Your Design Star Fan Favorite Is…
Drumroll please…this year’s Design Star fan favorite is…Kellie! Throughout the season, this mother of two from Edmond, Okla., won viewers’ hearts with her “warm contemporary” style and equally warm personality. Mark came in at a very close second.
Congratulations, Kellie! Check back here soon for updates about Kellie’s new online show.
Update: Thanks to all who voted for the Design Star fan favorite this year! We had more than 1.2 million votes total, and while Mark netted lots of votes towards the end of the competition, it wasn’t enough to topple Kellie’s lead.

I have to agree with the other voters. If the voting is supposed to continue through 9/15(I never saw a cut off time) then how can a winner be declared before 9/16? The last minute surge of voters could definitely sway things…I don't feel like this decision is fair to all of the contestants. I'm not going to be petty and claim any racial bias but I will say that it's premature. It is definitely that!
Absolutely, should have been to midnight, at least til noon as they posted, I tuned in before noon (eastern) and Kellies picture was in my face – what a shock!
read the website people there is cutoff of 12pm!!! 11am central.
That much less time that people could vote for Kellie as well!
You are so wonderful Kellie, we are so happy for you.
The thing that sealed it for me with Kellie was the look on that little boy's face when he didn't get his bunk bed! Like Santa forgetting to stop by one year…!!!!
I have to agree, I really liked her before then. But she was determined not to give the child what HE wanted-who does that to a child?
she wrote about that episode on her blog! She tried to get bunkbeds!! they can only go to certain places to buy things for each project and the store had NO bunkbeds available… she did what she could with what she had! UGH im so sick of the freaking BUNKBEDS posts! the show doesnt show everything!
She did have a carpenter to build one, right?
One store wouldn't sell her bunkbeds off the floor; the other choice she had was very crappy (my words not hers). Kellie said in retrospect she should have had her carpenter build a frame around the crappy bunk beds, but you know you can't think of everything at the time. She also had some other ideas for the locker stuff that the producers vetoed. She also reports in her blog, that the boy did get his bunk beds in the end. The editing of the show made it look like Kellie was indifferent even opposed to the child's wants, and that was not the case at all.
She sounded totally disdainful of his requests even before she went shopping.
I agree!!! Get over it, people!! She did the best with what she had to work with! Others had issues on some of their designs the whole way through but everyone seems to be transfixed on only this one issue!
It showed her on that episode actually LOOKING at bunk beds, and then deciding not to buy them. If you DVR'd it, look again. So, can't imagine why she's saying she couldn't go to a store when bunk beds.
What you don't know is that she couldn't buy the beds, they had to be ordered.
If you spent less time being negative on this board making statements about things you don't know all of the facts about you would know that the little boy did get his bunk bed after the show…Kellie made sure of it. Go read her blog modernwhimsyinteriors.com HGTV only shows you what they want you to see. Get the whole scoop from the designers themselves…check out their blogs an Facebook pages.
get over it. she tried her best.
And noon in which time zone? Was that even specified? Though we all agree the decision was made even before noon est!
yes, I was on website at 11:52 eastern, at the latest and already saw Kelly named the winner!!
It's 9:07, I thought we had until noon?
WHAT!!!!! no!!!! Mark deserved this. You're telling me a voted about 3000 times for nothing??
3000 times each day? All your cheating for nothing. hahaha
Jesus, Deanna, what a hateful woman you are…..GET A LIFE!
If you have time to vote 3000 times a day it seems you need a life.
yeah mark deserved to win because ppl like you voting 3000 times a day just for one person?? SEEMS FAIR ….
First, of all how would anyone be able to vote 3000 times in one day, unless you had 300 computers to vote with, since we could only vote 10 times in one day!! I think they meant during the whole allotted voting time, from the very first day until September 14th ( since apparently the 15th was not a voting day!). Plus, whenever I voted, Mark was just under Kellie with the same percentage showing each time. Why didn't that ever change? I think that HGTV knows who they want from the beginning in each case, no matter who the people want.
never said it was one day
and it is easy when you have 4 different browsers. i meant over the whole span … plus that is adding in the people i rallied in to vote for him by introducing them to his designs
so don't say i ever said that was in one day.. because it wasn't
sarcastic smilies btw
Oh that makes sense…(sarcastically agreeing)xD
it doesnt say each day
LOL this whole banter sounds silly.
