Goodbye, Cathy

Three National Magazines

Despite the fact that her wedding was featured in “three national magazines,” Cathy’s drab tablescapes and un-romantic sweetheart table made the judges say “We will not be producing your show.” But she’s not going without a fight! See what she has to say about going home.

What do you think about Cathy’s exit interview? Tell us in the comments below.

  1. What planet is this person from? She has acted all along as if it were her show, bossing everyone around and not sharing the work . I really was surpised she lasted as long as she did, but figured it was a ploy to kept us all watching to see if she'd get the boot. Good thing, because now I'll watch the rest of the season. Couldn't stand another week if she were around!

Cheryl on August 17, 2011 at 10:09 am
    • agreed! exactly what i was thinking! i was getting so annoyed the last 3 episodes watching her boss everyone around!

Bri on August 17, 2011 at 11:05 am
      • By the way what really is wrong with her eyes? Just wondering, she looks like her eyes are about to pop our of her head at any moment. Spooky………..

Dianne on August 18, 2011 at 2:04 pm
        • That was my concern. The body language of keeping your eyes open is to show innocence and surprise, of which she was neither.
It was so annoying to watch her, I am just happy she is gone. I hope she reads all of our comments.

Brena on August 18, 2011 at 3:33 pm
          • The popping of the eyes is a medical condition called Exophthalmos which is usually associated with Graves Disease. It can cause a dramatic constallation of neuropsychological and physical signs and symptoms and is a condition that should not be taken lightly or as a joke. In regards to the subject of design, after reading all of the negative comments I couldn't believe someone could be so terrible. So, I decided to watch episode 6 and draw my own conclusion about this woman. However, half way into the episode, I'd had enough of her bragging and boasting and I must say your comments were all on target.

      • I COMPLETELY AGREE SHE NEEDED TO GO HOME. SHE WAS GETTING ON MY LAST NERVE.

CRISTAL on August 21, 2011 at 11:44 pm
    • I totally agree. I've wanted her gone since the first show. She does not play well with others, and it was her way or the highway. It seemed like Karl was acting like her this week. I have liked Karl all along, except for this week. Hopefully he'll go back to being nice Karl this week. I can't decide who my favorite is – it's either Mark or Kelly. I also love Meg. I agree – I can now watch the show easier with Kathy gone.

Terri on August 17, 2011 at 1:22 pm
      • Very well said Terri! Finally we can concentrate on their ability to design…..what a concept!

        Donna G on August 18, 2011 at 8:24 pm
    • I totally agree, if Cathy stayed even for shock value of the show, I'd be done. Maybe now we can watch designing and not a bossy whatever. Thanks for listening to the bloggers.

    • She comes from the planet of,
"I won 5 emmy's, had my wedding published in 3 national magazines, and I'm FABULOUS. So hush now! And listen to ME."

      LOL!

    • I agree completely. What planet are the judges from for keeping her on the show as long as they did?

Denny on August 17, 2011 at 10:53 pm
      • She does really speak well to the camera, when her eyes were not bugging out! But I think that is the only reason she stayed around. If we were just viewing camera challenges and not the whole show watching her work or shall we say control others, I think more viewers would have liked her more. But personality is your stamp, we all judge by that! She needs to take a step back and think of others instead of herself. I really feel sorry for people like that!

    • Thank God she is gone…I so agree. I think that she should have gone home a long time ago. You can't expect to act like that and stay until the end..Honestly if she was to stay on another episode I would have not watched the rest of the season…

Kristin on August 17, 2011 at 11:34 pm
    • Ditto! I can now watch the show in realtime instead of recording it and skipping the parts where Cathy is talking. If the judges had selected her as Design Star, I would not have watched her show.

Sherry on August 18, 2011 at 8:34 am
      • I agree with EVERYONE. I always muted the sound when came on. I knew it was either or Karl. Ithrilled that it was her.

    • Cheryl,
      You are spot on!

Guest on August 18, 2011 at 1:47 pm
    • You are so right about Cathy what a witch! I had started to change the channel as watching her degrade and boss around her partners was too painful to watch. I am glad they got rid of her once and for all! Yeah, judges way too late but it is done! I will continue to watch the rest of the eliminations now. I like all the remaining designers personalities and hope they all step it up a bit on their designs! Mark is creative, Meg is creative as well. They can come to my house anytime I am in desperate need of help! LOL

Dianne on August 18, 2011 at 1:59 pm
    • I agree with you 100%…I wanted her off from day one..She thought she was miss hotty totty…LOL

Vicki on August 18, 2011 at 2:24 pm
    • We couldn't agree with you more. We were certain that her stale "additions" would soon be more than the judges could bear. If she had, at least, been pleasant or interested in their comments we would not have been hoping for her exit as much. Go, Mark!

MaineLizzie on August 18, 2011 at 3:18 pm
    • Ditto! I am surprised thar she lasted as long as she did. She reminded me of Michele Obama. Too bossy! Good Bye Cathy!

