How Would You Decorate a Yurt?

Yurt Before - Exterior

On tonight’s episode of Design Star (tune in at 9/8c), the final three take on a brand new nontraditional home challenge: turn a yurt into a dream bedroom suite. But first: what the heck is a yurt? It’s a portable structure with round walls built on a wood lattice frame.

Though the centuries-old structures originated in central Asia, today they’re used in both old and new ways. You can find them anywhere from vacation communities in the English countryside

  1. Hilari please don"t ever give up on your dream remember when man says no , God says yes. You will make it because you are a positive classy person . Your dreams in life is just a leap away.

  2. So happy to see Britany in the finals, that rotating bed ROCKED. She is absolutely incredible. Rock it out girl, take it home for the win!

  3. Very bad decision to let Hilari go! Her design was the best and her camera challenge was the best. She was the only entertaining designer connecting with the audience and giving us creative designs. Brittany has not improved at all with the camera challenges and her design was the worst. Poor decision of the HGTV judges.

    • This is the first time I have ever blogged about anything, but I think the judges really missed this one!

    • Agree-she is talented and has a made-for-tv personality!

    • I disagree. Hilari hasn't gotten better at her camera challenges, and Britany really deserves to win. She has been consistent the whole competition. They are all great designers, but it comes to the point where someone just has to go home. It's something that has to happen in every competition, otherwise there wouldn't be a winner

  4. I thght hilari should have been top two…. Hgtv also needs to recognize its diverse audience who is not representative of of current show host….. Inspite of her diverse presence I think hilari also had a urban flair missing from hgtv.. Bad choice

  5. No way the judges should have chosen Danielle over Hilari. Ridiculous! Hilari has way better design sense and terrific camera presence, too. Danielle's designs are boring and dull. That grey bed? Puhleeze!
Sure, Brittany's pendant lamp and fabric draped from the center looked nice and I admit the rolling bed with hidden storage was clever, but I think Hilary's yurt beat the other two hands down.
And as far as the comment about the so-called "dead space" beside that fabulous bed in Hil's yurt, open space is fine. You don't HAVE to fill every little space with something. Geez!
Anywho – Hilari was robbed. /end of rant

  6. whoever wins HGTV design star (danielle or brittany) I'm NOT watching!! They messed up so much in the camera challenges! How can you expect info to be delivered by people who can't even talk in front of a camera? I would much rather watch Hilary on TV than the other two girls! whenever i saw Hilary she brought a smile to my face when i was feeling sad because of her bright personality! I'm going on strike! HILARY SHOULD HAVE WON!!! the only person i wanted to watch was Hilary so i agree with DissapointedinHGTV, NO NEED TO WATCH ANYMORE!

I WANT HILARY!! on July 17, 2012 at 10:35 pm
    • I want Hilari! Bring back Hilari!

  7. Hgtv im really tired of the same types of host. Hillari was a perfect edition to the network and I feel like hgtv was never really interested in a new personality, just much of the same. These other two women are good as well but they seem to bring designs that feel “been there done that” hilari u were robbed. Hope another network picks u up!

  8. The design challenge was a quaint yurt;
The thought made my cranium hurt!
    But the designers jumped in
And gave the rooms their own spin.
Now, with luck, I'm ready to move in!

  9. One designer chose sumptuous yarn, another boring gray wood, and another glorious swirls.
One designer invited through her transition, the others through words.
Two designer's remaining and the one who chose wisely was sent her way.

  10. HOW BOUT A ROUND BED WITH A SECOND- LEVEL MOROCCAN LOUNGE TABLE UNDER SKYLITE? I LOVE DANIELLE! SHE REALLY NEEDS TO BE THE NEXT "DESIGN STAR" WITH HER OWN SHOW! WE NEED HER ALSO!
