  1. Is it too early to wish Karl and Meg could have a show together!? Meg's personality is infectious while Karl has such a wonderful aptitude for design that would bring some affordable and fresh ideas into the lives of "common Americans." These two compliment each other and they both work well together.
Mark is great, he has beautiful ideas and seems to be a skilled craftsman (or have the ability to tell others what he'd like to see created…can anyone say, modern take on Woodwright's shop!? I'd love to see this!

    • Chicago Style, with Karl and Meg… designing apartments for local voters like Michael Mouse and G. Zilla! ;p Or maybe "The Chicago Way–they put one of your original design elements on E-bay, you put one of theirs in the municipal dump!"

I do agree. They'd do well together. Alas, the show doesn't work like that.

I'd love to see Mark doing a wood craft show. I'd also like to see the winner of the handyman contest get a show.

BuffaloBarbara on August 30, 2011 at 2:40 pm
    • Exactly!!!! What a perfect match. Her skill at re-purposing combined with his manipulation of common items into art would be a complete winner.

Debra on August 30, 2011 at 6:42 pm
    • Remember how terrible for the camera David Bromstad was when he won? Please….he had so much help after his win that HGTV did an entire episode on how all kinds of professionals worked with him on his appeal for the camera. Mark is the most talented of the 3. Forget stage fright…..remember, David?

Mercy on August 31, 2011 at 12:24 pm
      • Oh please not Meg – so annoying!!

TwoCents on August 31, 2011 at 5:47 pm
    • Agree! I was thinking the same thing — that Karl and Meg would be great together. And I fear that otherwise neither would get enough viewers on their own to keep a show on the air. I like Mark, but I don't want to see every interior turned into a mountain lodge. On the HGTV'd episode, he used way too much wood, and the homeowner looked disappointed in that room (but pleased with the living room). But in the dining room, Mark had a wood floor, a wood table, a wood cabinet, wood chairs (I think), and then he put even more wood vertically on part of a wall. That was all in addition to the vertical wood room divider on the other side of the dining room. Enough is enough.

    • What a wonderful idea! I've been splitting my votes between the two of them all season. They both have great talent and they compliment each other both in talent and personality.

Meg & Karl have also grown SO MUCH since the first show of the season. In everything they do it's obvious that they are listening to critiques and taking them to heart.

      Go Karl & Meg!!!

  2. Think you need to bring Kellie back! Could not believe that a few weeks ago the judges were saying that she was one that knew what good design was about! I loved her wall art! Marks was horrible! His room was messy with no cohesive design at all! Don't get it at all! So what was so granny about Kellie's design? Because it was not cluttered?

jan smythe on August 30, 2011 at 11:03 am
    • The judges are always contradicting themselves, so I wouldn't take much that they say too seriously.

      Mark G on August 30, 2011 at 1:33 pm
    • I thought Kellie's disregard of clients' wishes last week was bad enough, but she would rude to Genevieve. She was my favorite for a time. Perhaps she was tired, but her attitude needed adjustment. Sorry I do not agree that she needs to come back!

NC girl on August 30, 2011 at 2:59 pm
      • I don't think she was rude, she just made a statement before answering yes or no…Those judges are just people…What they say or feel doesn't mean it's factual, it's just their view point.

        Mark G on August 30, 2011 at 3:44 pm
    • I AGREE

Maddie on August 30, 2011 at 5:33 pm
    • I agree. But the judges just went head-over-heels about his books being the shelves. I actually thought that was a lousy idea. I could not be bothered with that, especially if I wanted to read that book and there was an ornament or a toy on it. Forget it.

mercy on August 31, 2011 at 12:26 pm
      • There are alot of people out there that keep books because of the color of the cover or binding. I also know people that just don't like to get rid of them because they were a past family memebers or had some meaning to them at some point in there life but it may not be a book they sit and read or need to refer to. I think this is an excelent idea for those dusty or boxed up books.