Carol on August 18, 2011 at 3:30 pm
      • Yes, sadly to say, her love affair with herself, those eyes bugging out almost constantly….and she does remind me some of M. Obama.

dee on August 18, 2011 at 9:21 pm
        • You're a racist. They look nothing alike. Why would you even post that here?
How disgusting. And I can't believe 2 people liked your post!
Maybe there's some truth to the bias innuendo posts I've seen in the blogs here.

guest on August 19, 2011 at 4:05 am
          • Sorry, if you like the show and want to see all get fair opportunities, you would not throw out the racist card!! I have met a few people like this before in my lifetime. It is obvious that Cathy was not going to work with anyone, her way or the highway. She was rude and overbearing. So sad that she is so talented, but yet can't see talent in others. She could have been a great mentor, but she had to be the boss.

Linda on August 19, 2011 at 9:52 am
          • YOU COMPARED HER TO MICHELLE OBAMA
            HELLOOOOOOOOOOO?!!
Put their pictures next to each other. THEY LOOK NOTHING LIKE.

WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT UNLESS YOU JUST THINK ALL BLACK PEOPLE LOOK ALIKE?

DON'T BE AN ASS. IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE THAT KIND OF STATEMENT AT LEAST HAVE THE BALLS TO OWN UP TO IT. PUNK!

AND TO ALL OF YOU WHO DON'T LIKE MY POST, KISS THIS!!!
OBVIOUSLY IF YOU SHARE THIS PERSON'S SENTIMENTS THEN YOU ARE JUST LIKE HER TOO. AN ASS AND A PUNK! AND I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK.

SINCE YOUR REPLY DOES HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT I WAS RESPONDING TO.

SO DO ME A FAVOR, BEFORE YOU POST ANYTHING ELSE. GO GET EDUMICATED – GUESS WHAT? READING IS FUNDAMENTAL.

guest on August 20, 2011 at 7:27 pm
          • why do you have to be so angry about it? Yes what she said was the deal. Why does the race card have to be pulled all the time. Because she said that Cathy reminded her of Michelle? I am educated and I felt she reminded me of Michelle Obama from the very beginning. What is wrong with that? I dont think all blacks look a like either. I have tons of black friends as well as black family members who I love just the same as my white, mexican, asian ect ect… Just because a white person has an opinion over someone of another race does not make them racist. I think you need to grow up and get educated. We are all people, no matter what color skin we have.

Jody on August 20, 2011 at 8:27 pm
          • Guest, they were comparing her personality, at least that is how I read their comment. I did not take it that they were comparing looks they were comparing that they acted bossy. Kathy probably is a very good designer but she would not work as a team member, ever, she was always telling her partners what to do and how to do it and even telling them "Right Now". I can hear her telling her clients that they are wrong in what they want and they need to listen to her. I'd be firing her immediately!

Amarillolesa on August 24, 2011 at 9:29 am
          • I am not a racist but I agree. That was the first thing I thought when she very first came on the show. Before we knew how bossy she was. She is a lot like Michelle Obama. As for her being so bossy, I have never really watched Michelle be bossy. I did like Cathy when she worked alone. She did brag on herself but she did show talent. It was when she had to work with other. She can't. Being confident in yourself and being bossy are two different things. You have to be able to combine your ideas with others and she was not able to do that. She also was very quick to blame mistakes on others. The judges saw it right when thye stated that on this episode. I started hating her from that point on. I was very happy they took her off the show. I have been wanting it to be her that last few shows. I was really disappointed that she lasted this long.

Jody on August 20, 2011 at 11:43 am
          • Racist? Really?

My first impression was also that she reminded me of M. Obama. A strong, confident woman, tall, slender, fit, carries herself well, dresses with a casual elegance. I'd take the comparison as a compliment. Not to mention I'd LOVE to have arms like M. Obama, I'm just a little to lazy to achieve them.

Mary on August 20, 2011 at 2:39 pm
      • What exactly do you mean Michele Obama is "too bossy"? Cite some examples. Your statement can be taken as being racist–I hope this was not your intent. FYI, Caucasian women are viewed as "assertive" whenever they declare their accomplishments; however, African-American women are viewed as "aggressive" when they do the exact same thing.

I do believe that Cathy could have done a better job on the table, but other designers did, in my opinion, far worse than she did in this challenge (e.g., the designer who did the sign-up table).

Ola on August 19, 2011 at 4:36 pm
    • Thank God she is gone. Kathy would give Omarosa on the Apprentice some competition in being rude & obnoxious. Could not stand listening to her try to convince everyone how great she was at "everything". What a bore and such a Diva with no audience. Hopefully she will watch the show and make some much needed changes in her approach to dealing with others. If she mends her ways it will make anyone who needs to deal with her in the future very happy.

Nancy on August 18, 2011 at 3:33 pm
      • If you look at the posts above maybe the commentors meant Omarosa from the apprentice, I too thought she was in the same club, not willing to listen to other people and work as a team player. Good comments Nancy :)

She was hard to watch, glad she gone, they needed to put her in time out!

    • I am also SOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY that she is gone, Now I can sit back and enjoy the show. I actually was going to stop watching it because of Cathy. Can't watch to see the complete next show.
      Thank you Judges!!!

Debra on August 18, 2011 at 4:03 pm
    • Oh so true! She thought way too highly of her talents, wouldn't carry her share of the load, kept the other designers she was partnered with back, and then lied when she was confronted with her actions and decisions. Her booting was long long overdue. Goodbye Queenie In Your Own Mind, and good riddance!

