  1. I was hoping Mark would win. He has fantastic ideas, although the belts didn't quite do it for me. He is so likeable and would have been wonderful to watch. Meg not so much. Karl does wonderful work, so hope he wins the final.

    • The best thing about Mark was his smile but it too got boring. he always had exactly the same look on his face. I Think he got as far as he did because of his looks. he was a catastrophe when it came to organization!

      • I agree with both of your comments. Meg, for me at least, is a bit hard to watch with her over the top hyperness and arm flailing. Her designs are good, but not great, there is always something that lacks thought.
Mark had great ideas, but as someone else said – he got too hung up on one aspect and forgot about the rest untill the last minute. Too bad he made such a weird design with the belts that ended up fragmenting the space. On the other hand, he is very steady in his camera challenges andwould be a bit boring to watch, if he got a show of his own. I think he'd be good in a group show where he could take one thing to design and focus on it – that he could be great at.
I think Karl has the best potential for a good hoas, as his designs are well thought out and executed (i loved his tiny house – the color vas a bit overwhelming, but still it created a spacial division between the kitchen and the lounge area). The only thing holding him back is his camera presence, but he seems to be improving greatly. I believe he'd be a great host after some more camera experience and a little bit of coaching.

Either way, I wish them bost good luck!

  2. All three are appealing people and creative in their designs but:
MARK had an air of panic and uncertainty about his process and some of his original uses of materials bordered on "home crafter" level…(the belts and stripes??!!)
MEG's camera challenges have been praised but to me they have felt fraught and frantic. Her shoulders are tense and her speed is uncomfortable. She does not convey really useful information.
KARL is the outstanding one. He has a gentleness which makes him easy to watch. His camera challenges are actually packed tight with useful information, though his mode of delivery is direct and conversational. His designs have strength and logic. and I would feel very safe following his recommendations.

  3. Really David? Are you telling us HGTV is looking for a sales rep on Design Star? Who cares if Meg can ‘sell’??? We want to see a talented designer giving us reliable and creative designs. Sigh… And no, if your point is that make is tv friendly. She yells at us and looks like she’s going to jump out of the tv, ‘in your face’ style. No thanks.

  4. Talented designers, good people, but, honestly, who would you rather watch–Karl or Mark? The judges made a mistake–a potentially costly one–on this elimination.

    • I would rather watch KARL.

SharonAgape on September 6, 2011 at 7:41 pm
      • I don't think it was Candice or Vern. Genevieve and David never have a nice comment for him. David didn't even make eye contact when he "mentor" him. I notice that he didnt like Mark from the beginning. They are neighbors in South Florida. That might explained it!

marie on September 7, 2011 at 1:09 am
      • Agree with you. Would much rather watch Karl over Mark.

sharon on September 7, 2011 at 10:53 pm
      • I would also rather watch KARL!!

Lee on September 8, 2011 at 1:30 pm
    • totally agree, think the judges made a huge mistake. Meg is annoying, Karl is okay, butk Mark always has a smile on his face, fun to watch.

  5. I appreciate all the designers. Karl did make the tiny house liveable. Meg, has an eye for repurposing objects, and Mark is very talented, however he did not make an impression with the belts. Does it really matter who wins? David is the only Design Star Winner that I know has their own show. Is there others?
I stopped watching for awhile, to many House Hunters etc, in the evenings. Assume the creative ideas are shown during the day time.

    pj+1 on September 6, 2011 at 12:33 pm
    • There are several others Design Stars. I remember Antonio from last season. I did not care for him but he has turned out some pretty good work. The others I can't remember their name but they have been on a few times. Do not know what happen to them. Either way, I still like David also.

    • I wonder how many of us will have to complain about too many House Hunters, etc, in the evenings (and Sunday afternoons as well) before HGTV realizes we want design and NOT adventures in real estate. Most of the houses are dumps and the people that have the least to spend whine the most!

Sandra on September 6, 2011 at 1:55 pm
    • Antonio has a show, Kim Myles has a show, Emily Henderson has a show….. David has been the most successful Design Star winner.

  6. A TINY HOUSE??? That was a ridiculous challenge! What was that for??? I will not be watching if they choose Meg! she is just a mediocre want-to-be designer, Meg's green was just awfuluglyhorrible all in one! and that voice!!! I can't stand this "sale's people" that "will sale you anything on TV". Karl and Mark not only are better designers, they are natural and pleasant to look at. They made a mistake with this elimination! Sooooo sorry Mark! YES for KARL!!!

    • I think more of us have tiny houses than have 3000 sq foot houses. I'm HAPPY to see them doing a small house.

  7. Design Star, you've inspired us! Recently married & finally set up our first apartment :) . Enjoy! http://www.beautifuladventure.wordpress.com

  8. Meg's show idea "Design Crimes" is prefect for her, as everything she does is a crime against design. In a perfect world that would be a capital offense.

erikcreature on September 6, 2011 at 1:09 pm
    • OMG. I am getting really pissed off now.

      She IS a Design Crime!
Here are her latest charges and all guilty:
      1) Her bathroom door competed with her front entry door.
      2) Her ladder to the loft bed area was not user-friendly and looked like a book case. (which is sad bc it would have made a nice bookcase but ALL YOU CAN DO IS STARE AT IT EMPTY SINCE THERE'S NO OTHER WAY UP TO THE SLEEPING AREA.
      3) Her stolen idea of a loft bed was not big enough for a grown up to sleep in.
      4) The built in shelves did nothing to provide additional storage.
      5) AND she hung plants upside down! Who does that? Really?
      6) Not ONE, single comfortable space to sit in with all that 'airy' space she created. Not one!

pissedoff on September 6, 2011 at 2:51 pm
    • Amen Sister…………………train wreck. It will be a CRIME if she wins. Most likely they like her idea but will execute the designs and ideas for her on the show. Just like they redid her portfolio online (happened about week three). That is the only way they can sell this cookie.

      Rosebud2005 on September 6, 2011 at 5:55 pm
    • Why do you bother watching this show, or HGTV for that matter if everyone on there is so inferior, and not a real designer in you opinion?

      Mark G on September 7, 2011 at 1:21 pm
      • *your opinion

        Mark G on September 7, 2011 at 1:43 pm
      • Oh Mark. You seem like a really smart guy. Haven't you figured it out by now?
The creature is a plant. He playing the role of the 'agitator' kind of like Al Sharpton back in the days. That's his JOB. :p

guest on September 7, 2011 at 2:10 pm
      • As a consumer advocate in the area of design, I am informing HGTV viewers that "Design Star" has nothing to do with design at all. DS is inferior decorating and that's it. It is a clear cut case of deliberate mislabeling.

erikcreature on September 7, 2011 at 3:52 pm
  9. Karl's designs seem more adult and refined to me. What a real person would want. I think Meg's taste has to mature a little and I find her a little to hyper. Her voice is not something she can control and there are people over on the food network with gravelly voices and I watch them because they are good at what they do. Anyway, good luck to both.

lizP on September 6, 2011 at 1:36 pm
  10. If Meg wins this, I will think it is rigged. Her little house was awful. No storage. Nothing. And the green was terrible. She should live in that house for a year and sleep in that tiny bed. Who would want to spend any time in it? She should have been off the show a long ttime ago. ..Karl's design was amazing and very sophisticated. Although Mark's was not his best; overall, he is very endearing as a personality and I think he has great ideas. He certainly should have been in the final two.