        S.lyleStyle on September 1, 2011 at 1:56 pm
    • I agree, BRING KELLIE BACK NOW!!! I personally think just because she had the nerve to second guess Gen that it made the whole panel vote against her. Kellie has the perfect design skills between the regular person and the ultra rich. Gen only does what she wants, does anyone remember the different color wainscotting that Gen. done on her show, which was about the ugliest thing I have ever seen on HGTV, bet the people on that show have painted over the wainscotting, I would have. Don't think I will watch the rest of design star. Good luck to you Meg, I hope you go all the way.

Shirley on September 1, 2011 at 2:48 pm
    • I didn't think her curtains looked that bad, but maybe they photographed better than they looked in person. Also, maybe the judges thought she lacked foresight in not remembering to buy curtains.

Moonbeam on September 1, 2011 at 9:02 pm
  3. I agree with David 100%. Wishing all three of the remaining designers the BEST of Luck!!!!!!!

Alexis on August 30, 2011 at 11:09 am
  4. Biggest Disaster – Kellie's hodgepodge of styles, mess of a room. Hate to say it – she was the worst this week. Camera and design. The judges did what they had to do. Loved to see Karl get more comfortable in the camera challenge. He really stepped it up this week. Go Karl!

shassy on August 30, 2011 at 11:17 am
  5. So sad to see Kellie go home. I liked her spoon, clock inspired, wall art and her stools. One of the other designers didn't even put stools at their bar and it looked so bare. She had some very creative ideas. I'm glad I found her website though, I can follow her there. All the remaining designers have had some good design ideas and executions so I'm looking forward to seeing their designs in the coming weeks. May the best man/woman win.

Colleen on August 30, 2011 at 11:40 am
  6. Meg is my first choice, because of her camera personality and her ability to follow thru on her projects. Her taste and thought process are wonderful. Karl would be fine, he just has to brush up on his confidence. Karl has no concept about time.

REGINA LATTIER on August 30, 2011 at 12:06 pm
    • DID YOU MEAN MARK HAS NO CONCEPT OF TIME?

GUEST on August 30, 2011 at 12:09 pm
    • Her voice gets on my nerves.

mercy on August 31, 2011 at 12:27 pm
      • And as the judges would say, I question her taste level…

AgreeWithMercy on August 31, 2011 at 5:50 pm
  7. Enjoyed seeing what they did with their small budget and am looking forward to next week. One little comment…I liked the covered bar stools that Kellie did. That would certainly make them easier for sitting. I remember Emily covered a foot stool with a rug last year and the judges raved about that, too.

Mary on August 30, 2011 at 12:38 pm
    • Loved the stools so much that I went out and bought little apple green rugs and covered the chairs of an old maple table I just inherited! Thanks Kellie!

Babs on August 31, 2011 at 12:13 pm
  8. I agree with the choices made on these would be design stars . Kellie was sweet but no real design style. Mark is too "scattered" and tries to do too much. Karl is very good if he will just "up" his self confidence. Meg is good and presents well. I think it is a tie as of episode 8 with Karl and Meg.

jodytoo on August 30, 2011 at 12:40 pm
    • I believe Karl has hidden design skills,if he would just get past his fears and just go with it.
Meg is also a great Designer.

      Linda C on August 30, 2011 at 1:01 pm
      • I think you're right. You know what is interesting to me? Some of the ones who make it on the show don't go on to great things with their own shows later. I can think of a couple of winners that were given shows but they just didn't have the "charisma" or something to hold an audience later. I can't recall their names.

jodytoo on August 30, 2011 at 1:56 pm
    • I love Karl's designs, he has done something great every week. Meg has a perky personality but has been inconsistent in her designs and bringing them to completion, some weeks have been good others not so good. I love Mark's design ideas but he doesn't always execute them to completion either. I think Karl is the strongest contestant in his consistent delievery of style. He also did a great job on his T.V. challenge on Nate's show, he needs to bring it again next week both in design and presentation. I wish the best to all 3 designers, it is clear they all have a future whatever the outcome of this show.