Katherine on August 18, 2011 at 4:23 pm
    • I totally agree! She was a total bully/brat. I was about to stop watching as well!

Kami Dee on August 18, 2011 at 4:26 pm
    • I'm with you!! I was ready to stop watching the show. She stinks as a designer and her personality was even worse! She really thinks she is better than the rest of the contestants-what a joke.

Shauna on August 18, 2011 at 4:30 pm
    • I feel just like you do. She always thought her decision and work was better than anyone else. Goes to show her that her work was not the best…even if her wedding was in three national magazines or not. Cathys' was good enough for Design Star……"WE WILL NOT BE PRODUCING YOUR SHOW."

      Tod'Dera on August 18, 2011 at 4:36 pm

Lynne on August 18, 2011 at 4:55 pm
    • You are exactly right, she was arrogant, bossy and everything had to go her way. Who cares if she was in a design magazine, She made sure everybody knew it. That's what happens when you get too cocky! I say good riddance.

ginae on August 18, 2011 at 5:09 pm
    • Cheryl ….SPOT ON !!! She had an over inflated opinion of herself and her work. Had NO IDEA how to work with others and to elicit fruitful coordination of the work of her team mates. I also thought she was a ploy to cretate controversy. She was clearly the least liked person on th show and she mistakenly thought it was jealousy when in fact her work was uninspiring and she had no ability to see hself in any way but in glowing self admiration. Did you knowtht she was in 3 national magazines???? Ha!! Let's all hear that just one more time!!

Mark on August 18, 2011 at 5:34 pm
    • Cheryl, I agree. Now we can enjoy the rest of the season. My desire is that she NEVER gets a national tv show. If HGTV is as smart as I think they are, it won't be woth them. Goodby to the Napoleon want to be.

Tracy on August 18, 2011 at 5:46 pm
    • So glad the witch is gone. She has been putting all the other contestants down from day one.
I would never have watched her show if she won.
I imagine the remaining people are very pleased with her exit.

    • each designer brings something to the table..unfortunately everything cathy brought to the table was mediocre.

lori on August 18, 2011 at 6:23 pm
    • If she wasn't so busy patting her own back she might have been able to design with both hands, not just with her mouth. The judges sent her home not the other designers. I wonder if sour grapes make everyone's eyes bug out of their head! But seriously it will be a much better competition without her. Good luck to all the other designers and may the most talented man or woman win. I think that any of them could win! Looking forward to see a good race to the finish, and a lot more great designs!

Denice on August 18, 2011 at 7:05 pm
      • LOL!! TOO FUNNY!!

stephanie on August 18, 2011 at 9:32 pm
    • Cathy may have had experience, publications and blah blah blah but from week to week her designs were mediocre at best. She overdressed that kitchen; why would I have a picture full of eggs on the counter, all the better to get some salmonella in my fridge, the white box challenge was only slightly better than Jay;s (the white mosiac table); the real issue for me is that if you review the episodes what Cathy was good at was shopping and sometimes those choices were just ok. So I haven't mentioned her personality. Enuf said.

JPW on August 18, 2011 at 7:18 pm
      • I was thinking the same thing, she just was a shopper and not all that creative. She was so mean to the other partners that she worked with and way too full of herself. She would not listen to the others when they tried to put in their opinions. So happy she is gone.

Jenny on August 22, 2011 at 12:34 am

CKWarner on August 18, 2011 at 7:49 pm

show was going to leave the air.

Deb on August 18, 2011 at 8:04 pm
    • I TOTALLY AGREE!!!

I couldn't believe she lasted as long as she did. she obviously doesn't own a mirror- can't see her own faults at all.. Wonder why she isnt in broadcasting anymore or why with all of her 'greatness' she boasts about, she ever thought she would need to be on HGTV–always appeared like she thought she didn't need Design Star, they needed her

cindy on August 18, 2011 at 8:14 pm
    • I totally agree. I couldn't stand her attitude toward everyone there. She was holier than thou. Glad she is gone so I don't have to stop watching my favorite show.

Lindsey on August 18, 2011 at 8:38 pm

inotmad on August 18, 2011 at 8:41 pm
    • I agree with you Cheryl. She was bossing people around. The kitchen was absolutely "Clutter City" and I thought to myself if she has such experience as she is supposedly saying all the time she would not have cluttered that kitchen that way. That table was defintely lacking. I could not wait to see her go. She did not get along with anyone on that show. What back stabbing is she talking about? I didn't see it! She needs meds!

Teresa on August 18, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Pamela on August 18, 2011 at 9:02 pm
    • Cathy was not a team player. She argued with everyone and it was as though it was her show and hardly gave anyone a chance to voice their opinion. She pushed too hard and it pushed her off. She was extremely bossy and opinionated. I too was surprised she lasted as long as she did. There was no back stabbing, The rest of the designers were extremely uncomfortable in all of the designs that included her. Bless you Cathy, but now you can be your own boss. God bless you.

Harriett Houston on August 18, 2011 at 9:07 pm
    • She hails from Universe Cathy, specifically Planet Cathy which orbits the Sun Cathy. From the first episode, she demonstrated that hers was the only opinion that could possibly matter to anyone with a three digit IQ, and that the others were simply unworthy of her cooperation. Her arrogance is astonishing, and clearly unwarranted, as evidenced by her failure to beat out those whom she considered to be "lesser beings". I hoped she would be booted from the beginning, and cheered with the rest of you when she was surprized by her loss. Her exit interview was the the perfect sour cherry on the top of her cake of dismissiveness. In a perfect world, she would learn from this experience. But I won't hold my breath. Or watch a show she hosts.

