Meg New SHow

This week, Meg takes on Kim and Andy’s no-personality kitchen — and turns it into a “mo-ditional,” multi-functional kitchen, dining and bar space. Carpenter and host of DIY Network’s Kitchen Impossible Marc Bartolomeo joins Meg as the show’s full-time carpenter.

  1. I thought it was pretty good. Though, I can understand how not everyone likes the same thing.

  2. I watched her show and all I can say is that I can now confirm that HGTV and the judges made a gross mistake by selecting Meg as the winner. Candice wanted entertainment? Well Meg was clowning around at too many points in the show – like when she was spray painting the legs on the bench, and she tried to lift all of them and they all fell to the ground. This is exactly the fiasco that happened to her in the white box challenge with her coffee table. And give me a break – riding around on the lawnmower with the stuffed peacock at the end clip of the show? This is not entertainment and it's not really even funny. In fact, if anything, it shows that Meg is a klutz. Please – how unprofessional and silly can this show be with her as host??

Her design studio segment with the homeowners was sort of a ripoff of Emily Henderson's approach. The wall shelf and bar area was sparse and sort of like the useless shelving of her small house design challenge. I feel embarrassed for Marc Bartholomew from DIY network that he has to be associated with this show. The opening graphic on the show was HGTV Great Rooms – with Meg. If the show lasts a second season, hopefully they will replace the host with someone else. If this show had been called HGTV Great Rooms – with Kari, I would have envisioned a more stunning makeover with architectural highlights for the $40,000 that Meg spent on this mundane makeover, and it would have blown away the homeowners and the audience.

    • Great point about the Emily rip-off.

  4. i really don't understand all the haters out there. i guess you can all try out next year and see what people think of you! or maybe you already tried and didn't make it?????

jules on September 17, 2011 at 11:53 pm
    • I didn't try out for Design Star, nor would I, ever. I am not an interior designer. Meg did try out and how she won is a mystery to most of us. She is a flop!

  5. Karl all the way. He brought architectural elements into his show, and was just fabulous.
Meg: too pushy and too negative.

Sorry Karl, I would have watched you.
Meg: Good Luck, but I will not watch you…too push, always me me me….

    HGTV: I am disappointed !!

    • I agree. Karl would have been more fun and inspiring to watch. I have better things to do than watch an amateur decorator.

  6. Here is a little tip for Meg, I watched your show great rooms. The one thing that bothers a lot women is when they are with their husbands and someone says you guys, which Meg does alot. Well women are not guys and most don't like it, when called that. It's not very professional saying that and I hope this helps you in some way.

    • Yes Jim! I've been blogging about that for weeks. I didn't watch Meg's show last night, please tell me she didn't do it again! The host of D.Star said "guys" even more than Meg did! Really gets on my nerves.

kate on September 18, 2011 at 11:09 am
    • YES, THIS BUSINESS OF CALLING EVERYONE "GUYS" IS REALLY UNACCEPATBLE AND SOUNDS VERY IGNORANT REALLY. IT IS DONE ALL THE TIME ON THIS SHOW…VERY SAD

  7. Of course I didn't watch Meg's show, as it was readily apparent on DS, that Meg can't design anything. I see from the comments of people who did watch the show, that no Meg can't design, but she is entertaining? Well if entertainment is what HGTV wanted, then all they had to do is go back to Meg's tiny house "design," and shoot a show of Meg repeatedly trying to get into that tiny loft bed that she "designed." Now that would be great entertainment. Nothing to do with designing, but a laugh riot, worthy of HGTV's design principles.

    • Erik – you need to get a life and quit ripping on Meg! You have commented on this blog over and over again – ALL NEGATIVE comments. You must be one unhappy person! Get a LIFE!!!!

      momto3 on September 18, 2011 at 8:09 pm
    • If you didn't even watch her show, how can you critique it? Do you always rely on other people's opinions instead of learning and forming your own? Sad.

    • creature is very appropriate as part of your name; get a life and stay off this site please

  8. Congratulations Meg! I watched your show last night and thought it was FANTASTIC! I did think the $40,000 budget was a LOT! Lucky homeowners! Keep up the whimsy and I'll keep watching.

  9. Does anyone remember Meg's tip about the fabric for the bench? What did she cover it with, oilcloth that you apply yourself? Your answers would be greatly appreciated. TYIA!

  10. So was the show worth watching or not?…I missed it, it's on at a weird time, but then again like everything at HGTV I'm sure it will be repeated over and over again.

    Mark G on September 18, 2011 at 10:21 am
    • It wasn't too bad, but the controversy over her winning DS kinda tainted it. You're correct about the reruns — I'm sure it'l be on again some time this week.

Sandra on September 18, 2011 at 10:26 am
    • If you liked Meg, then it was wonderful, if you did not, it was awful.

Libby on September 18, 2011 at 2:47 pm
      • She didn't bother one way or the other, but I did prefer someone else.
