How Would You Decorate a Yurt?

Yurt Before - Exterior

On tonight’s episode of Design Star (tune in at 9/8c), the final three take on a brand new nontraditional home challenge: turn a yurt into a dream bedroom suite. But first: what the heck is a yurt? It’s a portable structure with round walls built on a wood lattice frame.

Though the centuries-old structures originated in central Asia, today they’re used in both old and new ways. You can find them anywhere from vacation communities in the English countryside

  1. Wish we would have had a chance to see what Bex would have done with a yurt. Still voting for her. Check out some of the items in her design slide show-elements from all over the globe. Danielle and Brittany are both good designers. I did not like Hillary's spaces as well as some others on the show. The producers may want a host who will toe the line that they draw. Antonio created some awesome commercial spaces and slightly funky personal home spaces-his program was interesting whether or not you liked his designs. There's so much of the same or similar design info out there-magazines, shows and so on-why not go for interesting? That would be entertaining and might sell more product for the sponsors.

  2. I live in a yurt in northern Michigan for the summer and many weekends throughout the year! I wish I could post pictures of it here. It's beautiful! Most of the furniture is from garage sales and curbsides, but I've made it all colorful and playful and I just love it!

  3. The third picture is not Chinese yurt…It's Kazakh…everything inside it from the dress to ornaments belongs to the traditional KAZAKHSTAN items!!!!
