David on the Collage: “It’d Look Good…In My Trash Can”

Design Star Host and Mentor David Bromstad

David’s back this season with behind-the-scenes dish from the set.  This week: Hear about behind-the-scenes fights, his favorite spaces and, of course, the collage.

Now it’s your turn: Did you agree with David’s favorites?

  1. The team challenge should have come after the white room, if at all. The nasty chance to undermine, not create, is so out there. Can the team nonsense and get to the white room so we can see what each member can do! When the eliminations come, the designers will feel they were able to give it their best shot. Face it, they did not get to where they are by hoaky tricks and gimicks.

  2. I so agree! The drama on this season is pure meaness. Maybe next year they will bring Jerry Springer in to judge!

  3. Has everyone forgotten that this is TV? What is shown on the screen isn't always the way it is. Let's all try and judge the design work and not the way the show try's to depict certain "characters" they have attempted to create. Why do you think they started pairing them up more other than to create opportunity for drama that may or may not be there without some clever editing? This is the first season in a long time that I think has raised the bar with talent, so let's get back to what this is all about HGTV.

  4. The person that did all of the work got booted last night while the boy who played with his metal whatever it was stayed – a total crock. Yuki was the stand out in the room

    • It seems to me this often happens on this show. I remember how Vern was impressed by Mark's ladder design while the rest of the designers did the rest of the room

    • She may have done all the work BUT it was her work that sucked – her color choices and her art. The correct person got the boot!

  5. i totally agree that the white box challenge should be the first challenge. I also totally agree with Bill. Yuki never had a chance to showcase her talent and creativity. What a waste to go thru all this to get treated so meanly. As it says in the promo, she is the fun loving mother of four. Hope your mama never gets treated so badly. I have watched this show from the first episide of Design Star, but now it kind of makes me sick. All I saw was meaness, and rating grabbing foolishness. I guarentee if like other reality shows, there was an audience vote, the outcome would have been different. Wonder if HGTV is afraid of that.

  6. Love the show but do not like the team work – dont like the conflict. White box should be first. And David I think you are amazing – but not too sure about your latest wardrobe choices…hum.

  7. I so agree, she has great talent! Why so many mean people this time, that is not good it's just bad taste!

  8. I’m looking forward to the White Room Challenge…it’s always been my favorite.

As for Vanilla Ice being a judge–why not? He’s not only a Rap star, he’s also been a contractor for years and his work is outstanding.

I’m just wondering if HGTV is going to treat this year’s winner the same way they’ve done everyone but David. They’re on the air for a few episodes, then disappear.

  9. Celebrity judges have no right to be in this show. They have less design knowledge than any of the contestants. I doubt their opinions are even respected by these contestants. HGTV, please bring back Clive Pearse as host and make David Bromstad a judge!!!!____I also agree that the White Box Challenge should always be the first challenge. This way the audience will see what each designer's real styles and their talent without having to clash or compromise their design with other designers. We should have a poll!

  10. David, who is suggesting your clothing, it's awful, especially the pants! I've been a fan of yours since you were on Design Star yourself, but this clothing just stinks, to put it honestly. . .I liked your style a lot up till now.