Sharon on August 31, 2011 at 5:00 pm
  9. Hey David, since when has it been o.k. not to finish a project on D.S.? It used to be the priorty criteria, yet Mark keeps skating by week. If the rules are going to change then bring back Tyler.

CharlesD on August 30, 2011 at 12:52 pm
    • That's what bugs me the most, these judges will chastise one person for doing something, then totally ignore it when somebody else does the same exact thing.

      Mark G on August 30, 2011 at 1:23 pm
    • Forget it about it. This show is all rigged. All the judges and commentators (david, emily and candice) are all conveying very similar messages about who they think is great like they are stepford wives or something. Kind of scary yet predictable on TV. I think I'm giving up on watching HGTV for the most part. My addiction is about to be cut short. Can't take it anymore. Done.

      fanfair123 on August 30, 2011 at 2:36 pm
      • Unfortunately, I'm beginning to agree! Mark has mismanaged his time over and over again, and yet the judges think his designs are great and keep him rather than give him the boot. (Remember his first challenge with the terrible looking beds? And that rope ladder in a later challenge was such a joke!) I get the feeling that the decision was made long ago to select Mark and his woodworking for the next design show. TOO BAD! It will bring in about as many viewers as Antonio's. What Mark has shown America is that he is not multidimensional. I wouldn't want him to design for me. But Meg – I'd take in a heartbeat!

disappointed on August 30, 2011 at 4:39 pm
    • In this case, I think it was that Mark's room didn't have a finished "feel," not that it was left (as in previous seasons) with half-done projects that HGTV would have to go in and fix. (Backsplash wars!)

BuffaloBarbara on August 30, 2011 at 2:46 pm
  10. I'm curious, how many of you watch any of these people's shows after they win, and if you do, which shows do you watch?

I can honestly say I only watch Davids show and started watching Emily…I don't know where Kim Myles went, but I don't really care for Antonio's designs, they are just too gaudy and out there for me.

    Mark G on August 30, 2011 at 12:54 pm
    • Thanks, Kim Myles was the one I was trying to remember. And I agree with you on Antonio. I think sometimes there just isn't enough people watching their show and they kind of fade into cyberspace. (I wouldn't feel too bad about Antonio., sorry.)

jodytoo on August 30, 2011 at 2:00 pm
    • II love Antonio’s show, it’s the only one I watch consistently, I love his use of color and the fact that he thinks outside the box. I would love to see Karl be this season’s winner; I would definitely watch his show.

Morgan on August 30, 2011 at 2:03 pm
      • I watch Antonio consistently also. He is brilliant and fun to watch. I love him!!! I have given Emily a chance and DVR her shows but find that I don't really watch them. I'm not sure if it's her or the format, but something isn't working for me. I will probably stop recording them soon. David B. is great but I don't really watch his shows. I should record them and see if I wind up watching them.

I agree that Karl should win. I do like Meg but I think Karl has a bigger wow factor.

Tricia on September 6, 2011 at 8:53 am
    • I watch David's. Some of Emily's. Have seen one or two of Antonio's. All the shows appeal to different people with different tastes, so I'm OK with it. I don't have to watch Antonio's show but if there are people who like it then glad they enjoy.

You don't have to agree but I like David B's and Todd Davis on room crashers for the new stuff and Candice for long time shows from time to time. But I respect her thoughts as a designer. Other occasional viewings I appreciate are the curb appeal the block, property bros., income property and holmes inspection. they are intelligent shows that talk dollars or real fixing that happens. I will NEVER watch Donna and Dina. Sorry not my thing.

      fanfair123 on August 30, 2011 at 2:47 pm
      • I like David, but not I'm not that CrAzY about Todd…He needs to tone down his hyperactivity…I did like what Casey did yesterday on the revamped Design On A Dime…I was wondering though, with her taking over that show, does that mean all the other Design On A Dime people are now out of jobs?

