So, did anyone else adore Kellie's cabbage votives like I did? Very creative, I thought. I've been wondering if other fruits and veggies might also work in that capacity. Maybe carved potatoes? Or, for halloween, shrunken head dried apples? Hmmm….
The concept is cute but I think someone else mentioned on a different part of this blog that it's a fire hazard and if you had little kids around, can get dangerous. Also the smell of rotting or burnt cabbage – ewe. fart-o-rama. Plus, But it's kind of wasting food.

Years ago my friend carved hollowed-out oranges into jack-o'-lanterns for Halloween. Really, I just felt she had too much time on her hands but they were very impressive with their candles in them.
You think they are showing this clip because they are sending Karl home this week? I'm starting to wonder. I hope not! That would really suck
If they send Karl home, I really WILL stop watching the show. It will be too boring to watch after. I like Kellie and Mark but it wont be enough for me to keep watching with just the 2 of them. There will be no point in watching after that. I'll stop caring who wins.
I'm sure the folks at HGTV will sorely miss you.
Hey fairfanny, that's a bad attitude, maybe fanfair123 has been a loyal fan since season 1 like me. I would also stop watching if Karl goes home, although I'm probably not going to continue watching anyway, since it is too much reality TV and not enough contest. If HGTV has as cavalier an attitude as you, they could effectively reduce their viewers to a bare minimum. Anyway, this is a public forum so just allow people to vent without being such a misery.
CharlesD, thank you! Yes. I am a long time viewer of DS and HGTV. HGTV does seem like they are being cavalier about what their audience thinks in general about DS. They might have gotten a bit of a pardon before they posted that picture of Cathy and David in this blog area (since the show is taped and it could have been a miss on their part regarding Cathy). But it seems they are looking for strong reactions from their viewers, even if it's negative =
It would be nice if HGTV cared about what I say here. But we all know that is not the case. LOL! But that's cool

I agree! Karl has totally rocked every episode except for CATHY'S KITCHEN during which he was allowed nothing but the kitchen color and the chandelier. Karl has demonstrated flawless taste and excecution every time! ROCK ON, KARL!
I love Karl too! But he hasn't had much of a chance to show his great talent! Go homeCathy!! And A big bravo to Karl!!!!
No, they can't send Karl home! He is very talented and I want to see what he comes up with next. Also, Kellie is great and is someone that has alot more to show us!

So sick of Kathy. Show is rigged. Tyler had so much creative talent. HGTV doesn't mention in Kathys info that they have her on in HGTV Canada. This is no longer a creative design contest- it's a tacky BAD reality show! Vern and Gen, your integrity is compromised. Candace, is that why you are really not on, 'cause you won't say horrid designers are good? Disgusted.

Given what I have found out so far about the show, I am thinking the same. She probably doesn't want to be bothered with the trifling melodrama of reality TV! And Candice is my fav too. But I love David B as well. I feel like I'm watching my brother design when I see him on his show. He's so cute and funny
Going back to Candice, she's the REAL DEAL – a design superstar (and she doesn't need HGTV to give her credentials)
Come to think of it, I wonder if that's why Clive is no longer there too – he didn't want to be part of that kind of show maybe?

I think the show is rigged as well. I figure I can stop watching now, and just keep up with the blogs and message boards for my gossip.
Good reveal, Michel. Nepotism is ugly. Cathy should loose her show in Canada — not add a new one this way. Who did she have to schtup?

