  1. I love Antonio, in my opinion he is the most talented. Even with the time restraints he builds things rather than just go to a store to buy. Hey give me enough money and I can go buy delicious things myself. He is different and that is the charm. He's real, he's sincere and he won't go against his ethics even to win. I like Dan and Lonnie very much but I would rather watch a show with Antonio without him playing beat the clock. He would be wonderful

    • Exuse me but Antonio Bought the things in the office. The map was the best idea and that was ordered. At least he thought of the idea. Dan did the art work, sewed the curtains and created the mobile. Just because he takes off his shirt and paints doesn't mean he is copying David – no one should try to copy David, he is one of a kind. Dan and Lonni did a much better job than Antonio and I for one have no interest in watching a show with a loud mouthed egotist who sometimes looks like a street person.

      • Um, he didn't buy the map, he knew where to go to have it custom made to his specs.

        OkieJohn2 on September 9, 2009 at 11:26 pm
        • Antonio did buy he map. The store representative told Antonio what he could do and Antonio agreed and purchased that map. Name just ONE thing that Antonio actually designed. The closest he came to designing was Conner's headboard but that wasn't real design work either because 5 year old Conner himself could have painted rocks like that. Antonio has NO design skills. This is a DESIGN STAR competition, not set builder brag star on the neck competition.

    • OK….why didn't he BUILD a gazebo in the back yard challenge? In the time it took them to shop for one plus the time he took to lay sod (why didn't they use the landscapers for that?) he and Dan could have built a nice simple gazebo from redwood or some other natural wood and it WOULD have fit the ZEN theme beautifully.

    • What the heck are you thinking???? Do you know anything about design?? Antonio's office was awful! The only good idea he had was the map. The table, chairs, and rug in front of the fireplace was pathetic! Come ON…… Scale is one of the most important aspects in design! Puulease….. where is the design talent here? The judges ARE going to choose him as the winner ONLY because they are looking for something different. I would bet my life on him winning. SHAME ON THESE JUDGES!

    • Antonio can't do anything that isn't 2 dimensional. There was nothing special about that office. Please metal desks with magnet boards? I've worked in an office for 40 years and a magnet board would be useless. Pushpins yes, magnets no. Magnet boards beling in childrens rooms so they can learn the alphabet. I suspect the people working for Kathy already know the alphabet. And that punching? Please, give me Dan's giggle any day. Antonio should have gone home. That headboard might not have gotten hung in time, but it was magnificent. I'm not wild about the amount of grasscloth used. Low or no VOC paint would have been just as eco friendly. But Lonni's presentation style is very relaxed. And in last week's show she showed she can be really fun. Relaxing by the pool getting mannis and pedis. That was adorable.

    • He is not a designer. His work is boring and he has a terrible personality. I wouldn't watch show if it was the only thing on HGTV.

  2. GREAT JOB DAVID! Your analysis and critique are absolutely perfect! You really know what you are viewing and it is good to know that you feel the same way that I do, except that I sincerely feel that Antonio should have been eliminated and Lonni should have gone on to the finals. One little mishap with the headboard, which wasn't her fault and her beautiful wall applications got her eliminated – I have to question the judges thinking on this one.

    • ROTTEN JOB DAVID!!!!

  3. I ve got to agree with David. Loved Lonnies room. Loved the focal wall. The room was just beautiful and I think we should have gotton past the headboard thing. I'm not sure she should have been sent home. I liked Dans Nursery overall, The artwork was great, just wasn't crazy about the area rug. I lke Dan, I don't think the giggling hurts him in anyway. Lets face it here people. They are under a huge amount of stress and this will be a huge break for someone. Give him a break, wouldn't you be nervous. As far as Antonios office. I agree with David, he should have done something with that fireplace. The overall appearance was interesting. But when looking at the scale of the furniture you see that he must not have put alot of time and thought into that part of the room. I do think he has a unique persona and think he would be well liked on his own show. I have to say I absolutely love love David. Knowone will be able to top him. He is talented and I never get tired of looking at him.

