  1. Can't believe that Mark is gone! He's very talented but seems to get too focused on his personal signiture and fails to fulfill the main objective…what a loss :(
I'm really shocked that Meg has made it this far as she has neither a good sense of design or the star quality that SHOULD be HGTV's criteria. I would NOTwatch her if she had a show.
Karl just keeps getting better and better!! He's extremely talented, has a great sense of style, practical design ideas and has star potential when he's relaxed and trusts his talent. GO KARL! You have my vote. Can't wait to see you in your new HGTV show!

  2. I thought Meg's house was the best! Her personality is the best too… at least she has passion and energy where Mark has none! I liked Karl's house too and think he is very talented. Overall I am very happy with the final two but I am rooting for Meg!

    • Me too!

Cathy on September 6, 2011 at 8:59 pm
    • You hit it on the head regarding Mark: I don't think he conveyed passion and energy. I liked him but felt something was missing. I like Meg's personality and a few of the things she did, especially last week and this week. Karl's house was great, too, but he has been a little snarky a few times and also too emotional. I don't want to see mood swings like that. However, I'd watch both their shows, although I fear neither will be on very long unless they do a show together.

    • Finally!! Somebody likes Meg!!!

  3. This is to all the HGTV staff/editors/producers/ and anyone else that cares to read!!!! I would like to know why Emily’s video tape voicing her opinion about the outcome of episode 9 has been cut short TWO (2) whole minutes. Could it be that it was contradictory and controversial to HGTV’S and the Judges winning choice? In the beginning of the segment she is clearly voicing her opinion on Mark’s talent. What was edited out that you do not what the viewers to know? Her video tape CLEARLY ends before she is finished with her comments and that is VERY suspicious!

marilyn on September 6, 2011 at 1:59 pm
    • nah…..Emily was very vocal about her displeasure with Tyler's dismissal. Its likely as simple as home videos aren't the best produced.

  4. Karl – defintely Karl. His little house was well thought out, and I thought the color gave it a big house feel. He also feels like a friend, someone I could trust to understand who I am, and transfer that into any space that I would have him design. My kitchen needs a complete redo, and Karl, from day one, is the one I would trust to do it right. Come on Karl — prove me right!

I agree that Meg couldn't sell me anything. Her sales technique just makes me want to run far away from her flailing arms, raspy voice, and lunging into the camera. She invades MY space. Not comfortable.

Sherry on September 6, 2011 at 2:13 pm
    • I agree with you Sherry. Karl has really grown on me. I think of the two of them (Meg and Karl), Karl has more design and different ideas. Meg seems to do the same thing a lot.

gayle on September 6, 2011 at 2:33 pm
  5. I think Mark has an eye for beautiful interesting design, tho the last couple shows he seemed to be faltering.. I have no idea why… Even his assigned carpenter loved his ideas, tho she shouldn't have made him look bad during the first camera shot of meeting her. I thought he was doing great, until she did that.. it seemed to throw him off his train of thought.

I really disliked the green color in Meg's little house, she sorta decorated it for a child's play house look, instead of a real home to live in. She should have been removed. The bed was ridiculously small, no place to store anything, and the paint colors were awful. I wouldn't be able to live with it..

Karl is nice and had great taste in design, his work is refined and beautiful. He tends to act/copy too much of David's mannerisms… he needs to be himself. The world only needs one David color splash designer.

Irishsnowangel on September 6, 2011 at 3:09 pm
    • The judges said Mark's carpenter "saved" him in that first camera challenge.

Moonbeam on September 7, 2011 at 6:58 pm
      • Apparently his carpenter didn't 'save' him.. or he would still be in the game! :-)

Irishsnowangel on September 7, 2011 at 8:57 pm
      • Yes and Mark agreed.

  6. Dearest Meg,

I want to attempt at offsetting some of the harsh criticism posted here. You seem like a fun person. We might be compatible as friends if I knew you in person. Who knows? You are very confident and seem to have no qualms about getting in front of a TV. However, you must develop a keener eye for design. Palm beach chic is a lovely idea but too specific for its own shown. And I hope you don't do a show called Design Crimes because all the folks who criticize you for your design choices now will have a field day with that theme, waiting for you to fumble on your show.

Being desperate for your own TV show should not be your core motivation for wanting to be the Design Star. You seem good at listening to the judges recommendations. But you cannot bulldoze your way into the hearts and homes of millions of viewers if you come up short on the thing that counts the most, a unique point of view and creative inspirational designs.

