  1. antonio was always my favorite. dan is cool but hgtv has several shows that are dan-like and i think they can do something totally different with antonio. as for design, dan might be the stronger designer but antonio is always reaching so i think once he gets a staff, he'll be able to bring the heat. it wouldn't be a bad idea to put antonio and dan together on a show.

    • I wish the viewers got to vote, but guess that is why they went with the designers so they could get something different from there other shows, Dan is a much better designer, Antonio is a builder, Good luck to them both.

    • I could not agree more. HGTV needs to spice up their line-up a little more. All of their shows have the same flavor, Antonio will be a much needed change. I can't wait to see what kind of show he brings to us.

JMD on September 14, 2009 at 4:10 pm
    • Yup, once Antonio gets a staff, one that includes an actual DESIGNER, he can actually tackle designing. Antonio could be hugely successful at building what his staff designs. Antonio's "show" kicks off next Sunday. The man does not have the personality or the likeability to carry it and, while the first show may get high ratings as people tune into see the spectacle, it will quickly flop. An abrasive, in-your-face style may seem "refreshing" initially, but it simply is not something that people will keep coming back to. Good job, HGTV – two consecutive years of a Design Star winner that cannot actually carry the show they win. Sadly, these judges, while creative designers in their own right, are not able to choose a design star winner without the online voting of the viewers.

    • Sorry to see David was made to support the company line. The viewers are smarter than that HGTV…afterall we have been watching Candice and David for years and we KNOW good Design. Dan had talent and Antonio has only carpentry skills. You can post whatever you want here and take down all the negative comments, but you lost thousdands of viewers. I don't think Antonio has that kind of appeal to your audience. TLC ARMY WIVES…here I come!

DISGUSTED on September 14, 2009 at 5:27 pm
    • It is not right that Dan lost because he looks like David. Dan is a stronger designer than both Kim Myles and Jenn – I hope they can find something for him somewhere because he certainly deserves it

Peggy on September 14, 2009 at 5:42 pm
    • I thought the deal was, that as a surprise the viewing audience was going to also pick their favorite. So who was that?

Donna on September 14, 2009 at 6:09 pm
    • Antonio was also my favorite from the start…..he has a much different style in all categories. However, I felt that there was a lot of "staging" every week (in other words it seemed like the winner of each show was already determined prior to the judges voting). Anyway, I'm glad Antonio won and I'm looking forward to his program.

    • If I were Dan, I would not share a show with Antonio only to be bossed around. Dan's the better designer by far. How difficult it was to watch the non-studio audience finale and all the edited clips that HGTV put together. Hearing the judges try and make Antonio's design seem OK (at least not offensive) was funny. The HGTV viewers aren't that design-illiterate! Please, we all know who should have won. DAN, even Lonni, how about Nathan?? Anyone antonio.

Can't watch anymore on September 14, 2009 at 9:52 pm
    • Dan was definitely the stronger designer. I would not live in the house that Antonio "designed". He living room was awful and the cabinet was ugly. Dan was by hands down the best designer of the whole show. I feel really bad that the judges could not see that Antonio is not a person that can design but rather than a person that can build a couple of things. His interpretation of the master bedroom is like YELLING HELP ME. It would make me want to commit suicide to try to sleep in that room,

Dan's whole design was modern, elegant and would be a home that the majority of Americans would dream about living in.

Judges You are WRONG and must be delusional if you think that Antonio is a better designer that Dan. I just hope that Dan gets the online show even though he should have gotten the TV Show.

    • antonio makes italian americans sound ridiculous, we
really don't speak like that. what a joke to have him represent design star. dan is such a better designer. so far only david bromstar gets it done.

    • i agree Antonio was my favorite too! he was brilliant and bold, and it irks me that the online world is so petty they cant be happy for him….

SMILEYCHIPPER on September 16, 2009 at 9:43 pm
    • Well, did you watch Antonio's new show? It clearly showed he has absolutely no design skills what so ever!!! You could not pay me to let him design my home. That was worse than design on a dime. No class, total trash!

antonio on September 26, 2009 at 10:40 pm
    • America should vote. You know it was fixed this year when they voted. Oh well, now they have a show not a series because that was the only one that will be made. Im sure it was a flop. I saw that the following sunday it was not on the guide. No surprise HGTV. Antonio's design skills suck.

antonio on October 1, 2009 at 9:07 pm
  2. David may be welcoming Antonio but I doubt America will! I won't watch his show. It was obvious that Vern thought Dan was the stronger designer. So, surprise, guess we know who voted for Antonio. Good luck Dan. Hope this helps your career. You deserve much success.