JP on August 18, 2011 at 9:13 pm
    • I totally agree!!!!

stephanie on August 18, 2011 at 9:25 pm

    • I agree with you. She did not play well with others, she acted like she was running the whole show not on as a possible design star. Pride is an awful demon to be owned by. I wanted to see these people all succeed, except Cathy…………..it is a shame to have so many people replying the same way about one person. She needs to get a clue.

mkg on August 18, 2011 at 9:53 pm

    • I totally agree, it's about time she went home. It was so evident that she thought she was superior to everyone else, bossing them around and most of all she proved over and over NOT to be a team player. Her going home, made my day. She is one of those people that will never get it!

Debbie on August 19, 2011 at 2:06 am
    • There's an old saying that REALLY applys here – "Thank God and Greyhound, She's GONE" I don't think I could have stood for another week of over blown – self centered CATHY…. I have been a self employed business woman for 30 plus years and I would not work with this woman for one minute. Let's just say it like it is people – she was a real witch with a B. Her designs were terrible. Her stagging was a joke – and who would even want to stand and have a conversation with her – Let alone hire her for a design job. That was one person I would have never watched on HGTV….

    • I have to agree with most of the comments. I could not understand why she lasted as long as she did. I would not hire her. Her attitude is that it is others who are at fault, she is perfect. Best just to say good by don't let the door…………

John on August 19, 2011 at 8:59 am
    • Thank you for eliminating her.

Her designs were very unprofesional. What drug is she on???

With an ego like hers she better hide in her own closet.
Look forward to the future shows now.

    • I could barely stand to watch the show this season due to Cathy's arrogance. If she believes she is as "talented" as she states the I say "go and use your talent in a barn with your terrible attitude" Can't imagine anyone would hire her to decorate their home after an initial meeting with her…she exudes nothing but arrogance and appears to live in a self-centered world…geeee how does that make for a designer who is to please the customer????

RiRi on August 19, 2011 at 10:32 am
    • i agree, could not believe she did not get kicked off last week when she put fruit and vegs all over the kitchen counters. Cheryl needs to watch the shows and see for herself how she acted. good job judges for giving her the boot.

maryann on August 19, 2011 at 11:04 am
    • I am grateful that the judges finally acted on what the television audience has been consistently observing – that is, that there is one common denominator in the weekly unpleasant aspects of interpersonal and design drama, and her name is Cathy! Her self-prideful demeanor, inability to "play nice with others," and simply "mediocre or acceptable" design skill and talent, have been evident for weeks now. It has been difficult to watch, and it has prevented other talented contestants from demonstrating their best work. I now look forward to the remaining shows, and my blood pressure has returned to normal !

Sue on August 19, 2011 at 11:16 am
    • She was not a likeable person and didn't get along with any of her co-designers. Not everyone can be wrong. As far as design talent………………I haven't seen much real talent for good looking rooms from any of them this season. Very disappointing. Skateboards, utensils on a wall, vegatables all over the place, numerous unfinished rooms………………..OMG! There is no Candice, Genevieve or David here.

Suzanne on August 19, 2011 at 11:47 am
    • You are sooooo right. Listening to her reasoning, blaming the other designers is rediculous. Even if they, as the panel told them, were trying to stand up for their own designs, Cathy would change things and make it all her design, which to me was boring. Again, in her exit interview, she is "published". I am sorry, but I wouldn't hire her to design my place as she is boring. Thank you panel for FINALLY getting rid of her. The others (most of them) have had wonderful ideas and have enjoyed them and their personalities as well.

    • She was almost causing me to stop watching–

Loved the expression on Meg's face this week when Cathy saidfor the third timehow her wedding was featured nationally–

I think Vern just had enough of her and he really dislikes people who lie–Cathy said she was burnt on the flowers when the video proved poor Meg was asking her about the flowers and Cathy just ignored her–
Cathy must be in business for herself–can't imagine her working for anyone with that attitude of her's.

      Bye Bye

      gowe22 on August 19, 2011 at 2:45 pm
    • I agree–I couldn't stand her from the beginning. I can't see how she's been successful in her business, since she doesn't seem to consider anyone's wishes but her own. I can't believe she'd listen to her clients any better. Good riddance and let's all have fun now!

      roo1963 on August 19, 2011 at 3:33 pm
    • I agree with Cheryl, I love Design Stars, but when it leaves someone on the show that should be eliminated for not having talent or ability to work well with others, then its time to stop watching. Please DS don't make the mistake of keeping nasty people on the show just for the ratings. It seems like once that happens people that enjoy the show for what it is lose interest. Just look what happened to "Trading Spaces". Was a great design show, went "hollywood" for ratings and was cancelled before you could change the channel! Although several good designers came out of it – Genn and Vern – love you both!!!

    • dJean

I TEE TOTALLY agree with Cheryl. No one knew anything about anything buy her. Remember the kitchen counter where she had junk on all of them. She supposedly had done this before also, but the Judges didn't like it because you couldn't see the counter tops at all. I'm soooo glad she's gone! I too, will continue to look at the remaining shows of the season.