        Mark G on August 30, 2011 at 3:40 pm
        • It seems in the that they probably had a couple of different hosts per season for diversity. But I noticed that no one ever lasts a long time hosting that show. Span seems to be about 2 years maybe 3 at most. Not sure what they are doing with Design on a Dime currently. And Todd is definitely high energy. That is true. But I love how he finds things to repurpose. Not a lot of designers do that on HGTV, unless you're watching Design on a Dime type of show.

          fanfair123 on August 30, 2011 at 4:32 pm
        • Yeah, I really dug Casey's creativity on Design on a Dime. I espcieally loved the bicycle rim table, the barn wood coffee table and the ombre'd window treatments.

argyle on August 31, 2011 at 12:07 am
      • Oh and I like Sarah's show Design, Inc. and the Novogratz too. Novogratz, have some very bold ideas going, some of which I would not do. But for the most part they are fun to watch. (ie- they put a slide next to the stairs going down to a basement in a family room reno.) Very fun! I would to that.

        fanfair123 on August 30, 2011 at 3:41 pm
        • The Novogratz's design is way over the top. It would be cool in a bed and breakfast or coffee house, but it's just too much to live with day to day.

argyle on August 31, 2011 at 1:15 am
          • I respect your opinion and you are right. They are over the top. But some of their designs are very well done. I wouldn't mind seeing some of it in my home. I think design aethestics is very personal and there's room for individuals to like what they want. I wouldn't want over the top all of the place where I live. But I think it's nice to have a surprise moment in part of the home that is unexpected and tastefully done. And it's just fun to watch what they do because it's so different. Some it is just for the entertainment factor ;)

            fanfair123 on August 31, 2011 at 3:01 am
      • What is HGTV thinking? I saw the "sneak" preview of Donna's show and she just tanked over the husband and spent and spent and spent. The results were tacky. She looked like a lovely blonde from Dallas whose husband set her up in a design studio so she could have something to do. I keep trying to remember if she was on Design Star and how good/bad she was. And since I wouldn't watch any of the "housewives of …" I'm not going to watch one of them show me how to plan a party. Please.

Decorator Gal on September 7, 2011 at 12:21 pm
    • I watch David and Emily's shows — Emily's is my favorite. I've seen Antonio's a couple times but it's not my favorite. I liked Kim, don't know why she disappeared. But whatever happened to that blond woman who won the 3rd season? She completely dropped off the map, I don't think she ever even had a show even for a short time. (Not that I minded, she never wowed me. Can't remember her name.)

Sarah on August 30, 2011 at 3:17 pm
      • I was going to ask about her…Someone said she ended up having a baby with special needs…The thing is she was on the Design Star competing against her Husband, you would have thought she would have taken the show and had her Husband provide the care to their baby…Oh well none of my business, everyone has to make choices, but it seems strange to just walk away from something you both were after.

        Mark G on August 30, 2011 at 3:36 pm
        • Someone said in an earlier post that she had a baby but that the baby was also a special needs child. I think I read somewhere she is looking to come back. Jennifer something is her name. Also an artist like David B.

          fanfair123 on August 30, 2011 at 3:44 pm
    • I watched Kim Myles but soon lost interest because of all the crafty accesories. You will not find a light fixture with a shade made of paper clips in my house! Antonio is just too over the top. I don't watch David regularly becasue his "color splashes" are just too much for me.! David I love your personality, can you do color without blinding me? Emily who? Now Todd Davis who was runner-up to Kim Myles, his new show "Room Crashers" is OK in my book. Don't like everything but gain good ideas and his personality is infectious. He makes me smile! My favs are Candice, Sarah Richardson, John Gidding and Lisa LaPorta. They got it going on!

      2thFairy on August 30, 2011 at 3:42 pm
    • Love to watch David and Nate's show! Antonio and Emily need to combine their shows into one disastrous half time want to be designers show. The Novagrats, both need a trip to the beauty salon and get rid of the good will clothes. Their design is very similar to their overall appearance!