      • I will too. I've watched every season of Design Star and watched each winner's respective shows, just to give them a chance. So I freely admit to being a Color Splash fanatic, I've watch all three season of Myles of Style, and in fact, I'm really digging Jen Bertrand's new show at the moment. The fact that she went on to continue filming this show while her baby boy has so many health issues, wow, she's a supermom.

Antonio we'll definitely get the opportunity to hook me…whether he will or not, I'm not so sure of.

I'm hoping that Dan win's the online vote, I'll definitely be tuning in to that should he get it.

    • I agree, I wont watch a loudmouth yo there guy. He was arrogant on the show and surprise peopl e who watch the shows like to see things they can possibly do in their homes and not many like garish ugly rooms. Dan was robbed and I think the show not having viewers input, only the 3 judges, no previous season winner was on the last show, the other designers or showing their families like previous shows was a mistake. I will have to think hardeer next time before watching every design star.

andrea on September 14, 2009 at 4:07 pm
    • I won't watch..even if they give him a designer…who cares? It was supposed to be a contest and Dan clearly had better style and design sense. Doesn't take a genius to see that! Shame on Vern Candice and Dear sweet Gen!

LOST me HGTV on September 14, 2009 at 5:30 pm
    • Yes. Best wishes to Dan and Lonni! They both are soooo talented and I would have enjoyed either of their shows on TV! HGTV should listen to the fans instead of taking down their negative posts about Antonio…Oh, too late, they already hired him weeks ago. Gues they are stuck with him for a year contractually.

Can't fool us on September 14, 2009 at 5:33 pm
    • I agree with Holly! Antonio has no style – personal or otherwise! HGTV always says – listen to your client. I know Candace does, and she is one of my favorites! Dan always did – Antonio never did. His designs were cookie cutter and shabby chic. I want to be inspired – Dan always did that. Shame on HGTV for picking Antonio. I won't be watching either!!!

Dan will do fine with a nice portfolio and the experience will look 5*** in a Resume! but no only cute face and good talent but GREAT natural talent did won this time, Antonio will do fine with some manners classes to speak well in fron of the cameras, I know you will end up watching the show next week!!! lol =)

      • I won't, he gives me the creepy crawlys, can't even stand the commericals with him in it/will change channel. I almost didn't make it through the finale challenge. Use to keep it on HGTV, but they've lost this viewer, but since last nite only watched 2 shows.

          • This was not just a TV show; it was a contest and HGTV played with the videos. The best designer did not win because they rigged it.

trishaze on September 16, 2009 at 2:37 am
      • Regardless of the lack of manners, the bad attitude, refusal to accept responsibility, inability to work well with others, Antonio is missing one key ingredient to a successful design show – the actual design talent. Put that boy in all the charm schools you want, it still will not yield a successful design show. Lack of viewership will ultimately cancel the show. What a waste.

    • David, your show is awesome and I am sure you are not allowed to post what you really thought. Dan has so much design sense, it is a shame that it ended this way. And deleting all the 3000+ comments supporting Dan is so uncool. Hope Dan had a chance to see that America loved his designs! These fake comments supporting Antonio on the home page are too transparent…The editing HGTV is doing is outrageous and misleading. Anyone know about False Advertising??? Stop making it seem like the 3000 were in favor of Antonio when they weren't…"wow"

    • Couldn't agree with you more. I felt Antonio was an overbearing thug. As a former Dental Hygienist I had a hard time viewing the smile with fangs. Won't be tuning in on anything he does.

lowcountrygirl on September 15, 2009 at 12:02 am
    • I know I will not be watching Antonio's show…I'm a "YO there" person either, plus have a hard time getting over the fangs!!!….He really needs to get some dental work done before his show…We all know Dan was the true winner…maybe HGTV will correct their wrong and give him a show….hahahahaha NOT….television people are not that smart to listen to their viewers.

Kim on September 15, 2009 at 2:18 am
    • I agree completely. Dan has done so much better in all of his designs. The only things really that weren't the best, according to viewers and judges was the pergola and the hosting. His hosting wasn't even bad! I didn't even notice any giggling except maybe a few casual little laughs, but that made him seem more friendly to me, but not over the top like Antonio.

Natalie on September 15, 2009 at 2:23 am
    • I totally agree with you Holly, this was certainly an unfair competition and one based on a lack of good design judgement. Dan is clearly the best designer of this batch. I guess someone needs to wipe the brown off of their nose after being crowned "Design Star"….shame on you judges who proclaim to be professional. I won't be watching anymore of your shows, much less HGTV. Maybe DIY network can come up with a fair contest?????

