Meet The Design Star All Stars Cast

Did you ever wish some of your favorite Design Star contestants from seasons past got a chance to come back and redeem themselves? Wish no more, and mark your calendars: Design Star All Stars is here. Starting July 31 at 9/8c, six of the most memorable designers from the show’s history books will dust off their reality TV skills and compete for a guest spot on an HGTV show and a cash prize.

David Bromstad hosts, and Vern Yip and Genevieve Gorder will return to the Design Panel along with a rotating guest judge. Read on to find out the rest of the familiar faces you’ll see on the show.

Hilari Younger - Design Star All-StarsHilari Younger (Season Seven)

Age: 31

Dallas, Texas

Hilari says she discovered her passion for design as a child when she wanted to redo her bedroom every few months. After studying fashion merchandising and public relations at Howard University and getting on-the-job design training in retail establishments, restaurants, home stores and real estate firms, Hilari found her way to commercial and residential design. Today, she is a mom, a self-employed contractor and interior stylist who has completed dozens of design projects ranging from apartment lobbies to model homes and offices. Inspired by fashion and classic movies, Hilari says she loves reviving vintage looks and defines her style as an eclectic mix of ethnic modern and ornate glamour.

Kellie Clements - Design Star All Stars Contestant Kellie Clements (Season Six)

Age: 33

Edmond, Okla.

A self-described “fireball,” this married mom of two says people sometimes underestimate her   design talent. Originally from Arkansas, Kellie grew up in a creative family. Her parents were artists and allowed Kellie to mix paints and create artwork in their studio. Kellie, who holds a degree in interior design from the University of Central Arkansas, has more than 11 years of professional experience as a designer with a residential builder. She calls her design style “warm contemporary”—that is, it includes lots of color and whimsical touches. As the season six HGTV Design Star “fan favorite,” Kellie is ready to take on new challenges in HGTV Design Star All Stars.

Design Star All-Stars Contestant Leslie EzelleLeslie Ezelle (Season Six)

Age: 44

Dallas, Texas

Leslie, a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, cruise ship entertainer and mom of a blended family, has a wide variety of design experience ranging from remodels to home staging for real estate agents. Leslie, who describes herself as fun with a larger-than-life personality, helps clients “tame their domain” and believes that a stress-free, organized home offers the happiest and healthiest environment. With her preferred design style of “simple, traditional elegance,” she offers a less-is-more design philosophy that’s easy and inexpensive. Above all, Leslie considers herself a survivor. After winning a two-year battle with breast cancer, she is ready to live her dream as the winner of HGTV’s first Design Star All Stars.

Tom Vecchione - Design Star All StarsTom Vecchione (Season 5)

Age: 47

New York, NY

For 24 years, Tom has worked at one of the world’s largest architecture firms. As a design director, he regularly oversees projects for international clientele, many with building budgets in excess of $100 million. His parents encouraged his creativity, leading Tom to study architecture at Cornell and earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture at The New York Institute of Technology. Friends and co-workers describe Tom as a leader and compare his personality to a Jackson Pollack painting: bright, vibrant and filled with dynamic energy.  Although he has an established career doing what he loves, Tom says his experience, energy and ability to thrive under pressure will make him a standout competitor on HGTV Design Star All Stars.

Dan Vickery - Design Star All StarsDan Vickery (Season Four)

Portland, Ore.

Age: 29

Dan, who holds a degree in architecture from the University of Oregon in Portland, was inspired by design at an early age. Watching his mother and grandmother use fabric for quilting captivated Dan’s imagination and eventually led him to a career in architecture and design. After graduation, Dan designed and built homes for a local construction company. He describes his design style as “hip and historic” and says that great design should be grounded in sound architectural aesthetics and accented with modern décor. As the first ever “fan favorite” on season four of HGTV Design Star, Dan hosted his own web series on HGTV.com where he gave helpful tips on designing creative spaces for children.

Sparkle Josh Johnson - Design Star All Stars

Josh Johnson “Sparkle Josh” (Season Two)

Hendersonville, Tenn.

Age: 37

This self-taught Tennessee native is a big fan of Southern glitz and glamour and is ready to expose America to the fabulous technique he calls “glamour layering.” Josh, often the first one to awaken to style his hair, is unapologetic about his over-the-top outfits or his indulgent designs. He is an expert shopper with an eye for unique items and a knack for finding unbelievable bargains. With 16 years of experience in the music, fashion and interior design arenas under his belt, his design philosophy pairs livable elegance with functional luxury and glamour.

  1. So excited! This really isn't fair, though, because we already know that Dan is going to win. He's by far the most talented, but I really do love Tom and Leslie. Kellie is my least favorite, not sure why she was so popular last season.

    • Kellie was popular until she didn't give a homeowner the bunkbeds that the young boy asked for. She was the fan favorite because everyone wanted to get the hated Kathy out of first place. I would much rather see Karl than Kellie.

      • Kellie was popular because she provided great design ideas!!! Loved watching and seeing her work where I was able to do that at my house! Love that she is back!!!!

  3. hilary has a second chance .i am so happy for her. She was cheated out of a chance to have her own t v show. Now maybe the designer magazines will give her a chance because success is all around her.

  5. I completely agree that Karl should be back! But I love Kellie and Leslie, so I'm happy. I started watching in Season 6, so I don't know the 3 guys, but Dan sounds really good! What I love is how it starts right after Season 7 (did it seem short to anyone else?!). Looking forward to it!

    • Yes, Season 7 was too short. Two double eliminations were not a good idea. Not only do they give us fewer shows to watch, it doesn't give us a chance to find out about the designers. I am for zero double eliminations, but producers, if you must do it, limit them to one–and don't tell the contestants about it. Use that card only a group produces a bad product, like the Trump Room a few seasons ago.

  8. Isn't Kellie the "I'm not giving the child a bunk bed even though he asked for it" person? That did it for me—I don't understand, therefore, why she is back. Bumming out a child—a design mistake with no hope for recovery in my book.

    • Kellie later explained that the only bunk bed in stock was awful. I can't remember if it was quality or style. The store refused to sell any floor models, so she had to improvise. I believe the young man eventually got his bunk beds.

DSWatcher on July 18, 2012 at 4:41 pm
      • The parents were going to get the boy bunkbeds, HGTV did not give them any. Kellie was full of excuses but she had a carpenter who could have built bunkbeds. She lost a lot of her fans after that.

        • CL wish you could have been a fly on the wall. The family did not chip in for our budgets and there was no offer to buy the beds. I did try my hardest to buy him bunks at a store but that was not shown ( because that store does not advertise with the network they did not show me shopping there). I haggled with the store on the phone and in person and they refused to sell them to me off the floor. There were some at one other store I shopped at but they were really gawd awful! They were "vintage" but not in a good way. Very 80's! You know the black metal ones with decals of baseballs and gross stain colors. They looked like they belonged in a trailer park. I would have been reamed for that as well and honestly I would NEVER put one of those in a room. I did the best I could think to do with the time and resources. My budget wouldn't cover a new mattress, two sets of bedding AND the lumber for the bunk beds. It was a tough one. Too bad all my efforts to do that were not shown in the final footage. There is really sooooo much more that goes on that the viewers never see. Hope you are enjoying this season. It's a pretty good group!

Kellie on July 19, 2012 at 10:21 pm
          • oh yes and one more thing….once it was permissible I contacted the family to apologize and Mason does now have his bunk beds ;)

Kellie on July 20, 2012 at 8:11 pm
    • I agree. I really didnt like Kellie!
