  1. Karl is the man for this job….although Meg is niiiice, she loves what she does but her voice makes me want to keep clearing my throat! I love Karl's enthusiasm, his nervousness is actually endearing so I would just love to see him win this; he is really the better designer! I'm thinking Mark is clearly not the package we need to see, just not quite talented, sorry to say.

    • I'm with you…Karl has consistently shown that he has the vision. His designs are classic without being stuffy. He always finishes…a big plus. His personality is definitely endearing..he seems very real, easy to relate to. Who wouldn't be nervous in front of all those cameras. He never seems to realize how good he is. I find it refreshing that he doesn't think he's done all that well but we keep seeing cohesive design with a universal appeal…GO KARL!

  2. A big part of the judging is there camera challenge…. Meg & Karl rocked the design and camera challenge this week… I think Kellie has a hard time with the camera challenges and having a bad week the week before that did it for her. Unless Mark rocks his camera challenge this week & his design I'm afraid he'll be next .. which is a bummer I like him. The next show should be interesting…. I think all 3 are Amazing.

  3. Something Karl said bothered me a lot – he said he is used to designing with million dollar+ budget, so he didn't know how to handle having only $2500… I want to watch a show where the host shows how to make things that look expensive, but are easy on the budget! Maybe a Meg + Mark hosted show would be a nice balance!!

    • Actually, he DID say he knew how to spend the money on one of the candid camera clips. He said this is where smart design comes into play. It's like putting together an expensive shirt and some cheap pants, but still make it look good. Stop trying to take Karl down and if you got a criticism, make sure you get your facts straight. He's used to million dollar budgets but he worked with a $2,500 one just fine. And he's a working man who put himself through professional school (remember the tiling? hello)

  4. Read Kellie's blog on her website about no bunk beds and it makes sense. She said he has them now. Her blog is interesting reading.

  5. Design crime is not a new idea. Nate uses it on his show. And I hate the word moditional.

  6. Am I the only one who wonders if the show is rigged? The judges and producers tell designers when to suck and don't treat the designers they want to win as harshly as they do the others. I just feel as though you know exactly who's going to win at this point – Meg. The only reason is b/c she's got a different personality from the hosts they already have. They eliminate the ones that are too similar to other designers.

Emily on August 31, 2011 at 12:02 pm
    • I hate to say it. But I think you are right. Look who they chose the past two years – Antonio and Emily. Though I have to say that in the past, the uniqueness in personality also came out in their designs and how they presented their ideas during the challenges. It hasn't been just based on a different personality. And Meg's ideas have not been that original or that good. So I would have to wonder if they really will pick her at the end. Those of us at home certainly aren't wow'd by her creations – It doesn't even stir up controversy in terms of a 'crazy' design (like antonio did) and Emily had a quirky style about her and she always had a point of view that was clear – the way you dress yourself can be used to dress your room. What exactly does Meg have? design crime? That's not new!!! Most of the criticism about here is that she has a messy design that's just all over the place. She doesn't have the talent to go with her personality.

  7. Mark currently does have a problem with timing, Karl is a cry baby when he does not get his way, Meg is not original. I agree with a lot of the statements above that she is boring. I hated the big baskets and the aweful molding shelves. So cheap. Kellie needed to go – to not give that boy the bunk beds was just plain wrong. A kids room should be functional, a bunk bed gives space for a friend to spend the night. The customer does know what they really want. Mark has my vote of the remaining three. Karl I would never watch – his hissy fits do not appeal to me. Watching commercials would be more interesting then watching Meg. Though at this point, they all could be thrown out and HGTV would be just fine without any of them.

    • Certainly don't agree with you re. Karl. He has a very charming personality that comes across as genuine. Really don't remember any "hissy fits" or being a "cry baby.

  8. Meg: Did not like the brackets that showed. And how does one climb waaaaay up to those shelves to put things on and dust them. I mean, who, in an apartment bldg. has a really tall ladder to do that all the time? Table drawing—ehh—not that interesting. But, did well with the audience.

Mark: I like minimalism and I don't have "art" on every wall in my house. I liked his funky shelves. I liked th look of the silver lamp, but would have used spray paint instead—it would last and be a LOT easier.

Kellie: Rugs on stools—not soft, not cushy–they LOOKED like rugs on stools.

Karl: Did a nice presentation job.

  9. When Kellie replied to Genevieve 'what is beautiful to you" , I knew that was the end for her. Karl's microphone chat was the best, but his feminine hands actions and bawling like a little girl , wont make me watch his shows if he is the winner..sorry. Personally, i dont think any of them has the talent to have their own show…very disappointing this year.

    • I so agree with you! I like Karl's humility, but his mannerisms remind too much of Michael, the runner up in the last season. I was so relieved when Emily won (her glass house was great). Michael had done some good work too, but he was just too over the top emotionally, like crying when he was tired and in general just too effeminate. D-Bro is always dignified, as is Mr. Gidding (whose first name I can't recall right now). Mark would annoy me if he continues to be so scattered that he can't manage time and keeps imposing his love of wood on other people. Like one poster on another thread put it so well, he doesn't want to see Mark turn interiors into what look like the inside of an outhouse. Meg has a pleasing personality, but I don't know how consistent she would be. I liked her vertical molding, and her room in general I thought was the best. Also liked Karl's shelves, but little else. The thing I liked most that Mark did was the white room challenge. If he'd bring that to a show of his own rather than shoving wood down our throats, I would be okay with that. But in general, I would not miss any of them and I rather doubt from what I've seen that the winner will get the ratings to stay on the air for long.

  10. While I like Meg's personality, I have to say that I hated the design she did this week. In fact, I felt it was the worst of the four and I didn't care much for either Kellie's or Mark's. The vertical molding closed in the room and made it look much smaller. Her color palette was fine but aside from that it didn't work for me at all. Given the sum of her camera challenge and her design, however, I was fine with Kellie going – though I would not have been disappointed had it been Mark.
