The mentor and host joined the design panel this week as guest judge. See his critiques of the designs + why the panel chose Danielle.

  1. This newest season has been the worst. Too much product placement i.e., (David's red Volvo). The guest judges throw the show off-balance. Either they are not professional designers/decorators and therefore are not qualified to give a professional opinion, and/or they have not been consistantly there to watch how the contestants grow (or not) each week. We fans are not watching the show to see judge stars, we want to see the designers design. How Brittany did not win this title is a mystery to me. She has been consistantly on the winning team, whereas Danielle has not and been mostly fretting about not using her time management properly. This show is becoming stale. I love David Bromstad, but his advice and camera stints only slow down the pace of the show. We want to see designers design!!

  2. Her show will not last. Come on. Just like, how often do you see Antonio's show on the line-up. Oh, and when you do it is usually a rerun (not that I would watch that so-called designer). HGTV wants to "be different" from time to time, and it will bite them in the butt again I have no doubt. I can see Britanny's HGTV.com show getting moved to their televised line-up when Danielle's fails. Britanny's already got the fan base, Danielle doesn't, and she is not design worthy enough to expand the small following that she has from the show.

  3. If nothing else, just look at the outfit that Danielle wore the last night. WHY??!! Did she have nothing else in her closet. Were the staff trying to make her look bad? Getting off her outfit for a moment, there are major changes that need to happen. Vern and G need to either be replaced or be supplemented by the viewer's voice (kind of like Dancing with the Stars – 50% & 50%); them having full control is degrading the quality of the shows product.

  4. I realize that guests were brought in throughout the season, but in the end, it was just Vern and G (David probably voiced his opinion more because there was a tie, but as a mentor that should not be his job – I also remember when David did not do that well in front of a camera so mentoring was a perfect role for him but he should have STAYED in that role). As a family therapist, I would bet that Britanny's family loves their design, now that it is to late to have an effect – that is what is sooo sad. People have an idea in their minds and it takes a few minutes to reset the picture. Problem is that the winner was decided before they were able to voice opinions once that reset took place.
Hopefully Britanny will enjoy her HGTV.com show and perhaps it will be successful enough to move to televised line-up, I would love that for her. she has worked so hard for this opportunity.

  6. Brittney and her designs are both beautiful and glamorous. I love beautiful rooms too. However, we already have Candice (my fav), had Dina and the mother-daughter team from Dallas.

Danielle's concept for her show is more well suited to a variety of styles and tastes. Therefore, it will draw interest from a lot more viewers. She incorporated the client's needs, wants, taste, style and used some of their own pieces in her design. She even used pictures (the client's) not her own in the design too. Brittney's show concept was called "Picture Perfect" because she wanted incorporate her own pictures which to me was just an element in the room design, not enough to carry a whole show for very long.

Danielle will reach a broader audience. Glam is only one style there are so many others just as there are many ethnic groups. .I say that to say, It is refreshing to see representation by all types of personalities, ethnicity and/or gender.

This season's show was the best ever. The judges didn't come off overly stern and stuffy. It even had humor. David was a welcome addition. You picked a real all around winner with him.

p.s. Danielle is a natural beauty inside and out. I see why she won. I wish Brittany the best and hope her fans give Danielle a chance.

p.s.s I can also see some of the others working together in a future show of some type.

  7. Did not need guest judges especially the K.J. family invading every space they can push their way into.
I skipped watching the show that night.

  8. Congrats Danielle. I loved your final room. Until I heard David explain what the deciding factor was between you and Brittany, I couldn't put my finger on why Brittany's room didn't fit. Hers was traditional/modern even though the clients requested modern/contempary. I love Brittany's room but I love traditional. If I had asked for modern and she gave me traditional, I would've been upset.
HGTV, can you at least give Danielle a year to develope her show before you give a former competitor from DS 7 a show? I write that because it is becoming the trend. I want to know more about vintage buying and am looking forward to Danielle's show.
After DS 5, I stopped watching Design Star. I do enjoy Meg's show but I don't know or care how she won the show.
Again, good luck Danielle. If Brittany is one of those former competitors that gets her own show, please listen to the client and give them what THEY want instead of inposing your style.

  9. I am sooo glad Danielle won she was the powerhouse of the two. Danielle was able to transform the clients space while keeping all they had in the rooms and add her design touches. Being able to incorporate existing items and make a room shine as such and still make the clients comfortable in their own space, Danielle, you are amazing.
ps Brittany, David was able to pull off his dual talent of painting art an design but the photography and design did not translate here, sorry.

  10. Danielle’s designs were great and I will enjoy watching her show so I can get tips on shopping for pieces and how to create the design with my finds. I will surely look for like finds and recreate a similar room based on what Danielle shows us.
