David on the Finale: “Can You Handle This Moment?!”

David on the Judging Panel

David dishes on what it was like to be in the elimination room while the judging panel deliberated. Plus, why his heart was beating “1000 times a minute” and what is “the golden ticket for fabulous.”

What did you think of the season finale? Did you think the right designer won out? Tell us in the comments below.

  1. Once again, a swing and a miss. Design Star almost never gets it right. In fact, David and Antonio are the only stars you've found. Kim, terrible. Supposedly the next winner got a show, but I've never seen it and I am a loyal HGTV watcher. Whats-her-face last year is unwatchable. And here's a news flash; not only does the camera NOT love Meg, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't even admit to being friends. I know the microphone hates Meg. Her voice is a combo of fingernails on a chalkboard and a 13 year old boy during puberty trying to yodel.

While we are on the subject can we PLEASE shake up the judges for next season. I'd watch Candice and Vern read the Akron, OH phone book, but Genevieve stinks. Intensely dislike all the shows she is on, and her design skills are so limited compared to others. I think you could get either Vern or Candice falling-down-drunk, fly them to a desert island and equip them with a bag of coconuts and sidewalk chalk, and they'd STILL design circles around Genevieve. If this year was to test out David for being a judge, then by all means get him in there!

    • Yes, please: I would like to see a show featuring Vern and Candice slightly loopy with coconuts and sidewalk chalk. That would be so much better than 8 people putting together a wedding in two days…

  2. I think it's time to go back to having the viewers vote! Obviously we did a great job – look at David's success.

    • Unfortunately, viewers have learned how to electronically stuff the ballot box, so a fair vote would be impossible.

  3. Didn't care for last years winner and certainly not this year either !! Would much prefer David as a judge instead of Genivieve. Do NOT like her personality…she gives off an attitude ……"I'm hot S — – " Iand I do not like her show….I really like Vern , David and Candice. They know their stuff !! I agree with others…let the audience pick the winner.

  4. I am so sad! Karl would have been great to watch! I must agree with everyone else, Meg may have been nice enough, but I have no interest in watching her show. I also really think that walking into someone's space and telling them they have "committed a crime" is really rude!

  5. If you design producers read these at all… You will see what the people want and hopefully change the next design star… Let me help me…People want:REALNESS,UNIQUENESS,People want someone they CAN realate to but has GREAT DESIGNSSSS… NOT if they are entertaining. I see your point of needing someone new, but they still have to be a better designer and STILL be different and capture the camera audience. People want fun but not too much fun to the pointe the design is nothing more than what they could have done themselves.

  6. CONTINUED FROM ABOVE..BECAUSE YOU CANT SAY TOO MUCH ON THIS YOU KNOW :)

    .

People want to learn something new and get a different take on their space than what they see in their own eyes. Thats why they turn to HGTV for desgin help, but Meg is NOT a good designer. Yes FUN to watch and actually Meg would be a GREAT HOST, but not her own show. Karl is A GREAT designer, he listens to what people want and gives them that, nothing else. Yes his camera is a bit off, but people LIKE THAT.. PEOPLE WANT TO SEE SOMEONE REAL, PEOPLE WANT to see Karl come from bad and shy camera challenges to his own show and evolve into a great host and tv personality to go along with his already GREAT design. You have to give peopel what they want, not what YOU think they want.

excuse all the typos…and misspelled words

  7. That above is let me help you.. I guess my fingures type faster than I want to think right now because you producers and big guys are not SEEING what people want to see. Its the PEOPLE that make you money, so give them what they want..

  8. It's so disappointing that viewers tune in to see a genuine outcome and instead the opinion of the same viewers the network counts on are clearly ignored. This viewer will not be watching Design Star again or any of it's "winners".

Side note: I would be willing to watch David's "Color Splash" but your assistant, Gina – OMG – no talent and as obnoxious as Meg. She is what's keeping this viewer away.

  9. We, as a family, are so disappointed with the choices made on Design Star, we're going to take a break from watching the channel at all.

  10. I'm too heart-broken, I thought Karl should be the winner. I learned a lot from Karl. I loved most of the work he did, I loved Mark too, but Karl first challenge was very impressive, the bedroom was brilliant. I don't think I will watch Meg, cant take her voice, I did not think her tiny house was functioning.
I agreed with the majority here, HGTV should allow viewers to vote.