Some of us have been voting 10 times each day for Kellie. I liked her portfolio from the day I began voting. At that time, she was in third place behind Cathy and another designer (Kevin, I think). I was only disappointed with 2 of Kellie's designs all season; whereas, I disliked most of what Meg did. Mark had some very nice designs, but I still liked Kellie's better overall, despite the bunk bed debacle. I've been voting 10 times each day since June 11. So, I think I've cast over 900 votes for her. It was a fun season, but I won't watch Meg's new show.
yep, it isn't about deserving its about what the majority of the people voted for. the results show that oviously more people felt kellie deserved it
WRONG! It's the person who had no qualms about cheating the system! Little Miss Model of Holiness herself!
Maybe the deadline was 11:50 for Kellie fans and 12:00 for Mark's fans……
Apparently someone at HGTV doesn't know how to tell time.
Who cares. It's all a big joke.
When Karl lost I saw the eminent defeat of Mark around the corner.
Cept that it really doesn't matter since with online shows since hardly anyone watches them.
Plus, it's even easier to ignore the online shows since it's not a TV scheduled viewing like HH or something.
byebye Kelie/Meg! byebye HGTV! byebye DS!
You are SO RIGHT!!!!
Mark has been encouraging his fans to vote from multiple computers and multiple computers for weeks and none of you had a problem with that. Linda Hudson admitted that she and her friends voted for him over 1000 times per day.
How could you vote more than 10 times a day on one computer? Sorry he lost the competition and came in third.
Came in third? Were you a kindergarten dropout?
Voting multiple times on one computer is simple; clear your cookies or use multiple browsers. Not only did Mark promote this, Meg did, too on her Facebook page. She disguised it as a criticism, but paired it closely with her plea for everybody to please vote for Kellie (since Meg herself was so far behind).
It's the same technique you use if you want to read more than 20 New York Times articles in one month, etc. It's also the reason that online voting is too unreliable to use for anything substantive, such as choosing the actual Design Star winner the way it could be used years ago when David B won.
YES! GO KELLIE!!
I am so glad that Kellie won the fan favorite because I know she was my favorite. Although I did not agree with her decision to not give the child his bunkbed he wanted, I feel there were other designers that messed up far worst than what she had done. Mark was also one of my favorites through out the season, but I did not like him towards the end and I did not agree with him putting two different black splashing in the kitchen. Also, I am so happy that Meg won and I found her show more interesting than Karl's show, he kind of lost my interest, but he did have some great ideas.
I agree Deanna; plus Mark had trouble with time management which seemed to be a recurring theme on each show.
Actually the little boy did get his bunk bed after the show. Kellie made sure of it. Go check out her blog modernwhimsyinteriors.com she explains what happened there. HGTV only shows what they want you to see. Get the real scoop from the designers themselves. Check out their blogs and Facebook pages.
Kellie had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the boy getting his bunk bed. You need to get a dose of reality about everything she tells you.
Design Star always goes back and rights all the wrongs the decorators commit. They do it every season!
This is what happens to people who get all starry-eyed about Jesus. They'll believe anything anybody tells them.
Ginger Lee, why are you so hateful? The whole tone of your note sounds like you might be a very miserable person, which is so sad. And I am not a starry-eyed person, but Jesus is some one that will love you…yes, even you! and I feel sorry for you on the day of judgement. I hope He has pity for you. God bless you, Ginger Lee!
LOL God is a concept by which we measure our pain. Ever notice that wehn people are feeling stress they pray to this concept to make themselve feel better. Ginger Lee did not sound spiteful.
Probably a very secure person. God is a concept by which we measure our pain! Look at all the sinners who steal from churches…known ordained minister who had supply companies send him checks to his home when he sent inventory back after he sold the business and the inventory was included in the sale. Guess he rotting in Hell if you believe in that fantasy.
…And cowgirl- ?pain? There are miserable people and sinners EVERYWHERE in all walks of life… Yes, people pray to the Father in times of stress and happiness, joy and pain… That's what is supposed to happen. I just hope that seriously, you have found something to give you comfort like the Lord Jesus comforts his people…
Wow, Ginger- Jesus is something to be starry eyed over! I hope that you will experience his love and greatness one day!
Kellie was warm hearted and no, she didn't give the little boy his bunk bed choice. Thank goodness it wasn't Cathy.
The bunk beds I saw were awful…I don't blame Kellie for not using them in her design.