    • I totally agree about the rug area! That put a bit of a damper on my enthusiasm for the room. Which is a pity 'cos his room was really good. This rug area with the 2 chairs just didn't look cohesive with the rest of the room.

lizzy on September 8, 2009 at 7:37 pm
      • I liked the dark/light browns in that rug and liked how it brought the little pony and mirror frame in coordination and also gave the feeling of being firmly grounded on the shore as people could relax in front of the TV, and if Mom needs to change the baby, she doesn't have to miss a part of the show she is watching to do that. A TV like that is hung strongly enough that there is no worry about it falling off the wall. The well chosen colors in the brown rug grounded the watery feeling in the rest of the room very well. Another great plan idea from the ever so talented Dan.

  4. PS. I love Dan's giggle, he really enjoys what he is doing. Much better to view and hear than Antonio's ego trip llingo.

trishaze on September 8, 2009 at 4:40 pm
    • Hmmmm…you must not have seen or heard all the encouraging comments Antonio has made to all the contestant competitors? He helped Lonnie finish one of her designs; he encouraged the guy who went home last week after his room bombed – saying "…maybe your hosting skills will carry you through…" or something to that effect. Tori was the one in last week'sepisode to talk about teaming up, indicating that "….maybe it could be 3 against one…" Dan's giggling? Even when Vern is poinnting that out to him on the video, Dan starts giggling oncontrollably on stage, and Vern had to say, "See, you are doing it now." His incessant giggling make him look a little unintelligent, imo.

      1HippieChick on September 8, 2009 at 5:04 pm
      • I have seen Antonio's helpful moments, and know that egotistic people like him do that for additional ego lifts and not for simply helping someone in need. Have you not see how many times Dan has comforted the others??? Dan is genuine; his caring personality, his giggles (which show he loves his work and has a pleasant personality), his ingenuity, creativity, multiple skills, great hosting (the laughs only happen when his client is pleased – watch the videos again), Dan has it all. I do fear that Antonio has been pre-chosen because they have kept him on here too long with his lack of design ability and street language and poor appearance. Something seems very wrong here with keeping Antonio and eliminating Lonni who had the best reaction from her design work.

trishaze on September 8, 2009 at 6:31 pm
        • Dan just can't cut it. I hope he falls flat on his face.

          davi9520 on September 11, 2009 at 9:30 pm
  5. David should be a judge next time, if not the ONLY judge! Every one of his comments if right on!

cbwc on September 8, 2009 at 4:45 pm
  6. My belief is that the judges eliminate based on each contestant's cumulative performance. Lonnie's downfall is never finishing on time, and she came across as extremely tired!. Aren't establishing timelines part of the process? Could the wallpaper been hung earlier in the day so that the headboard could have been hung earlier? I got the impression that had the installers had a little more time, the headboard would have been hung.

Dan's giggling is a problem for me – very distracting, and I think had he not pulled off a room like he did on Sunday's episode, he is the one who would have been eliminated. David B is my favorite, but one "giggler" is enough. :) Imitating David Bromstad in Sunday's episode will hurt him, imo.

Antonio has stood out from the beginning – cumulatively, he should be in the lead, in my book. Brings a totally different look to HGTV which doesn't need another David Bromstad (Dan), or any more blonde females (Lonnie.). Look at the program lineup on HGTV. Blond explosion!

    1HippieChick on September 8, 2009 at 4:45 pm
  7. Why are so many people saying Dan is a clone of David. David is unique in his own style and I see Dan's style as different and unique as well. The two of them would design the same room differently. There are elements of design that will run across board, but at least Dan and David both have unique ways of making a room look great with a special unique creative design, whether it be paintings or constructed elements, some other feature, or a combination of these and other unique elements. They both ROCK!

trishaze on September 8, 2009 at 4:48 pm
    • Agreed !