I'm sure with some more training and experience you might develop these qualities. You seem more on a path to discovery about who you really are as a designer. I saw that clearly when you struggled with your white room challenge that left Genevieve with a feeling of "creepy" as an end result.

Please don't take it personal that we do not appreciate your designs on DS. We expect a lot from our winner – the whole package. And you are just not up to par (yet) on some of those qualities we, as viewers expect. You are just not ready in IMHO.

    Ltr2_Meg on September 6, 2011 at 3:13 pm
    • I don't think any of us want her to fail, it is just that we don't want to watch her for any length of time and learn nothing in the process.

Meg is probably a nice person, it is nothing personal.

Nancy on September 7, 2011 at 12:29 pm
    • I agree the sad thing is she been saying her desperation to have the show over and over , the judges will give it to her she's a favorite , there maybe a handful of viewers including the producer and the judges and David B go for it guys we may go to the other network for sure Mark will be in one of them I want to be entertained not to be antsy got super hyper kids already I don't need another one funny and they call Meg's camera challenges infectious , can grab the viewers out of their seats , full of energy honestly i can't watch her for a minute IN A SIMPLE WORD IT'S CALLED HYPER not dumb to know the difference of energetic to hyper

Tranquil on September 7, 2011 at 6:25 pm
      • Infectious as in sickening?

Tim on September 7, 2011 at 7:41 pm
        • Well not quite. But in essence it means something like, "spreads like wildfire" so get out your Lysol sprays everyone! Or just switch channels :) LOL!
Too much TV for me. Time to pick up a good book or a good hobby.
If a network like HGTV can't keep me interested (and I come to this channel for quality programming AWAY from the rest of crazy TV), it's time to get back to some page turning! (and it won't be the new hgtv magazine either.) I'm afraid to see a giant photo of Meg in it. No, thanks! Whatever is clever! I'm out.

Joan on September 8, 2011 at 1:10 am
          • LOL I can't help laughing you got it ' like an infectious disease make sure you don't get close to people who have them you might get contacted by it

francis on September 8, 2011 at 8:28 pm
      • You nailed it… shes to hyper in her camera challenges… she does tend to make ya nerved up… I thought it was just me…..

Michelle on September 12, 2011 at 7:49 am
    • i disagree with all of you. PSST Genevieve leaves me feeling a little creepy

Nebraska on September 8, 2011 at 12:17 pm
      • Well, that's fine you can disagree. But that IS what Gen. said on Meg's white room challenge.
Creepy is not not the word I would use to describe how she leaves me feeling. More like blah with a bit of snooty. Creepy is at least somewhat interesting but who wants to feel blah and have the feeling they got their noses up at you? IMO.

guest on September 8, 2011 at 4:44 pm
        • That is exactly how Genevieve leaves me feeling……..I would watch Meg- I will not watch Antonio.

          PS Meg's shop is enchantling.

However you must be one of the PA'rs. Thank you!

Nebraska on September 9, 2011 at 3:04 pm
          • I love Antonio….. he does some really off the wall things…. but they turn our beautiful…….

Michelle on September 12, 2011 at 7:51 am
          • Agreed. Antonio does different but he does it well, unlike Meg.
He knows how to pull it all together and knew how to do that before he ever got on DS.
Didn't need further design help. How pathetic would it be to win the show then have to 'get' design help. Sigh. Here's hoping for the best tonight. Hope Karl wins.

Livi on September 12, 2011 at 1:57 pm
          • You do know they all get some design help right? Candice Olsen, genevieve, Vern, etc don't work alone. PS MEG WON!

Nebraska on September 13, 2011 at 4:28 pm
  7. Really???!! Mark was sent home!!! Really???!! Based on the entire show, he has been the most creative and the only designer who could think outside of the box…literally. Lighting and surfboards for the wedding vs Karl walking away from the Groom's area and joining the flower crew. Mark has the creativity and imagination of a David Bromstad which no one else has. His kitchen was awesome and he sold it well with the apron and invited guests. I remember one year someone saying that the camera skills were teachable. This year, it seems that right after or even while working, the designers were literally thrust right into their camera challenge without a chance to prepare. This was not a fair way to be judged on the camera challenge. I know I won't be watching Meg's show and might try Karl's once or twice. I would have been a great fan of Mark's show if it had happened. So long to the new winner!