Charlotte on August 19, 2011 at 5:49 pm
    • Wow. Talk about being into yourself. Yes, she was very good with her TV 30 seconds. But talk about any team work. NOT! Sorry, she didn't give anybody kudo's for anything. Good choice for her to go. Ya want things done, IT'S ALL ABOUT WORKING IN HARMONY, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO.
Plus her Wedding table was not well done. Enough said.

Camille on August 19, 2011 at 8:14 pm
    • I hate to say it but I agree with you! I was never so happy to see someone eliminated. She was way too arrogant. I too can watch the rest of the season in peace.

URKiddingMe on August 19, 2011 at 8:50 pm
    • Could not be happier to see Cathy Godzilla, GONE BABY, GONE! Happy days are here again I will watch the rest of the season with joy! Cathy was AWFUL and NOT a great designer and after all her years she ought to have been better!

lita on August 19, 2011 at 8:50 pm
    • You"re right. Cathy's designs were horrible, and she was terrible with other people! If she got her own show the producers would fire her after the first episode. She is so crazy for thinking that the other designers were trying to bring her down; she was trying to bring them down! I will never like her.

Mimi on August 19, 2011 at 9:29 pm
    • Totally agree. I wasn't going to watch another show if she didn't go. They did the same thing last year and let the lady stay who created issues – to them it might be adding drama – to me it hurts the show when people like her are left to mess others up. Glad she is gone.

Carolyn on August 19, 2011 at 10:08 pm
    • I totally agree! when the season began, I was all revved up to watch but the more I had to deal with listening to Cathy, the less I wanted to watch the show. it became an hour of stress for them and for me. now I am ready to watch again – thankfully without Nasty Cathy!

marci on August 19, 2011 at 11:21 pm
    • I totally agree with you Cheryl. She was always singing her praises but didn't live up to them. I have watched every season, but if she had not gone this week I would never watch another one!!!! Every episode she could not get along with the others and acted as if they worked for her. Get real – Cathy. Go back where you came from.

Sherri on August 19, 2011 at 11:25 pm

    • Not only that, but that table she chose at the wedding reception was real tacky and cheapish looking, which is why she got booted off.. I'm not a designing expert, but even I could see that a a tablecloth that looked like it would be fit for an elementary school party, was not the best choice for a classy Victorian style wedding reception. She got booted off because she failed, and not because she was picked on,as she claims/

      Lor3en Price on August 20, 2011 at 6:33 pm

    • Because Cathy is a proud, confident black women, she has to be from another planet. I was surprised also but not for the same reason as you. I'm suprised on how fast they got rid of the black contestants. And another thing I will not watch another epison because of the racism of this show. Carl did not contribute to anything, he couldn't do a simple flower arrangement.

Jan on August 21, 2011 at 3:03 pm
    • Cathy obviously has some major mental health issues as evidenced by her narcissistic rampages which contradict her demonstrated inability to meet the mark as a professional designer. Her denial of culpability for consistent design failures renders her a danger to "herself and others" in any designer environment. A "Designer Mental Health Warrant" is inevitable!"

      nixy12u on August 21, 2011 at 3:03 pm
    • Agree, if Cathy's talent was as big as her ego, she would still be on the show. She couldn't get along with ANY of the other contestants, thought she was so much better, and obviously she is NOT a good designer.

Barbara on August 21, 2011 at 7:39 pm
    • she still has no clue that she's difficult to watch, impossible to work with and completely talent-free. Of course they kept her on just to improve ratings, I would say controversy makes good TV, but there really was no controversy involved…the viewers unanimously hated her.

Hallton on August 21, 2011 at 8:29 pm
    • She has been the hardest person to work with…that is NOT a good attribute working with a crew on a show…I am so thrilled she is off the show. Good bye good luck…she will definitely need it!

bobbie on August 21, 2011 at 10:04 pm
    • I agree with everything you wrote, Cheryl. I couldn't have watched her another week either. In fact, I didn't watch this episode because I couldn't stand the lady. Not a nice person, and at that said, I couldn't have cared less if she had been the ultimate designer. I would not have ever used her services. She's bossy, pushy, manipulative, controlling, and a real nasty lady to her fellow contestants. I was so glad to see online that she was eliminated. Now I'll watch again. And those buggy eyes! I could never watch her as a hostess of anything.

    • She was constantly talking about her experience, but not once did she win a challenge. Meg asked her 3 times what kind of flowers she wanted on the sweetheart table. She didn't respond; she didn't even bother to look Meg's way to acknowledge she'd even been spoken too. I wouldn't hire her to decorate my gargage, much less a room in my home. Glad she finally got the boot!

      betty1952fayeray on August 22, 2011 at 11:08 am
    • Can't agree with you more. The only "talent" Cathy has is talking in front of a camera. I think all of her design decisions were pathetic. There was no redeeming value.Design is about collaboration. She went out of her way to assure she would shop & stage but when actual work was involved she tried every ploy in the book to disappear. I'm very grateful she has been eliminated otherwise the judging might come into question. And how petty was her exit interview when she accused the other contestants of backstabbing & animalistic behavior. Ple-e-e-e-ase. Good riddance to bad behavior, what is she? 5 or 4 yrs old?