Nena on August 30, 2011 at 5:01 pm
    • I absolutely love David's designs. He always brings it to the table. Antonio is fantastic. He does the unexpected that works. I would love to have him tackle my living room.

Wilhelmina on August 30, 2011 at 6:47 pm
    • Mark, I find emily's show scattered and hard to follow, shouldn't have to concentrate on this fluff stuff, and her voice verges on chain saw quality. notice now there is a voice over at the end…new? problem of the show may well be the producer and what hgtv assigned her. she's not wearing well. david shines, watch antonio some, personality is not as grating as it was in the competition, but his designs are interesting, seldom would i want it in my house, his 'life style' is surely not mine. kim didn't have it in the long run, little depth. kelly in current competition i think would have eventually grated also, started listening to her voice and thot i couldnt tolerate it for a whole show. the personality has to wear well, along with design depth. think Meg might pull that off

      pat r. on August 31, 2011 at 2:25 pm
      • You know I don't really understand the painting then repainting of the space, and all the redecorating she does, but the spaces in the end usually look decent.

        Mark G on August 31, 2011 at 7:24 pm
        • Emily was trying to show a couple how the room would look if it were done in only one person's style, usually the wife first. Then the wife sees she doesn't really like a room done to extreme in what she thought was her style. Emily then shows how she brings the husband's taste into the room to combine the styles. I notice that the new format for her show is that she only does the room once, and she shows how she shops for the things that will blend the styles. She has more time to explain her thinking behind each item. I almost always love the results (except for one episode where the man wanted to keep his big leather sectional but Emily replaced it). However, we don't see behind-the-scenes where she probably got permission to remove it by showing him how it would not fit with the new design. At his request, Emily was doing the room for him and his girlfriend because she was moving in with him.

Moonbeam on September 1, 2011 at 9:13 pm
    • I wonder where Kim went, too. I watch all their shows – if I miss Antonio's, so be it. Emily is better than I thought she'd be – but not a favorite designer.

TJS on August 31, 2011 at 5:48 pm
      • Kim was very innovative and I liked her results. But something bothered me a bit about her show and I couldn't pinpoint it. Then a poster on this thread hit the nail on the head: it was too "arts and craftsy." Some of those crafty things she showed the householder how to do were boring and they were not things I would ever take the time to do. But when she designed with minimal householder participation, she and her carpenter (Tony?) were fabulous. I miss her show. Love Emily's show, though, and get so upset when I plan to watch on a Saturday night and it's not on.

Moonbeam on September 1, 2011 at 9:16 pm
    • I occasionally watch color splash because of Mr B's personality; his design doesnt match my style. Kim was VERY personable but only saw two episodes I think. I've only seen Emily's responses to this season's designers. The others……I haven't seen, and wasnt aware they even got the show they "won". Two episodes of DS have been followed by shows hosted by runners up of previous seasons, Todd and Casey. I was happy for them! Todd has grown up (and likely had some host skills coaching a la David Bromstad) and Casey was adorable as usual. Good luck everyone!

petlorilea on September 1, 2011 at 4:27 pm
    • I used to watch Color Splash, but David's stuff looks really tacky to me. Liked him better when he was doing lower budget, less ostentatious small apartments in S.F. The Miami look always gets so dated so quick (remember the Architectonic building with the square hole on Miami Vice?). Tried to watch Kim Myles but could never find it. Ditto Jen, Siberian T.V. slots. What gives?

CharlesD on September 1, 2011 at 5:36 pm
    • I am with you about Antonio's designs. I wonder if that bringing stuff to the client in a shopping bag (Kim Myles) just didn't go over with viewers. I liked her work on Design Star. And where is Alice? She was David's competition. Not liking David's show in Miami. I guess I miss Ian and Claire and Danielle. Sigh.