Sam Jones on September 15, 2009 at 6:24 am
    • I totally agree with the fact that Dan got screwed big time in not winning.
Antonio has a major attiude problem, he is too controling and when he refused to paint the walls in that home tan, he has no business being the Design Star and had been sent packing. If a client asks a Designer to paint their walls tan, the Designer has to make the client happy by honoring their request. Dan is another David and the Best Design Star since David, no one else has come close.
Both David and Dan had the Best white room designs in Design Star History.

Edwina Benham on September 15, 2009 at 2:24 pm
    • i agree with you 100%. Dan definitely has more of the likability factor and I believe he would of captured a much wider audience base. Antonio is a bit rough and offensive. I wonder why Design Star went with the judges picking the winner verses America voting. I do believe that Dan would have won if it was up to America. Oh well, I am with you. I won't be watching Antonio's show.

Elsie on September 15, 2009 at 2:57 pm

Lynne on September 19, 2009 at 12:47 am
  3. This is my first season watching this show. I believe the right person won. Antonio made it to the Design Star winner with honesty. Did anyone think for a minute that maybe the judges may actually have morals and integrity and took into consideration the fact that Dan actually out and out lied about the money he was given to spend on that stupid gazebo? He may have had better design ideas, but I can't watch or look at him on a show week after week knowing he is dishonest.

Brenda Lawrence on September 14, 2009 at 2:16 pm

      • Is this the one written by Dan's Aunt? One has already been debunked by Mancave as being written by Dan's relative and Dan acknowledged the inaccurate and said personally that he and Torrie were alone responsible for the pergola over-budget debacle.

PaintyKat on September 15, 2009 at 4:56 am
    • You need to know that HGTV edited that episode to look like the discrepancy was the gazebo. That problem was solved earlier and downsized to a $5000. The $5000 was something else altogether. Dan had agreed in the contract that HGTV had all rights to edit as they wished. He was astonished when the controversy played out as it did. HGTV are the ones that are the dishonest ones on that episode not Dan. So I hope you will rethink your position now that you have all the information.

      newsjunky1 on September 14, 2009 at 2:31 pm
      • You are absolutely correct!! And that is why Sir Clive was miraculously dancing around the set with the $5000,00 in his padded pocket. How convenient was that!?

Moscowjoe on September 14, 2009 at 2:36 pm
    • Morals and integrity – Antonio? LOL! He had his disgusting little paws all over the pergola fiasco. He talks to and about women very degradingly. He's repulsive in every sense. The only people who could possibly be fans of Antonio's are other boorish men and women with low self-asteem.

SusanS on September 14, 2009 at 3:26 pm
    • When Torie, Dan And Antonio were in the van and Torie was handing out money, she told Dan she was guving him 10k, and Antonio commented on it. I didn't see Dan count the money, so I believe he actually thought he had 10k.

      Linda L. on September 14, 2009 at 5:01 pm
      • Linda, you're almost right. We've recorded it and re-watched it several times. She gave him $5K, he repeated, "$5K", then Antonio said, "$10K" which is what confused Dan. Dan was right that it was an honest mistake. The leader was ultimately responsible for the budget. She should have either written everything down for everyone or should have been the one to sign off on the money.

kittyb on September 15, 2009 at 4:23 am
        • Linda was correct. If you watch the van ride again, Torie told Dan she was giving him $10,000. She may have only given him $5000, but she said she was giving him 10K.

gawgagirl on September 15, 2009 at 4:42 am
    • Actually, if you go back and re-watch that episode, Dan and Torie are sitting in the backseat of the van, Torie hands Dan what she says is $10,000, and tells him to count it while she finishes her sketch. Confusion reined in that whole episode because, while Torie was team leader, she took zero leadership. Antonio opted to tell everyone what to do, what looked good, and what needed to be done differently, yet he took zero responsibility for aligning his ideas with an actual budget. Antonio was standing in that shop alongside Dan planning and getting the initial quote for the pergola. Dan made a huge error in judgment by signing that contract. My DVR'd episode clearly shows Dan accepting full responsibility in a personal interview, as well as apologizing to Torie in the green room. At the same time, Antonio sat back and flat-out said nothing was his responsibility. Antonio is all about booming is voice louder than everyone else, yet nothing in the end is his responsibility, fault, problem, concern. Antonio is sadly missing the integrity gene.

kjbmom on September 14, 2009 at 5:13 pm
    • Thank you for pointing out that Dan lied about the money for the pergula, then he threw Torie under the bus when asked who should be responsible for this mistake. This was a HUGE mistake and the first time HGTV had to fork over more money, but they kept him anyway. I'm with you – it was an integrity issue.

          • I remember watching the episode and wondered why Antonio say "no, you got 10k" a couple of times and Dan was definitely confused. I wonder was it intentional on Antonio's part to confuse Dan and SABOTAGE him! We'll never know!