ELM on August 22, 2011 at 11:43 am

Kathleen Garrity on August 23, 2011 at 7:59 am
    • I would never have worked with her. Her designs were at best mediocre and bland. This woman took no respponsibility for the fact no one could stand being in the same room with her. She is childish at best and not artistic or a capable designer.

Christina on August 23, 2011 at 2:29 pm
    • I totally agree with you and she did not work well with any of the other designers she was working with. I am glad she is gone too and hope that she does well with her own business and after she reads some of her fan mail hopefully she will change and look into herself righteous attitude and make some changes.

Jan on August 23, 2011 at 8:37 pm
    • I agree with the comment about keeping a difficult personality in play for ratings and other comments speaking to her lack of talent. What about the poor designers who suffered when they were paired with her??? She brought down whomever she was teamed with, a misfortune for her peers. Maybe the judges will bring back the designers who paid a large price when teamed with her. Not arguing with her wasn't a weakness of her co-designers, it was humility before the fall.

    • I had missed this episode and finally decided to watch on-line tomight. I think you are right Cheryl.. I guess the biggest question I kept asking myself over the past several episodes despite her bad attitude was whether or not I would want her to help me with my home. I havent observed her making the best choices and her attempts to voice to the team that she was the best because of her resume didn't make her any more appealing. Who would want to watch her on TV or have a designer in their home with that mentality. Not me.

Marilyn on September 2, 2011 at 3:04 am
    • Exactly. The word "egocentric" comes to mind. Do you think if she rewatches the shows she was on she will better understand her show being cancelled?

      Shea307 on September 13, 2011 at 11:24 am
  2. Just proves that you really do not see your own faults; the sweetheart table was horrible, she was always difficult to work with and refused to accept any responsibility for her own work when the judges didn't like it. On the kitchen challenge she cluttered the cabinets with products, argued with her co-designer when he tried to change things and as always denied the fact that he didn't agree. Short of arm-wrestling her to the ground, she was going to place things in that kitchen where she wanted them regardless of his opinion. Anyone who watched the show "heard" that she had been published in three national magazines multiple times……..IF she was as good as she thought she was, she would have been offered her own show long before this.
Thankgoodness she is gone, if she had managed to stay and get her own show I would never have watched it and been truly disappointed in HGTV.

    • Good recap. It was about time she was booted off. Cathy was the most arrogant, conceited, opinionated, lackluster participant yet, and set my teeth on edge week after week. A host may be the "star" of a show, but you work with a team. Can you imagine hiring someone to decorate who never even listened to what you wanted? I was beginning to wonder about HGTV – if they were looking for a good designing host or just playing with the ratings – they've restored my faith a little but.

MimiMonet on August 18, 2011 at 9:33 pm
    • I couldn't agree with you more! She was bossy and rude to her co designers throughout the entire season and her design style was horrible. She has to be the most arrogant designer to appear on Design Star. Maybe she can find a home at her often spoken of magazine.

Daniel Kirkpatrick on August 19, 2011 at 12:55 pm
    • I so agree with you. I hope Cathy will watch the episodes she was on and see what we all saw. Maybe she will grow from this experience.
The other thing about Cathy that makes her unsuited for TV is how "bug eyed" she gets when she talks another reason it's hard to watch her.

Jenny on August 19, 2011 at 1:07 pm
    • I agree with you 100%, she was over the top, and did not play well with others. Cathy never took suggestions from the other contestants and she got into it with every one who was partnered with her.

    • Agree 100% with your comments. She consistently proved that she could not work with others. Every time suggestions were offered, she refused to listen. She never once took ownership for her decisions. She always found a way to throw blame at someone else. Never say someone so eager to blow her own horn. SO glad she's out of there!

    • I totally agree with you. She was horrible.

Anjie on August 17, 2011 at 8:05 pm
    • AMEN!!! I couldn't stand listening to Cathy any longer. I agree she was obnoxious and arrogant.

CheryleD on August 17, 2011 at 8:16 pm
      • Cheryle, you are sssoooooooooo RIGHT!!! I totally agree!

Jan Miles on August 18, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Karen on August 18, 2011 at 5:53 pm
    • I so agree…. I was disgusted even more because i really thought she would bring some Brooklyn flavor but all she had was a BiGGGGG EGO! how many times did she mention her wedding was in a magazine agh! so over Cathy

Resse on August 18, 2011 at 7:29 pm
    • Amen. And she's not even a designer…she's a shopper.

Jen on August 19, 2011 at 12:02 pm
    • Why did you think she would be a good designer? Her designs have been awful from the first show! Remember that terrible bench she made of wimpy pillows? Her designs looked like a child did them. I detested her designs even more than her personality. Surely America has better designers than this. I don't see how she ever got on the show in the first place.

liz on August 20, 2011 at 6:25 pm
    • I so agree with your comments. I thought they would never get rid of her. She needs to learn how to work and get along with others. Good riddance!!!!!!!!!

CEA on August 20, 2011 at 7:43 pm
    • Oh Donna I couldn't have said it better… GOOD RIDANCE to a bad DESIGNER! She shows lack of character, and showmanship. To never listen to fellow designers was her down fall. I thought she was a witchy Bitch now cut down to size.. Thank Goodness!!

