7 Questions With: Jordan Cappella
I’m counting down to the Design Star premiere on Tuesday, May 29 by featuring seven fun facts and confessions from each of the season seven designers. Next up on the list: Aussie interior designer and furniture designer Jordan Cappella.
How particular are you about your home? What is the one spot in the home that is the messiest or least designed?
My home is always camera ready. Maybe a pair of sneakers by the door, or a coat hung over a chair, but nothing that can’t be remedied in three minutes or less. I do have a hallway section that I am always redesigning in my head and for some reason its still white on white. Ha!
What is the number one mistake most people make when trying to design their home?
Lighting! People forget about the importance of balanced lighting. Always have a dimmer to create a mood!
Celebrity crush?
Don’t make me choose just one! Kelly Wearstler, Jonathan Adler, Antonio Banderas and Meryl Streep, to name just a few.
What’s something no one knows about you? A hidden skill or talent?
I am actually a really good cook. I stopped cooking for about five years, but have rediscovered my love for it in the past few months. As a result, I feel so much healthier, too.
If you could add one thing to the White House, it would be….a funky bright modern wallpaper to a wash room, just for an unexpected splash of fun!
What’s your biggest design regret?
I once painted a dining room in a bright apricot. It was very womb-like and every time i walked out of the room i felt like I was being reborn. It was not a good rebirth….haha. The hue was just a little off.
What is the most trouble you’ve gone through to get a piece for yourself or a client?
A few years back, I had a client whose funds were depleted mid-job. I helped her sell her jewelry and vintage bottles of alcohol so we could raise the money to continue the redesign of the apartment.

Jordan Capella, your portfolio: photo 4, a decal? Photo 8, you like how the green chairs pop when you enter the space? Better they should explode and disintegrate!
You're inspired by mid century ? That's why everyone wants to redo their mid century homes! To get away from that horrid look!
Hey erikcreature… why don't you stop hating on all the designers and find something better to do with your time. If you dislike everyone so much, why dont you stop reading and start your own design show if your so good at it.
Seriously, if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all.
Sounds like someone is super jelly. Oh and by the way, its two P's and two L's in Cappella get the spelling right before you slam other peoples design ideas and grammar. What an idiot.
Erikcreature Thanks for the Laugh, Your funny!
Sad that you think that my precise critique is funny. And, it's you're, not your!
Its a comment not an English test.
@Erik, your user name suits you. "Methinks the lady doth protest too much" Go and start your own show. You seem to have it all figured out.
Jordan sounds like a cool guy…just one quetion though. The client in the last question didn't run out of funds because of poor planning did they? I mean wouldn't it make more sense to raise the money before beginning the project. Just doesn't seem wise to me…
Hello Riley,
Thank you for the support. I was not aware we would have to raise money at all, until we had to!
@erikcreature I would much rather my designs evoke an emotion…Good or Bad!
Thank you!!!!
Jordan your room was amazing. Look forward to next week.
Jordan you are so talented. Love your work and you are so great on the show!
Jordan you are so fabulous I wish I could meet you!!!
