Watch Meg’s New Show Saturday at 6/5c
Missing Design Star already? Get can’t-miss design tips and see amazing makeovers on our newest star’s show, HGTV’s Great Rooms, premiering this Saturday at 6/5c.

This week, Meg takes on Kim and Andy’s no-personality kitchen — and turns it into a “mo-ditional,” multi-functional kitchen, dining and bar space. Carpenter and host of DIY Network’s Kitchen Impossible Marc Bartolomeo joins Meg as the show’s full-time carpenter.

Come on stop with the mean jokes. Meg's just a mediocre designer.
She didn't win fairly but let's stick to design. All I care about.
Ugh, she is homely.
Why don't you keep your rude comments to yourself, jackass.
Yeah! She was a great designer! Blogs are supposed to be posting creative and nice ideas not to share ALL of your mind
Question for all of you:
Did you guys like Kim Myles?
The reason I'm asking is because she wasn't picture perfect either, but she seemed nice, yet Kim has seemed to vanish from HGTV, well at least her show has…In fact did anyone even see her at this Design Star final show?…It seems like so many of you already dislike Meg (which I'm still trying to figure out if it's based on just looks, or designing ability), either way I guess it doesn't matter because I don't see her succeeding if she's already a turn off for so many people here.
One other question:
Have you guys always been dissatisfied with the outcome of this show, and if so, who did you feel deserved to win each season?
Why are you asking us? What does it matter?
Thought is was just reality TV in competitions format.
If people want to watch it, then they should just watch it to be entertained.
Seems there's no point in having the expectation that the truly deserving person will be the winner in the end.
I was just curious…I just wanted to see who other people thought should have won.
Season 1 I was rooting the whole way for David B, so was very happy! I even thought the one who was in 2nd place then was really good too, so the competition was very close to me.
The following seasons my favorites weren't the ones to win, but I didn't have anything against the winners, so it was sort of "whatever" who cares.
This one? Well, you've been on the blog for days too. There's a good number of reasons against Meg, (I still wonder what would have happened on the final if the furniture choices by the others would have failed.) I don't care for her, don't think she's a special designer. I DO disagree with direct attacks on her looks or personality. I even told you before, I vote thumbs down on those.
Kim Myles, Myles of Style? Didn't do anything for me. I'm not even sure why. I hadn't even noticed her missing. Too bad, because she did have some real talent and seemed like a good person.
Thanks for sharing Kate.
Yea I really really liked Kim Myles, I'm not sure why her show has disappeared…that is a good question!
I loved kim as a person, but not so much as a designer…same with Meg really.
She, Kim, is still doing shows (HGTV'd and last nights show Gaeage Sale) and would have been much better as the spice up your kitchen show than the lawyer they had host it.
It will come on today at 6:00 PM,right?
Just watched Meg's new show. While I liked some of what she did, I won't be watching in the future. It's not the design, it's Meg. It's too bad this was the year they thought they needed a female star. I would be much more likely to watch Karl or Mark. I will be very surprised if her show is picked up for another season.
Meg, your pilot show was wonderful! Great design…loved the lights over the dining room table. Loved the backsplash running vertically. Loved the wall paper and the bar design. You will make a lot of people happy in Chicago. WTG!!!
Meg, I watched your new show and I loved it. Thanks for bringing the love to Chi-town. You can come decorate any room in my house
I wish you all the success with your show!!!!!! We needed a design show to showcase Chicago.
Love the "Great Room" Show
I agree!!! I think Meg is fabulous!
