  1. I was rooting for Hilari this season as well. The judges said that there was dead space in her yurt, but like someone above said, they could have fixed that easily with some plants or something. What gets me about Britney's space is that there was nowhere to sit except on the floor or bed – it literally looked like an oversize bedroom instead of a fully thought out living space. At least Hilari and Danielle's spaces had seating. I think Britney's mistake in doing that was worse than a little 'dead space'. Hilari was so gracious after being cut – I hope somebody out there recognizes her true sense of style and natural talent. I think she still has a great future in design, whatever she decides to do.

    • There is seating in Britney's room… there was a loveseat and chair and ottoman, I looked on the photos online

  2. I guess I'm the only one glad to see Hilari go home. Sorry, but she was too conceited for my taste. I can't stand to see anyone bragg on their own looks ("cute, like me" and "beautiful, just like me" – ugh!). She wasn't bad as a designer, but I couldn't have watched her show. I am not voting for Danielle, as she's a crybaby and can't really think on her feet to solve problems. I like Brittany's designs the best – tasteful, exciting & colorful but very do-able in our own homes. GO BRITTANY!!

    • Hilari's personality rubbed me the wrong way, too!

    • I must say I agree with you. Hillari's personality was good but she did think quite highly of herself which made her unattractive. and Danielle, she needs to grow a backbone!! I have to say GO BRITTANY!!!!

      • AND if she didn't think "quite highly of herself," who would? So interesting to take issue with self-confidence. I will take that any day over false modesty!

    • I agree that Hillari is in love with herself.

      • And thank God she is. It will take her far.

    • I so agree with you! Hilari was charming but also a little annoying at times and tried too hard to be cute and brag about herself. She also needs to have a classier speaking voice and more dignified demeanor for hosting an HGTV show, because a design show is not a sitcom. However, she is a talented designer and I'll think we'll see more of her. I think she would benefit from a voice/speech coach, though (as Emily Henderson would also have benefitted from a voice coach, as much as I do like her). Brittani and Danielle were consistently better throughout most of the season, although Hilari did have some fine moments (and I like how she kept a cool head under pressure). Brittani and Danielle will also need some help to master the hosting aspect b/c clearly neither is comfortable on camera. Danielle has a good speaking voice, but Brittani tends to get a little nasal at times and could also use a voice coach. But overall I still think she's the best for DS, but I like them both.

  3. Well – my bad. I just looked at Britney's space again, and when the camera panned around, there were a couple of places to sit – a chair and what looked like a chaise longue. DUH. Sorry for the confusion.
i still liked Hilari's space (and personality) better.

  4. Huge mistake in not keeping Hilari. She was genuine and funny. "Designers" are a dime a dozen and a little full of themselves. Hilari has talent and personality. I would watch her show because she's funny and entertaining and real. I'm not even interested in watching the finale of Design Star now!

  5. I don't know who—in a romantic, fantasy bedroom—would be spending their time spinning the bed around. It was too huge, too unwieldy. "Heh, Babe, let's go spin that bed again!" I would have kept Hillari because she is the funniest—I like a good sense of humor.

Pookie on July 18, 2012 at 2:27 pm
    • Oh, my fiancé and i would spin that bed around all right. let me tell you….

      inappropriate? whatevs.

    • Agreed…cool and fun in a 1400 sf NYC loft but you have to move all furniture put of the way to move it etc… Seems they have Brittany picked already and Danielle will be less of a threat in the final…who knows…

  6. As a huge fan of HGTV and Design Star, I am really disappointed that Hilari was sent home. Is it just me, or does anyone else expect a greater level of privacy and retreat when I'm on vacation and especially staying in something like a yurt? I didn't even notice that the windows were covered until I read this blog- I don't remember any of the judges saying it during the show either. Her room felt warm, inviting, and luxurious. I wonder if Hilari would have been saved if she made it possible to tie back the silk? And I can't believe nothing was said about the orchids light fixture or the chandelier in Hilari's yurt- they were beautiful! I like the other two designers, but wouldn't tune in for their shows- maybe Britany, but I don't find her relatable. Her room was also giving me more of a bachelor/college dorm feel than a beach bungalow. I thought the bed was way too big. And isn't missing a rug or elements of texture just as bad of a design choice as draping over the windows? It looked more amateur. I think Danielle is a sweetheart and I would hire her if she had lots of time to design, but I think she looks/performs terrible under pressure and that discourages me from wanting to try her projects. I love HGTV, but this is a big downer for me.

    • I loved Hilari's yurt. It was beyond creative and inviting.

It was sad to see her go.

  7. The judges kept stressing the contestants should be camera ready. Hillari's personality and wittiness dances rings around the other two. I'd say she is even more camera ready than David was when he competed. We want to tune in to watch someone who has wit, charm and personality, not some wet dishrag that can throw a vase on a table. No judges, you got it all wrong. Hillari is a Design Star.

  8. Huge mistake in sending Hilari home! HUGE! I probably wont watch the other two boring girls, but I would have watched Hilari's show for sure. Too bad.

Renee on July 18, 2012 at 3:53 pm
  9. that was soooooooooo wrong – eliminating Hillari! :( AT this point, the judging should be on who do you want to watch? Who's entertaining? Of the 3 Hillari is the best. Brittany is just a plastic barbie, but I guess that's what the media wants. Danielle, has the sweetness, but I find that flat and boring.
Too bad. First season ever where, the last 2 left…, I just don't care who wins now. I'd watch neither of their shows. BAD CHOICE, JUDGES!!!!

Dee on July 18, 2012 at 3:55 pm
    • Come on folks! I thought we watched design shows for the DESIGN! If you want funny and entertaining, then watch the comedy channel. Hilari admittedly puts things in a room because she loves them. I can do that too. What we're looking for here is someone who knows good design, can plan a space well, and has a sense of tasteful style. That's Danielle!

Rae on July 18, 2012 at 5:01 pm
  10. It's a circular room. How does it change the look by rotating the bed? It's going to look the same if you decide to move it 10 feet here, 10 feet there. WHAT'S the point. o.0

Dee on July 18, 2012 at 4:01 pm
    • I agree. If you move the bed then you have to move almost everything else in the room. I was glad to see Hillari go.
