Your Design Star Fan Favorite Is…

Drumroll please…this year’s Design Star fan favorite is…Kellie! Throughout the season, this mother of two from Edmond, Okla., won viewers’ hearts with her “warm contemporary” style and equally warm personality. Mark came in at a very close second.

Kellie Clements: Fan Vote Winner

Congratulations, Kellie! Check back here soon for updates about Kellie’s new online show.

Update: Thanks to all who voted for the Design Star fan favorite this year!  We had more than 1.2 million votes total, and while Mark netted lots of votes towards the end of the competition, it wasn’t enough to topple Kellie’s lead.

      • I think like the Design Star winner, it's all fixed…That Todd Davis was obnoxious and very annoying when he was on Design Star…HGTV is now saying he was a fan favorite…Favorite of whom?

        Mark G on September 16, 2011 at 8:41 am
        • I like Todd Davis.

    • I totally agree! I think Mark was probably too good to be compared to the rest of the participants, and not well connected enough. I mean, Kellie is cute, don't take me wrong, and a good "decorator" at that, but it takes more than cuteness and decorating to be a great designer!

  2. Noooooooo! It should have been Mark!

    • Mark's fans online should have been voting from the beginning like kellie's!! She's been in the lead the whole show!! SHE SHOULD HAVE WON! duh ! She has more fans !!

      • I agree, way to go Kellie! Mark was great too, but I wish people would quit whinning……Kellie is well deserving, obviously.

    • I agree. I think a lot of people didn't vote for Mark in the beginning because we all thought he was going to win. I have no desire to watch Kellie on screen. Between her and Meg, this season was truly a big letdown.

  3. I was just in the process of sending in my 10th vote for Mark when "miss Mouth" popped up on the screen! Jeez, Design Star 2011 has been a total flop and waste of my time…!!!!

Will never watch again, thanks for absolutely nothing HGTV…!!!

    • I can't believe that because she stood up to Genivieve (sp) that you call her Miss Mouth! I appaud her for have the balls to do so!

And so childish to say "I won't watch anything on HGTV again!"

          • When Kelly was eliminated, she wrote on her Facebook page that she never wanted to win. What a freaking waste of everybody's time! Or was that just plain old CYA? Pretty pathetic whatever it was. Kellie's got a lot of growing up to do!

Gloria Ticks on September 21, 2011 at 11:13 pm
    • There is always a sore LOSER! Mark should have had his people voting from early on… KELLIE was in the lead by a very large margin for the last month. It is better to place third than last! GROW UP PEOPLE.

      KELLIE IS VERY TALENTED !

Fan on September 17, 2011 at 9:46 pm
  4. yes, It said voting through 9/15, didn't see a time, so I expected voting through the whole day, this is so unfair to Mark given the closeness of the vote!

    • i agree with you/ Kellie had me hooked from the begining when she first showed her pep jump in week one. She always had me wondering what she would come up with next. My only disappointment was when she chose not to put bunk beds in the clients room. Or for that matter, she also missed the fact he asked for lockers. Think that was the only time I was bummed for her. But, her personality was always on a high note; whereas, Mark always seemed too quiet. His choices were great, but he just seemed to subdoed. Hooray Kellie!

  7. Well, this is the second choice that i do not agree with HGTV about. Also KNOW i am not the only one that disagrees with the First, which happened Monday night! I was a shocker, but not in a good way. =o) But may the competition continue!

Bryan on September 15, 2011 at 12:01 pm
    • I completely agree. While Meg grew on me through out the competition I totally thought that Karl pulled it out in the end and deserved to win.

Guest on September 16, 2011 at 3:08 pm
    • I loved Karl too. He, like David Bromstad, was so personable and genuine. Karl both inspires you to want to re-design your home and makes you want to be his friend. His designs are modern and sophisticated.

Meg comes off phony to me. Her designs are good but there's not way I'd watch her show. I thought the idea for her show was kiddish; I want to watch a design show to be inspired to design at home not a cheesey crime-stopper themed show. The judging panel is phoney too though, so maybe that's why they liked it.

JulieG on September 16, 2011 at 5:26 pm
      • Meg's show won't be called Design Crimes; HGTV announced it (and it debuts this Saturday). It was cute and helped "brand" her for purposes of the competition, but in general too negative for a real show of her own.

One of the most important things I learned is from a book called The Aladdin Factor. I think it was written by one or both of the authors of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. It's about asking for what you want and not assuming that just because you do a great presentation at anything that you will be given what you want if you don't do the "closing" and ask for it. Meg kept asking. And Karl pointed out in his video statement afterward that he brought everything he had but was not loud about expressing how much he wanted it.

Anyway, it's a great book. After reading it several years ago, I immediately sent out letters to law firms where I work in L.A., telling them about myself and asking for their business. I booked up a whole year within a few days just by asking.

Also, I've noticed that if all things are equal between two or more job applicants, the employer will usually give the job to the person who shows they want it the most.

Just a good life lesson in general, for what it's worth. So no matter how anyone feels about Meg, we can all learn from watching how an upbeat personality and asking for what you want can make all the difference. Personally, she grew on me as the competition progressed, and especially after she tried to help Cathy by offering to put flowers on Cathy's sweetheart table at the wedding reception challenge.

    • I don't agree either with Kelli, Mark is a better designer and ha far more talent. Keli is just too cute with the story of her kids. Gues there are alot of sentimental voters who can't recognize REAL TALENT.

Chris on September 20, 2011 at 1:29 pm
  8. YES!!! Go Kellie!!! The thing about it is to all of you people that are upset, Kellie has been the top of the fan favorite the WHOLE time. It wasn't until the very end the Mark even started to catch up. Kellie deserves to win. If you wanted Mark to win you should have been voting earlier than the last week. And Eilleen, it has NOTHING to do with race. Grow up.

MAC on September 15, 2011 at 12:02 pm
    • What did she really win?

      Mark G on September 16, 2011 at 8:44 am
    • I think many of Mark's fans just assumed he would win and hence did not vote for him to have the online show until he was eliminated from the competition. So that' a second life lesson to take from all this: (1) ask for what you want and tell people you want it (Meg did), and (2) over-confidence is one of the surest ways to fail (over-confidence that Mark would win so his fans didn't vote until too late to catch up). Even if a result upsets me in any competition in life, I try to see what I can lear about what worked well for the winner and what the loser could have done differently so I can apply both in my own life.

Moonbeam on September 16, 2011 at 10:42 pm
      • You try to "learn about what worked well for the winner and what the loser could have done differently"? Well, I guess you can learn that the "winner" knew how to cheat the system, by telling all her friends to vote 10 times every day from as many different computers as they could get their hands on, and from as many different browsers as they could find. Cheaters can sometimes win, but they will always be frauds!! Hope you learn that lesson as well, Mr. or Ms. Moonbeam!! Oh, and by the way, claiming "God" is on your side doesn't always mean a hill of beans!

DesignStarFan on September 17, 2011 at 10:59 pm
    • Thank you for reminding people of the obvious. I guess no one noticed how far down Mark was even on the fan vote. Do you know that the week that Kathy went home she had 14% of the fan vote (from the home stager's association vote and Mark was only at 11% and thankfully Kellie was at 22% and stayed there until the last week of voting.
