Sneak Peek: Episode 7

Final Four Designers With Host David Bromstad

This week, the final four take on their first small space challenge: Create a colorful condo living room. The camera challenge stakes are higher, too, as each contestant must give a decorating tip in front of a live studio audience on CBS’s The Talk. But will the pressure be too much for some contestants? See a sneak peek of the action after the jump.

Predictions: Who do you think will win this week, and who’s next to go home?

  1. Glad for the finalists. I am hoping that the powers-to be in hgtv read this- You guys need to have a simple concept show where an ordinary space is improved with only paint and the addition of ONE FEATURE/FOCAL ITEM/POINT. Can you see it? The room is gutted out, painted, the feature piece is built and placed and then the owner's items are returned back into the room- with some editing and repositioning. THIS is REAL life. It would be good on cost and then sponsors could be included for the feature- ie a fireplace company if a fireplace/mantle/adjoining shelves was the addition. So logical!

  2. Here is another idea for a new show- room perk. The designer takes only $1000 to freshen-up the room, but in keeping/returning a portion of the original items back to the space. My point is that from other blogs read- viewers want to see real solutions they can use in their homes. AND that many viewers are tired of house hunters- which is low cost to produce- so that must be why we see it so many times. So why not have some more design shows that are not expensive to produce? This could be a concept show and past DS contestants could take a turn – so there would be no expensive contract for one personality. Different faces would mean the show would stay interesting and if the concept was presented as a "challenge:, then no one would expect a total new space- but a total fresh look.

    • Love this idea–I would watch it!

    • Hi friend, Im glad you came up with this idea! Its a novel concept and much more feasible than what we were required to do! Thanks for watching!

    • I really like your ideas. Room Perk and Focal Point concepts are more encompassing of challenges real people face and could possibly attempt to duplicate, (although fireplaces can run into low tens of thousands). Maybe the judges could choose the winning design or something. Or, maybe they could do similar/same rooms in a model home to keep comparisons as equal as possible. I'd watch it!

  3. I think the judges need to give more respect to the contestants. Everyone has something in their design that is worthy of a complement. Just because they make some mistakes here and there doesn't mean you can treat them like they don't know what they're doing and talk to them like they're completely stupid. Really I think the judges need to realize that the contestants need to make some mistakes before they get better. If they are so condescending, the contestants may never get better. Design isn't perfect. Isn't this show about learning, so that the contestants can take their design to the next level?

    • I completely agree with you about that!

  4. Please keep in mind how much footage is left on the cutting room floor! All of the finalists wish that our true design perspective was represented in this competition. Most of these people are awesome and extremely talented. This is a television show which only allows for a glimpse of the story and before they give you that glimpse they send it through a filter to program your mind and make you favor one individual over the other. This is not a true testiment to who these designeres really are as individuals or creative minds. No one shops at one store for an entire project or picks paint colors in 5 minutes.

  5. More design and less drama. It is called DESIGN Star!

    • I hear ya, but HGTV must get and/or keep their ratings and DRAMA will do it everytime! :D

    • More like less drama and no talent this DS season LOL. I agree with what someone else said that there are no stand up designers this season. I appreciate the no drama but not the lack of talent. Where are the individual's unique point of view? It seems their best asset this season is that the ones left now know how to put a room together. Big whoop. If you're a design professional good enough to earn a spot on the show, then that seems pretty basic. BUT just because they are designers doesn't necessarily make them a STAR. Wake me up when the season ends please.

  6. please bring back Candace Olsen as a judge more often…..she is terrific….she can do my home anytime, never saw a design I didn't like….she listens to the clients

  7. Good luck to all four final designers as they get ready to be on television. Here's hoping that Mikel will step it up this time, and impress the judges and audience with his skill and design ability. It would be nice to have another man win DS this time around. But the ladies are very good: Britney, Danielle and Hilari will certainly give the women an edge. Should be interesting!

  8. Seriously, this is the blandest DS season yet. The other seasons had unnecessary drama, but at least the designers had some individual style and a unique point of view that was their own. Yawn city this season!
I watch it mostly online now and half that time is doing something else while I have this running in the background. LOL. And I can't believe they have last season's winner as a guest judge when they have yet to invite any other previous winners back as a judge. Really HGTV?

You're just becoming another channel to surf through. I watch 2 shows now from time to time – Love it or List it and Property Brothers (and occasionally I'll watch the Kitchen Brothers). The rest is just doesn't hold my interest. And I used to watch HGTV 24/7. ha.

    • I love Design Star. Daniel & Hillary are my favorites…good personalities & designs.

HGTV programing is ;loosing my interest in other programing, however. I miss Design on a Dime..which called for creativity and reality solutions to everyone's regular problems. Million Dollar homes & celebrity homes are unrealistic & boring.

  9. Ithink Mikel will go home. Bring it girls!

  10. I want to know why Britany wasn't in the Ep 7 Preview? It doesn't seem fair for the fan voting to always leave her out of the picture. She is such an awesome designer and a great competitor why has she been ignored most of the season? It would seem like she would shine in this episode because of her background in residential design.