Idaho Dimples on August 20, 2011 at 9:29 pm
    • I totally agree! I was so tired of watching Cathy strut around as if it wasmhermown show, She was the worst dresigner to come along since the started. I am so glad that she gone!

Joyce on August 21, 2011 at 1:59 am
    • I soo…agree…was just getting ready to send an email to hgtv before she was eliminated that I could not watch any longer if they kept her around; awful designer; no sense of style; arrogant and not tv material; could not have possibly watched a show she was host of….go home Cathy and learn how to bring your ball and play with others…..what sense of entitlement do you have and who would have had her on T V for 20 years as she claimed???She's not TV material. Her self absorbtion was her selfdestruction. Thank heavens the staff saw it now…she should have been gone much earlier!!

BGH on August 22, 2011 at 12:09 am
    • Yess! If they would possibly bring her back again I would never watch the show again…guaranteed!

      Barb H. on August 22, 2011 at 12:12 am
    • I am so glad she is gone also. In her own words "I'm Shocked" she was on the show so long. BIG ego, LITTLE talent.

Tracy on August 22, 2011 at 5:15 pm
  4. Monday I was praying that she went home. She literally thought she was the head designer and they were her assistance. great public speaker but her design style was very generic and lacked creativity.

sherry on August 17, 2011 at 10:35 am
  5. Finally……………………………She can design for more magazines now!!!!!

DAN on August 17, 2011 at 10:42 am
    • Magazines which will see a SHARP decline in sales when she's in them!

Jahosacat on August 17, 2011 at 7:55 pm
      • yes….that is why she couldn' t name them…..I hope someone can find out which ones had the nerve to use her as a designer!!!!!!!!!

danny on August 17, 2011 at 9:42 pm
  6. YESSSSS!!!!! I am so happy to see her go home! She was way too arrogant and condescending to be on the show. I would NOT watch her. I'm sure she treats her clients the same way. I'm sure she is really talented but it is overshadowed by her attitude and lack of openness to working along with others. She needs to learn how to adjust herself and balance her emotions and professionalism. It's not all about her.

SavyJackson on August 17, 2011 at 10:49 am
    • I agree with everything you said about Cathy. Because of her I didn't enjoy watching the shows. I am also SOOOO glad that she is gone. Everyone who was associated with her in the design was let go when it was she who should have gone long ago. I have never commented on anything before but this — I had to say something. GoodBye Cathy.

Mimi on August 18, 2011 at 9:05 am
    • i totally agree with everything you have said. i would have probably not kept watching with
that women still on. she was a b–ch!

pam on August 18, 2011 at 11:04 pm
    • I agree she was way to arrogant! She unfortunately doesn't see how she comes across. On the kitchen episode where Carl and Cathy were paired up, Carl fought for he wanted, but he had to do the back splash otherwise the would both go down. Carl got blamed for not standing up to Cathy which was so unfair! In evaluation Carl explained the true story, and Cathy said it was the first time he said something about the styling. The judges didn't seem to notice that Cathy was making everybody CRAZY! As Leslie said, "Cathy won't let me breathe!" If you're gonna have your own show you have to work with others well! And you have to be likable! Cathy thought that she was the boss and the other contestants were her workers! No contestant liked working with Cathy!

iluvsprinkles on August 19, 2011 at 2:57 am
    • True, She is all about herself.

Margie Hayes on August 20, 2011 at 3:55 pm
    • I agree with eveything you said. I love watching this show and couldn't wait until Cathy went home. I wouldn't want her as my designer and like you, I WOULD NOT WATCH her show.

wilmasettles on August 22, 2011 at 12:17 pm
  7. I thought it was especially ironic that Cathy got the boot on this wedding show — after she went ON AND ON AND ON AND ON about how she was published in 3 national magazines for her wedding design work. LOL!! That was priceless.

She proved what an arrogant, self centered, egotistical witch she truly is. I thought Carl was on the chopping block and wasn't going to be surprised if he was let go — but I cheered when it was Cathy!!!! Wooo Hoooo.

Debbie on August 17, 2011 at 11:03 am
    • I totally agree!!!!! I was wooo hoo also!

Kathryn on August 18, 2011 at 3:59 pm
    • I agree . All through the show I kept thinking 'If I have to hear about her "3 national magazines" again, I think I will just turn this show off" Thanks to the judges. They surely made the right decision this week.

Sandi on August 18, 2011 at 5:27 pm
    • I would like to know what the name of those THREE NATIONAL MAGAZINES are so I can make sure I don't subscribe to them. She was so full of herself that she can't see her own faults.

stephanie on August 18, 2011 at 9:29 pm
    • I agree. I wanted to see her show that she could deliver at the wedding reception. Damn I'm a school teacher and do interior decorating on the side. I would have done a much better job than that. Why is it always the case with the black designers on this show that they are sooooo arrogant ? HGTV are you looking for those contestants, so you can say "We will not be producing your show"? As a Black woman, I'm wondering! I watch every show that comes on HGTV and I would love to see you do a show about everyday people who have the Natural talent to design a room without to designing education, just the natural talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        Sunshine451 on August 19, 2011 at 7:12 pm
    • I too thought Carl would be gone. Also so happy it was Cathy to go. She refused to work with anyone. It was evident in every challenge. I'd begun to wonder about the judges, but they really do see it all. They gave her more than enough rope to hang herself. It was so good to see such an arrogant, bossy person put in her place even if she refused to receive it, everyone else saw it. Bravo judges. Best cancelation ever!!

guest on August 19, 2011 at 6:26 pm
    • Amen to that sister! I clapped so hard when she got the boot that my hands hurt! It was a good night!

