  1. I agree that it is a design competition, I just wish the best designer would win. Leslie did a nice space but it wasn't a great designed space. Her deck had two chairs, I think we could all manage that, even Tom's outdoor space had a design element. I just wish we got more of the decision making process so maybe this choice would make more sense. This was such a short series, only four episodes, that I don't really think they could say that the totality of Leslie's work made her the winner. Did she win because her camera challenges improved from when she was on Design Star? I would think that they should have been judged only on what happened on All Stars otherwise Tom would have had to explain that blue bathroom! We saw such a small clip of the camera challenge that it's really hard to believe that Hillari's personality did not come across. Since they were only vying for a guest spot, was the camera challenge really that important? Wouldn't being able to work with others be just as important? Once again shouldn't the best designer win? I just really feel bad for HIlari, she was the best designer, with the best personality on two shows.

  2. Check out Wikipedia's definition of Designstar All*Stars: It states that Tom is the winner!!!

    • I wish that were so – I loved his room – simply brilliant.

  3. I'm so bummed; my computer crashes a few minutes into the episode, just like it did with episodes 2 & 3. It sounds like there's alot of dissention about the winner! While I haven't actually seen the spaces yet, I agree that seeing/understanding how the judges decide who wins would make alot more sense to the viewers. Then again, maybe HGTV doesn't want to give us that option, which then gets us thinking/talking/arguing/re-designing/involved in what went down. I agree: This is a design competition. Are camera challenges all that critical to design? Despite everything said about Sparkle Josh, I loved him and his designs were eclectic, unique, one-of-a-kind, and in his season, there were no camera challenges, so to send him packing because he didn't nail the 'interview' portion was ridiculous. Same as for Dan's green wall; while I didn't like his color choice, I think his designs are over-the-top fantastic, original, and I'd like to see more. Tom's designs are just classy, thoughtful, well-executed albeit a bit cluttered, but to me are timeless. Hilari's are always full of energy, color, life, personality, and she will go far in her own right. I think Leslie has come a long way from the scattered, chatty contestant she was on her series; she has unique ideas, always chooses fabulous coffeetables, and her designs have evolved, as has she. Congrats, Leslie!!!

  4. I still wished for something good for Dan. Gen did not like him during his season. She loooooooved Antonio. See where her taste lead her. His showed bombed big time. I think for Design All Star if they bring this show back–they need fresh judges. Judges that have already made their decisions in past seasonsand were out-voted come in like warriors for their favorites. DAN never stood a chance with Gen-as a judge.

I DVR last night so I could just see the finals–I agree Leslie room was not of HGTV quality,. I thought Tom's room was elegant-and Hilari's room was pretty and practical.

There is plenty of time on HGTV to give gooooood designers a show and build audiences -I like property brothers-but why two shows. HGTV Go back to DESIGN and not REAl ESTATE. Our homes are our biggest investments and design is what we want most.

  5. I cannot believe Hilari did not win!! Genevieve sounded biased from the get-go. So tired of her false smiles. Will not watch her show again. Leslie's design was very childish and was definitely not he best and with her personality, I will NOT be watching her show. HGTV, you need to get new judges for Design Star, Genevieve Gorder just does not cut it!

  6. Amen to what Lystra said. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw the bias. Count me out for watching Leslie's show too. I made a mistake and thought that Hilari had won as a design star. But unfortunately Danielle won. I don't think I'll be watching her show either.

    • ll turquoise, please give Danielle show a try. I watched it–she does some pretty interiors and she is so pleasant. It is lighthearted-I know how disappointed you can be when you want someone to win–it is like that almost every year.

  7. From the Design Star Handbook:
-Never paint walls any variation of salmon. Genevieve says it looks like "organ meat".
-Never paint walls bright green. This color is also reason to be sent home immediately.
-For the White Box challenge, the space should have little to no appearance to a functional room.
-Accept that the judges' comments may seem arbitrary and biased, but remember they are "the experts" (which they will gladly confirm).

Disclaimer: The above comments are my way of expressing dissatisfaction with the judging on this show. There are no copywrites, so you are free to reprint, distribute, or ignore as you wish.

    • maybe the judges remembered the organ meat comment…the color was too intense for a small room…
hilari can pick out a sofa but that fact doesn't make her a designer…same with leslie and her coffee tables…tom had a plan which is the best way to approach design…and his drawings were to die for…hey tom come on over…he's got so much talent..

  8. Leslie won??!!! Really?? With that cluttered mess? I feel like this show's results was like a twilight zone episode….both Tom & Hillary's designs were a lot better…what is the point of them stressing that the outdoors space was important when the person who won is the one who put the least thought & effort into it…I'm so sick of designers who think that chalk board paint is so nice….please, that paint shouldn't be put anywhere but a playroom. Do they realized what happens when kids get their hands on chalk? Colorful dust EVERYWHERE! This lady puts a box on the wall, a mattress with a damn ugly curtain stapled to it(no mention of this by the judges), 2 hanging impractical benches on the wall, even the room had sufficient space for those benches I don't see how they can be practical…Leslie's room looked like the before picture and tom's & Hilary's look like the finished after pictures with 2 different ideas of what the space could be depending on taste…sorry Tom & hillary you both got robbed!!

    • So Leslie won??? I couldn't agree with you more. Leslie's space was a hot mess. Perhaps the judges factored in the two previous times when she was deemed the winner; both times when working with others. Perhaps it was her camera challenges, which were somewhat entertaining. Her winning status could not be because of that jumbled, cluttered eyesore that she produced for the finale. Can't imagine that photo on the cover of any magazine, unless it is a 'How to De-clutter Your Space' guide. The judges clearly made their decision based upon factors that had nothing to do with designing. I am truly disappointed with them. What a shame!

  9. Hillari did the best job, hands down! Her design was far superior to the other two, and her on-camera presence was so appealing! I thought Leslie's design, with the exception of the terrific Murphy bed, was cluttered — too many small objects — and her grammar was not that great at all! Hillari added the outdoor "room" which was such an asset to the small building! She is relaxed and professional on camera, and a skilled designer! I was extremely disappointed that she did not win!

  10. Leslie's room looked like that spare bedroom that you've never gotten around to decorating – full of hand me downs, garage sale finds, and stuff that didn't cut it in the rest of your house. No sense of design or style. And she just put out patio furniture from a big box store on her deck as an afterthought. #3 in my book.

    • Yes, and I thought it was weird that it was so cluttered considering her skill as a designer – it wasn't up to her usual level.
