did I like the bench? No..but, it was a very bold piece and it was interesting. I'm not a big fan of Kevin's either, but I can tolerate him much more than Cathy. I know that, if by some horrid chance Cathy does win, you could not pay me to watch a show where she is the star. As a designer, you have to be willing to colaborate and delegate, and she has already proven that she is too controlling to do that. She is not likable, she is not genuine, she's not open or honest, she doesn't appear to have any morals as she had no qualms whatsoever blatantly lying to the judges in last night's show….she comes across as an smarmy attorney or the stereotypical used car sales person. Ready for her to go.
I absolutely agree. Tyler should not have missed his opportunity to win his own show. Likability needs to play a more important role in the selections. Cathy is not likable. I wouldn't trust her, especially if my life depended on it. Her "staging" wasn't even good. She went waaaay overboard with the decore pieces – looked like she just unloaded her groceries bags. It seems, so far, that NO ONE can get along with her. Can't wait until next Monday.
I too agree – personality should have a much bigger role in the outcome. Can't believe Cathy won at all after seeing her disaster and the way she wouldn't own up to her controlling behavior. If she continues on the show, I'll be finding something else to look forward to rather than watching HGTV.
You hit the nail on the head!! Smarmy is a great description for her! When her face is on TV I have to look the other way because I CAN'T stand looking at her eyes bug out (has she been checked for hyperthyroidism?) Kevin is riding a fine line and better shape up or he's out. But PLEASE get rid of Cathy…

I agree i WOULD NOT WATCH A SHOW THAT CATHY WAS IN. She is egotistical, rude and just not nice. I don't think Tyler should have went home. Send that pain in the rear Cathy home before she ruins it for some one else.

I agree with Emily. I personally want to see Cathy go. It has been proven over and over she cant get along with anyone and will not listen to anyones opinion but her own. How could she possibly get her own show when she is such a b***h. I dont even like looking at her. I agree Cathy throws everbody under the bus any chance she gets. Please please vote her off next week, I dont think Tyler should have gone home either. Yeah Cathy was good in front of the camera but her kitchen looked like she just unloaded groceries and forgot to put them away. I watch all the design shows and arent kitchens supposed to be uncluttered????? Get rid of Cathy!!!!!

Pat, I have to disagree Cathy is horrible in front of the camera. She's like looking into the mouth of "Alien" all teeth and gums and bulging eyes!!! Horriffic!

I think Cathy needs to leave! she doesnt get along with ANYONE! Of course she has good camera skills she was a reporter! I woulndnt watch her show if it was the only thing on tv. She is a control freak and needs to leave!
I agree with you all the way. I too wouldn't even want to watch a show with Cathy in it. I don't understand why she is still on the show. She should have gone. I'm very disappointed that she continues to make it.