      Sunshine451 on August 19, 2011 at 7:00 pm
    • LOL you negative posters don't get it, reality shows always cast someone who is strong and outspoken to stir up controversy. It wouldn't be entertaining if there wasn't someone wasn't in the cast to dislike, LOL, hence your comments on this board!

barney on August 21, 2011 at 12:19 am
    • Part of the appeal of HGTV is the hosts; they are genuine and approachable as well as having a good eye. From day 1 Cathy's arrogance was beyond belief. She never wanted to work with others, and every week in her camera challenges they told her to show more of herself. I am sorry she didn't go sooner, to be honest.

      Chryssa P on August 22, 2011 at 10:04 pm
  8. How arrogant can one be? She doesn't have a clue and my guess is she never will. I would love to see what she had published "in three national magazines"! Were two of them Jack n Jill and Highlights? I try not to judge people, but it was really hard not to with Kathy. I think she needs to go back to news casting. She seemed to be much better at that.

Cheryl on August 17, 2011 at 11:11 am
    • Liked the Highlights and Jack 'n Jill suggestions. I was thinking more along the lines of MAD Magazine, the National Inquirer ("My Wedding was Planned by a Blind Martian") or Failed Design Monthly. Does she really think she is fooling us when she goes all wide-eyed on us? Quite frankly, I don't think there was nearly enough "back stabbing" going on. For the most part, when they were in front of the judges, the other designers showed Herculean temperance by NOT dishing up all of her attitude. The problem with this woman is that she cannot have peers when she works. From her prospective, all of the other designers were there to be her minions with her calling the shots. Except when the design was poor, of course, then someone else must have sneaked something in while she wasn't looking.

Katherine on August 18, 2011 at 4:33 pm
    • Hey Jack n Jill as well as highlights has high standards – she'd never make the grade!

AceVentura on August 18, 2011 at 9:43 pm
    • I'd have a hard time watching her do anything on TV. Maybe she could do voice-overs or radio, but it would probably be difficult for her to keep from tooting her own horn.

      PJ510 on August 20, 2011 at 11:54 pm
    • Cathy, after watching the shows, you obviously came off as a control freak who seemed so full of herself and bragging that it really turned people off. Also, I did not think that any of your ideas or designs were anything special. My opinion is that after the kitchen show, you should have been eliminated. It was a cluttered mess, a staging overkill. Good luck on your future in the world of design. You'll need it!

Joanne on August 22, 2011 at 11:13 am
    • NEWSCASTING?!!!!! Who can stand to look at this woman?! Certainly not me … I won't be watching ANYTHING she is on … she needs to be BEHIND the camera …

JawjaPeach on August 23, 2011 at 3:50 pm
  9. I have to agreed with all of the above comments. Cathy was far too condensing, arrogant and did not work well with others. The judges alluded to all in some way each week but Oh! Cathy truly didn't heed those comments and knew better than they as she was afterall published for her own wedding in three magazine. Big Hoop-dee-doo!

Now maybe Carl and the others can show what they truly have to offer but judging from the trailer for next week's show, someone is in for it.

Nelle Walker on August 17, 2011 at 11:21 am

110% Could not stand her………….she should have gone after the 1st week.

Joyce on August 18, 2011 at 3:39 pm
    • someone has to be in for it! can only be one winner. usually though you feel sad or sorry for the person who's let go. not so with cathy. she was far too arrogant and unwilling to work with anyone but herself.

  10. What backstabbing is she referring to? Meg really did try to ask her what flowers she wanted, and she was ignoring her! The Sweetheart table was her "baby", so she should have taken the initiative to dictate the flowers. That wasn't Meg's job and Meg just told the judges what happened. This lady is so delusional.

Lauren on August 17, 2011 at 11:32 am
    • After all her bragging on the sweetheart table, I really expected better.

Brena on August 18, 2011 at 3:43 pm
    • I agree. I saw no backstabbing whatsoever. I think she is delusional and is just thinking they are out to get her, simply because she has too much pride to see past the end of her own nose. I honestly rooted for her to be gone for a long while, because I would not want to watch a show where the designer was at odds with everyone she was working with, and possibly even the clients! That's more for Jerry Springer than HGTV.

Diane on August 19, 2011 at 6:39 pm
    • YES, MEG HELPED HER OUT AND WE SEE HOW CATHY INSULTED HER FOR IT……..BACKSTABBING????????

danny on August 20, 2011 at 11:58 am
    • I also wonder how she got the idea that she was backstabbed. I saw nothing of this behavior at all! As noted in a previous post…she must be from another planet. BTW her designs were ALL awful! I kept thinking "my goodness, if this is good design, I must be a designer and not know it". How did she even get on this show?

liz on August 20, 2011 at 6:29 pm
      • That's one of the funniest comments posted!

        PJ510 on August 21, 2011 at 12:03 am