DivineIsInTheDetails on September 8, 2009 at 5:15 pm
    • I am sorry that you cannot see what many are seing. On DS and on HGTV there is only one designer that has as his signature paintings that he provides with his designs. I have not seen any other designer in any other show do that, and I am sure that most or them if not all of them know or could paint, and provide a painting in their designs. They don't do it, because "that signature" is already taken.
Sorry, taking shirts off and providing paintings is David B signaturel and by the way. Dan giggles, Davif B laughs. believe me, that is a great difference.

      rker321 on September 8, 2009 at 5:48 pm
      • Have a little common sense please. When it is hot guys take their shirts off – David doesn't have a patent on taking off a shirt for God's sake. Also, David is not the only designer in the world that will add a painting when one is needed to present an effect that will coordinate with a scheme. David's paintings are a signature element for him and Dan does it once and you all want to make him a clone – get real. So many designers use artwork, and if they have the talent to paint (Lonni, Antonio, & Dan all have used painting for effects on this series) then that is a plus. If everyone eliminated things/signature components that other designers have capitalized upon, there would be absolutely NO design left. Think about it!

trishaze on September 8, 2009 at 6:41 pm
      • So from one canvas in a single challenge and it's suddenly somehow expounded to 'if Dan wins he will always have a personally painted canvas in his designed/decorated spaces because he's going to become a David clone'?

The producers told him to take the shirt off, he took it off, big tinkling deal. Taking a shirt off = David clone? So Todd, Robb, Matt Locke – they're all David clones too? Give me a freaking break! What kind of ludicrous assumption is that?

Ally on September 8, 2009 at 10:24 pm
      • You need to watch more HGTV then.

Virtually every single designer on Design On A Dime has provided original artwork for their clients. Most notably among them is Kahi Lee who provides personalized painting for nearly all of her clients on the show. So, this does not belong to David exclusively.

As for the shirt, I remember seeing Carter O. take his shirt off on a couple segments. I even saw one of the stills on the HGTV website once. So, is Carter a copy cat of David as well? Or is it possible that any designer (with a good body) might take his shirt off when working in the heat?

        JRM4 on September 9, 2009 at 12:40 am
        • Don't forget Ty Pennington; he often had his shirt off. Of course, I know that was on Trading Spaces which was on TLC.

  8. Loni has only one statement, its the same thing over and over again….. I dont like Dan, think he's boring, the mobile was ok, it was kind of plain.. the rug had to go, and I believe the room was so overcrowded. Antonio, was ok, too… love the map, but I believe their's alot of talent here, he's good…not boring, he should be the next HGTV Design Star…

Linda on September 8, 2009 at 4:49 pm
  9. I just about COMPLETELY agree with David this time. I get that Dan was nervous, but he needs to let that go! I mean, I know when I get to the point of being on this show (in a minimum of 6 years but still) I know that one of my biggest problems will be giggling too. I understand Dan's problem. That & David, your giggle is cuter than Dan's. Antonio could have used some more fun & ACCESSORIES! & TOTALLY agree about the fireplace thing. YOU DO NOT COVER A FIREPLACE WHEN IT'S THERE! That's like covering up a GOLD MINE! Antonio should have gone home. Dan's room was good, but he was stiff in his presentation as well. He had been relaxed in past presentations (except for giggling) & this week he stiffens up! I agree about leaving her alone about the focal walls. They are absolutely FABULOUS! & you're totally right, David, they're her signature style! Why mess with it? Lonni's sweet & confident & down to earth & a TALENT! Antonio should have left. Not Lonni. That would have been cool to see 3 in the final (think Next Food Network Star Season 4). But yes I actually pretty much agree with you this week, David. Good anaylisis! :)

  10. I loved Lonni's room…it was much better than Antonio's office…Antonio should have gone home this week…..or even sooner…He has a terrible attitude just like Rob did and Michael acted like a spoiled brat (if anyone remembers)…also Tracee….anyway, I hope that Dan wins…he's been pretty consistent in his good designs….the gazebo I don't think that he thought was gonna turn out so plain…..