I love HGTV. I watch it almost daily. I'm not a huge "reality show" fan, but there are a few good ones out there.
As for Design Star, it's a great premise and really interesting to watch . . . if there were actually any "reality" to it.
My first vote – get rid of these judges. Vern, Genevieve and Candace are cardboard props who have no useful input and their weekly comments are completely superfluous.
Second vote – new host. This one does not have the personality and charisma to carry a show like this. Clive was a much better choice.
Third vote – Cathy is the most ridiculous contestant on this show. She's the Omarosa of Design Star. Overbearing, virtually narcissistic, confrontational, with no design eye whatsoever. I have yet to see her produce anything worthwhile, yet she sure is her own biggest (and only) fan.
Another disappointing season. I love the premise of this show and would so very much enjoy a real outcome to this reality show.
Candace is my favorite designer on HGTV and I think she has been a good judge. I would however, like to see Genevieve replaced by Lisa LaPorte (Designed to Sell) who happens to be my second favorite HGTV designer. Lisa's criticism is always constructive and given in a positive, kind manner. I have no complaints about the current host but much preferred Clive. I miss his witty, charismatic charm.
Every week I keep hoping that Cathy will be sent home but I'm beginning to think they want her there till the end, because she generates so much interest even though it's negative interest.
In my opinion, it doesn't really matter who the judges are, or how good or bad their comments are, their "judging" is really pointless because the producers of the show actually determine who stays and who goes. I always thought it odd that the judges, in their deliberation, would comment on certain things the designers did, but we never really saw their discussion of why they let a particular designer go.
If there was actually merit to their opinions, the idea of revolving judges is great because personal taste has a lot to do with judging interior design and staging work. Maybe just a host, with a good sense of interior design, should be the one constant and the panel should be revolving. But the producers actually have to let each designer rise or fall on their own merit, and let the panel actually decide who stays and who goes based on that individual merit.
I agree they should have the discussion of the judges shown for the decision.. I would prefer too that they do not know who did the design until after they discuss and judge it. Then bring in the contestants to explain what they think
yes I think it is rigged and they are making nasty comments just to get through the day.. The original show was a true contest and well run . then hgtv has tried to turn it into a reality show.. guess what hgtv I do not watch any of the reality shows I HATE them will not watch survivor apprentice etc. they are low class garbage..

kathy has to go why did you even let her on the show? I have friends in other states who watch and we call each other and all agree she isthe worst ever and a total turn off. We are all ready to stop watching after being with you from very first show.Dave is a wonderful person and design star we love him. Kathy stays we will all stop watching.She needs help what a disappointmentto see something like that on your show. WHYYYYY???????????????????????????????????????????
You nailed it!!! I don't like the host and didn't like her on HGTV'D. Cathy is a completely inappropriate contestant. I love HGTV and would appreciate seeing designers working together and having a fair chance and jjoy in displaying their talents. It is sad to think that Cathy beat out hundreds of designers who would have helped to make the show fun and competitive. The fact that she works for HGTV Canada leads one to believe that the folks in Canada want to get rid of her. Cathy may be one of those persons who is not able to maintain a job in television or any profession because she is a mean bitch who has to be in control at all times. If she is incapable of working with these designers she is surely incapable of working with directors, producers, camera and lighting staff, stage hands and anyone else that she comes in contact with. There are so many people needed to produce a show and most if not all must have complained about her. She is a disaster waiting to happen and must go before the judges have no one left because Cathy had bullied them off the show.
This week either Cathy goes or I do! "I've taken all I can stand and I can stand NO MORE!"

I am with you. If there is no addressing of this very poor behavior or termination of Cathy, I will join you and enjoy other programming. Wouldnt you think sponsors wouldn't want to be associated with this poor behavior? AARP, Nissan, and other advertisers must be disgusted. Is this really fixed?

I definitely agree. I have been saying all along that Kathy needed to go. Tonight…..I have done TV camera shots, I have wedding designs in magazines….blah, blah, blah! Yeah she is finally gone!
Me too! I think Cathy may just win as the most annoying, self-centered reality tv contestant of all time!
I have to agree with virtually everything said about Kathy. She needs to go, but I think Kevin is right on her heels. He's made more bad decisions than any of the other designers… including (and maybe especially) Tyler. The scale of Kevin's office space vs. Tyler's bench and table leaves me wondering where the judge's heads were at.
I agree. Kevin is sort of 3-trick pony, and he's probably on his way out. Cathy won't win. If you read her blog, you'll see her pleading for votes for the fan favorite online show competition. She wouldn't be doing that if she were this year's design star

I would really like to see Cathy be sent home after the upcoming episode but think it will be Kevin. I was actually surprised that Kevin wasn't sent packing last week.
Is it true that Kathy is on a Canadian HGTV show? What a bully. I am not impressed.
