It’s Karl versus Meg as the designers face one last test: Do a makeover for a deserving family and create a TV pilot. Who will succeed to become the next Design Star? See exclusive scenes from Monday’s episode.

Who do you think will be the next Design Star? Tell us in the comments below.
Although I am not surprised to see who the judges finally chose as it seemed for quite some time that she had their votes early on, but I am terribly disappointed in the choice.. Am I pleased? Will I watch Meg's show? Heck no, as her work seems to be simply more of the same schlock that proliferates on much of this stations programming.
I had truly hoped that chic and inspiring design just might win out this time instead of the usual…but I suppose I will watch the very FEW shows that I do respect and leave it at that. What a shame, this station was once an joy to watch instead of something filled with bright and shiny people doing things that just don't work.
There was a time when I had HGTV on most of the day & night and was often kidded about it, but I'm very sad to say that time has passed oh so long ago. I wish Meg the very best, but this is one designer who will turn the station.
HGTV did it again. Third year in a row not the best designer won, but the one who is the best "entertainer". Karl was the whole package. Likeable, talented, focused, delivered time after time again (whereas Meg either didn't finish or barely finish in time and made odd choices) and is humble.
I thought his makeover for the family was personal, the TV closet was uniquely done to their requirements and it looked like a family can live there.
Meg's room looked generic. A design I have seen 100x before.
I also think Karl had the tougher challenge with trying to fit Tuscan style and gritty street look together while Meg only had to come up with "something blue, warm and leather". geez, very tough…of course the couple liked it – because it looked better than what they had before. The look/ design was exchangeable with many other designs that cover "something blue, warm and leather".
Also Meg had issues with time management "again", with shooting her camera scenes. Karl did not.
I am really amazed that the judges did not see what gem they had in Karl. He not only has an impressive portfolio but was solid throughout the whole competition.
Also, in my opinion the whole "I am a crime investigator" theme will get old VERY quickly or is "hello, I am Meg, I have a background in criminology" the new standard line when she introduces herself? You can only do so much with that theme.
I would have loved to watch Karl in his own show, but Meg? She is not that great of a designer, not that pleasant to look at and her voice also takes some getting used to, so I guess I will spend my time otherwise.
By the way, did anybody notice that Cathy was not called back to help either Meg or Karl? Hahaha… she is probably still not over it, but she still can brag that "she" was featured in "three national magazines".
All in all… I liked the show, the designers were, for the most parts, likeable but I don't agree with the finale but certainly wish Karl the best. He can be very proud of himself and I would hire him any day for my house!
Sooo disappointing… Karl is a great designer, but maybe his personality on tv is too similar to somebody that already has their show. He kind of reminds me of David. He is so wam and talented. He comes up with interesting and INSPIRING ideas. Meg has unique personality for HGTV, I do not think she has talent or that I will enjoy watching her. Her voice is very irritating. To be honest this was kind of a shock for me! Karl seemed like a clear winner for some time.
I’m very disappointed in the DS finale.
I won’t watch Meg’s show either. Her designs weren’t original and I personally can’t listen to her voice either.
Karl had some really unique ideas and I’d certainly watch his show to see what new inspirations he comes up with.
I’m looking for new inspiration not someone who is just redoing old HGTV ideas.
KARL GOT ROBBED! He is so talented and I like the way he composes and thinks through his rooms. He had unique ideas and with his professional background I think his show would have been so much more informative and insprational. His style is so sensible and beautiful at the same time. Meg just comes across as a crafty macaroni gluer with delusional thoughts of being a real designer. The last room she created looks like so many I've seen in magazines and on HGTV before…nice but generic. Loved Meg's upside down hanging planters and the jars of dirt on the shelves in the tiny house challenge hahaha oh… how stupid and tacky. What a desperate way to fill space with not a bit of creativity. Karl nailed that challenge with multiple uses for many of the things he put in the room, the way he used the space keeping it chic while a practical use of space.
sorry Karl.
I, too am disappointed that it wasn’t Karl–I loved his vision. He made me see things totally different and I thought I didn’t like contemporary design! His ideas have more to offer me. I like Meg, but really a blue room, cream furniture & mirrors is too much like a Candice Olson formula.
Both are great designers. They have different styles. Megs is more homey. Karl is more traditional.
My preference is Doug. I loved his details. They were the BEST I have ever seen on Design Star. (Sorry David) I still love Color Splash. Meg Is great. Karl is great. You could have flipped a coin. I hope to see them both again.
meg will do well , I hope i was pulling for her! so glad kathy was not the one.She mad me mad just looking at her,so nose up in the air, better than anybody {no your not] thanks donna sabin
We have to say our friends and family, as well, as my husband and I were disappointed that Karl didn't win. Karl would have been a GREAT choice, and his talents exceed those of several of HDTV's judges, except for Candice, great lady. Yes, Karl was a little shy and humble, but that was part of his charm. Karl has such a capacity to decorate, and he brought such a fresh flavor into his creations. Good luck Karl! We know you will succeed on your journey as an accomplished designer.
As for Meg, she is a bit to unpolished to hold the interest of a large auience, lacks pizzazz. We have totally given up on HDTV's voting choices the last two years. Couldn't the judges see that Meg was gasping for air when she spoke? We wanted to breathe for her as she babbled on. Someone . . . please give that lady some oxygen.
Enough of our 'rather rude but true' comments . . . and thanks for reading our thoughts.
The Sylvias, and our friends and family.
I stopped watching Design Star the season after the lovely & creative Jennifer won. The network wasn’t happy we picked her, didn’t back her up with a healthy budget for the show or enough publicity. They “premiered” her show during the day, instead of at night like all the rest & only showed 1 or 2 episodes. The next season of Design Star they changed the rules, the other 2 judges (Cynthia Rowley being 1) & we no longer voted for who we wanted to watched. Mom kept me up to speed & I can’t BELIEVE they picked a designer that couldn’t finish her rooms half the time. I did see the tiny house episode; well my tiny house WOULD look twice as big as the other two if it had NO STORAGE! I’ve NEVER seen so many negative comments towards a winner in ANY contest so its ABUNDANTLY clear that MOST people didn’t like her “talent”. It’s all fixed! But if we don’t watch…maybe they’ll see they DON’T know what we WANT to watch…GOOD & CREATIVE design!!! Another HGTV show I won’t watch!!!