I just watched Meg's new show and it was so much fun and the result was so real-life do-able. I haven't been a fan of past winners' shows but sometimes watch to see what David paints. I hope this one has a long run because I am always building or remodeling someplace. I'll be a true Chicago Suburban Fan (CSF). Kathy
How many hosts does it take to shoot the new "Design Star"'s (and I use the term "Star" loosely) Great Rooms — (Great? — very loosely)!? Apparently, a minimum of 2 and possibly more. The HOST of "DIY Kitchen Impossible" is now Meg's "carpenter" and it looks like he STILL has his own show too. Her design concept for the kitchen? Gut the place and then walks out and goes shopping. Can we say "amateur"??? And the choices she made, YUCK! Did you see the French Provincial chairs with the bamboo glass table? Who did the space planning drawings? Not her! Just her Sandpaper Voice" in tow. Did you see the pathetic drawing on the wall for the bar? She took out STORAGE AREAS to put this horrible wallpaper up with a few shelves (hung completely wrong) and "designed" a very narrow bar top where you couldn't even sit at comfortably, FACING the very busy wallpaper! This was apparently Meg's crowning achievement. Color choices? Awful. And you had at least 3 wood tones in the space, making everything look choppy instead of cohesive. And for comic relief (we need something to make us feel better) — a klutz to boot! Remember the white box challenge? Deja Vu! She spray paints the bench legs and drops them on the ground. Then she spray paints them again, oh and the surrounding grass area. Will HGTV pick up the tab for that too? Apparently, HGTV is footing the bill for the whole renovation. First time, according to Meg. Are the producers afraid that Meg won't deliver and so they're giving her a safety net and paying the bills? They certainly saved on costs by shooting in Meg's hometown — Chicago. No room and board costs. She has her own shop, $$$ savings there and it looks like the Host of "Kitchen Impossible" (her "carpenter") and his workers already had a production crew in the area! How handy! It's a shame. This level of expertise and information sets HGTV back at least 10 years to the level of that nice lady Cindy (can't remember her show's name). HGTV, your audience is more sophisticated than ever and you give us this???? There's no depth of knowledge — oil cloth — really? I too, won't be wasting my time watching any more. With a time slot of 6PM on a Saturday, I doubt she'll be around long. If she loves being on camera so much, she should have applied to Nate Berkus for an apprenticeship. And can we just touch upon her personality and voice? So sarcastic!!! Puts down the home owners — AGAIN! If she talked to me like that, I would quickly show her to my unadorned door. And I can't understand her scratchy voice. Did she say $80,000 or $8,000? Except for new cabinets and flooring, I don't see where any of the money went. So I guess it was $8,000. Unlike many other bloggers, I don't really care what she looks like as long as she delivers Great Design and we can learn something and be inspired. Unfortunately, she is at best, a decorator, and that's being very, very, generous. When will HGTV learn that we, their viewers, want the hosts of their design shows to KNOW MORE than we do. Give Karl and Mark a chance. I can't believe that neither of them won the online design star! Another miss. Maybe everyone thought Karl would surely win, that they didn't vote for him online. Just guessing. Color me Disappointed and Disgusted.
Barb, Thanks for the editorial it was very helpful in sizing up the show! Out of curiosity I wanted to see the Blog reviews for Megs ‘new pilot show. I did not watch it myself since Saturday evenings are very precious to me ( I certainly will not squander it with her). I usually have other activities. Although under any circumstance I would not have watched due to principles. HGTV made a mockery out of all their viewers and I (for one) will not be made a fool. An incident such as Meg reminds me of Andy Warhol’s famous quote; “…everyone will be…………famous for 15 minutes.” Then disappear like a puff of smoke!!!!! The same will apply to Kellie!
I was a Karl fan, too, so I didn't even take time to watch Meg. I am curious about one thing though, how were you able to write such a long post without breaking it into chunks? I know others, myself included, have written things, tried to submit, and then got a message back that it was too long. That doesn't seem to have happened to you. Please enlighten us.
I don't know. I just typed what I felt and hit submit comment. Looking back, I was a bit long-winded. I was just so frustrated that another design opportunity has slipped through HGTV's fistful of dollars' hands. I've only blogged a few times, so I'm not very computer savvy and don't know the ins and outs. Sorry, if that's not very helpful. Barb
I agree with the criticism of the design choices…very amateurish…her confusing taste coupled with a grating nasal, valley girl voice and I just want to climb the walls! I previewed her new show on DVR and will not waste the taping space again! I didn't care for Kim Myles either…I thought she was just too upbeat….and giggled way too much. My favorite for this past DS was Karl…I thought he was professional, thoughtful and very talented. I'll watch him if he ever makes it back.
THE GIRL MUST GO!
I agree. I thought the bar wall was terrible. It needed to be bigger and built out more and the wine racks were too small for the space. The show seems to be babysat…meaning someone else is doing the work while she shops. In that case, Mark would have been okay…given his time constraint problems. I still liked Karl the best. He had truly original, creative ideas. And, her voice really bugs me.
Gosh, you sound like an angry person.
I agree, her voice is very difficult to listen to.
yeah, didn't especially like her kitchen either. Nothing special there.
I did not care for the show. She seemed quite needy, almost begging the homeowners to love it. Too much clowning around and not enough information, except from the carpenter. The "diagnostic" seemed like an imitation of what Emily does on her design show. Did not care for the bar wall – it seemed to eat up a lot of space for little benefit. Who's going to go pour themselves a drink and then sit on a stool that faces into a wall?
I liked that Meg separated the husband and wife to see what they liked and disliked. Have seen the "bar wall" on several different shows on HGTV. Often thought who wants to eat facing a wall?? I'm kind of getting it now as not a place to drink wine or eat a family meal, but as a place to eat a quick breakfast or enjoy a cup of coffee while reading the paper. I could totally do that. Thought the lighting was fantastic and the color of green seemed very calming, but again just my opinion.
DID NOT LIKE THE BAR AREA….SEEMED LIKE DESIGN ON A DIME…..$40,000…………………….DID NOT LOOK FINISHED AND SEEMED TO ME LIKE IT WAS A LEFTOVER FROM ANOTHER ROOM…I DID NOT LIKE THE COLORS VERY WELL……BACKSPLASHES AND CABINETS WERE NICE