Joni on September 6, 2011 at 3:17 pm
    • BTW, Karl designed and executed the bar area of the reception, and then after that helped the girls, and then after that had to help Kevin finish the groom's room because Mark still hadn't completed his grand idea. What a shame that in group/team efforts…..team effort is overlooked!!!! Karl can execute for himself and the good of all.

  8. I'm actually so upset that Mark was sent home today…I'm seriously thinking of not watching again…he's got a great personality and is a great designer…I really think the design panel failed in their decision…I'm going to go cry now….

GZgurrl on September 6, 2011 at 3:55 pm
    • I did cry!!

marie on September 7, 2011 at 1:14 am
    • I completely agree that Mark was the best designer not to mention his personality which make him the more pleasant to watch. Big mistake to sent him home. As for David, I think he saw in Mark too much talent and felt someway threatened by him. Of course she loves Meg. He knows her show won't last long.

Justin Case on September 10, 2011 at 9:34 pm
  9. Karl without question is the winner. Meg can come back for guest spots until she gets a show.

For everyone except David B. – take a look at the new Architectural Digest just mailed out. This is INTERIOR DESIGN.

  10. Alright all you whiners and complainers, let's remember this is TV show. It's not the end of the world as we know it because Mark got sent home. It's not even the end of HGTV. They are trying to listen to us and attempting to provide more of a variety like that show, Interiors, Inc. They gave us a sneak peak for next season right after DS.

So lighten up folks and if you can't I invite you to shut it.

This is one show out of many that HGTV produces. Take your pick, watch what you want or use that handy remote control of yours and switch channels. And if you really think Mark is Jesus and worth following, then you can go sign up for his newsletter. He had the talent but lacked the execution and seeing the big picture of designing a space. In an ideal world, it would have been better to see Mark and Karl at the end but that didn't happen. I love Design Star and would like to see a truly talented designer win, like Karl. He is STILL left and worked just as hard as any of them (if not more since it seems he had to carry a couple of folks along the way – ie Karl's stolen loft bed design by Meg.)

It would be a real tragedy if they picked Meg. I know I'm holding my breath here hoping the judges do the right thing but hey, we haven't learned who the winner is yet so one can only hope.

    Stop_complaining on September 6, 2011 at 5:19 pm
    • Do you actually think that Karl is the only one to think of a loft bed and the others stole his idea?Take your own advice-"lighten up". Stop holding your breath.

      M.N. on September 6, 2011 at 6:21 pm
      • No. I don't actually. And so I reviewed the recording see what the hype was about. And yes, it does seem likely that Meg did copy Karl's designs. But I guess it's easy to deflect that since I can't personally speak to anyone in the show. Meg's loft bed is an after thought at best. Her ladder is not user friendly and everyone who looks at it thinks it's a bookcase. And that bed is not big enough to fit an adult. So either it's bad design or let me see, it's bad design and she copied the idea.

At least I'm not pining of the loss of Mark. And no, I'm not giving Meg a break on this. There are lots of other nasty comments that have been made or can be made about her but I won't go there.

Karl is in it to win it! Least I hope. And I can hold my breath if I want to and I can switch channels and whatever. That's why I said I invite those who can't lighten up to shut it. It's an invitation. It doesn't mean anyone will accept. Now if you please, leave me to my opinions and I'll leave you to yours! Thanks.

        Stop_complaining on September 6, 2011 at 6:32 pm
        • no one stole any one"s ideas! It doesn"t take a designer to figure out that the bed has to be lofted. It is the only way a bed would fit in those tiny houses. I agree with you about Karl. I think he is the better designer. I hope he can overcome his nerves and knock the judges socks off next week.

          M.N. on September 7, 2011 at 5:53 pm
          • OK. I'll take you word for it. Mark's original design had his bed on the main floor though. I know he changed his space planning and had nothing to do with Karl. But Meg's bed is all smoodged into the top of the foyer area. Bad design. Sigh.

Yes, me too about Karl but "It doesn't look good, Jim." Looks very much like the judges have picked the one I won't watch…more sighs…well I guess we find out next Monday!
I can still hope. Go Karl!

    • You mentioned a newsletter from Mark. Can you tell us where to find it?

Guest on September 6, 2011 at 8:22 pm
      • Sorry I cannot. It was in one of the many posts in this blog. But I hear he also has a FB page. Maybe if you go on there and do a search. It will pop up. I'm sure you can sign up for his newsletter that way.
        Good luck finding it.