            Lisa K. on September 16, 2009 at 3:05 am
          • I agreee…Antonio definitely sabotaged Dan by saying "you got 10K in the van to Dan"!

            10KAntonio on September 16, 2009 at 1:28 pm
          • I did watch it and all he said was he signed for a 10K pergola, but once they figured out what had happened with the budget, he & Torie went back and changed the pergola. How is that saying he's responsible for the mix-up about the money? People are saying he lied about the money and threw Torie under the bus, and that's simply not true. Dan thought he had 5K and it was Torie and Antonio who told Dan he had 10K. Dan & Antonio picked out the pergola together, yet Antonio refused to take responsibility for his part in the snafu; in effect, throwing Dan & Torie under the bus. I agree, we should all get the facts right, including you.

Cheryl on September 16, 2009 at 7:44 am
          • What people are saying is that Dan is unable to think for himself then? He is told 5k at first and because Antonio asks if they have 10k that confuses Dan so much that he is unable to use good judgement?

Come on, if Antonio really had a hand in it, it would have been disclosed by Dan by now.

If Dan and Torrie took back the Pergola then they are responsible for what the design and what the pergola was, you can try to spin this all you want but the fact is Dan is responsible and said so.
You refuse to accept that Dan made the mistake

MANCAVE on September 16, 2009 at 12:50 pm
    • I agree with you. I loved Dan's designs almost every week as opposed to any other. He is adorably cute and very creative. Unfortunately, the gazebo fiasco left me with a bad feeling. I want to think that all of the designers are good, honest people. I think Dan's designs are fantastic and well thought out. Antonio's design was always good but when you factor in character, which I think is important, he won out on two fronts, when he helped out a fellow designer when she was struggling earlier in the competition and then when he played fair and square in the final episodes. His show will be fine.

Vickie Stevens on September 14, 2009 at 7:41 pm
    • Actually, if you watched carefully, you would have heard the transaction in the car when he was told he had $10,000.

catherine on September 14, 2009 at 7:46 pm
    • Brenda, if had read any of the previous posts regarding the pergola, you would know that Dan didn't lie. The editors and producers doctored the footage to make it appear he lied. Dan himself has explained in detail how the pergola was overpriced and how the ENTIRE team went back to the store and changed the contract to a smaller less sophisticated $5,500 item. Yes, I'll say it again, the ENTIRE TEAM picked out the $5500 unit. The remaining $4500 overbudget items were never explained fully because Tori did all the budgeting in her head. Even the judges were aware of what actually happened. Hence why, she got voted off. So for the hundredth time, the overbudget was NOT HIS FAULT. Only we, the TV viewers were out of the loop and didn't get the memo :-p

cstad on September 15, 2009 at 12:06 am
      • Interviews have said that Dan took responsibility for the extra $500 for the pergola. Lonni didn't go over budget for what she had to purchase. Antonio and Torie went over budget by $4,500. Torie bought the furniture, and Antonio bought the fencing and cement.

mowgo on September 16, 2009 at 12:52 am
    • Dan NEVER LIED! Watch the episode. When they were in the van that morning, Torie clearly said "10,000!" She may have misstated the amount, but that is what she SAID. Therefore, when Dan said, "I swear to God I heard 10,000." He was NOT LYING. WATCH THE EPISODE – IT'S ALL ON FILM. Which is probably why the judges CANCELLED her show.

Jac on September 15, 2009 at 6:40 am
    • You are kidding right. In the pressure of the moment I am sure you would have forgotten a more.

Disigner Fan on September 15, 2009 at 2:26 pm
    • I think if you watch the tape of that entire episode, you'll see when they are in the car, Torri gives him $10,000 for the gazebo. Antonio knows its wrong but tells him to keep it anyway. Antonio picks out the gazebo and Dan gets blamed for all of it. Had Torri been a better leader, she would have just cancelled the order. It's not like they were in the back yard putting it together. Cancel it and go out and pick out a new one. She wasn't doing anything anyway.

Linda on September 16, 2009 at 3:35 am
    • Brenda, you don't know the whole story. I have to tell you that they edited the film here. I know this for sure. Dan didn't lie about anything! It is not fair that they do this editing, but it makes for good tv. I think that it hurts the person's reputation. I wish that they would just be honest about what happens on the show! Everyone knows who the best designer is and it isn't Antonio!

    • i think you missed the memo on that one. If you had paid attention, you would have learned that the gazebo incident was all twisted information for the camera and that Dan did not blow his assignment on the amount to spend.

  4. Congratulations to Antonio. I've been pulling for him all along, because he has a fun, edgy personality. It's fun to watch him interact with kids, especially. Is he the strongest designer? Maybe not, but he has so many skills, talents, and so much knowledge to share. Along with his persona, I think it's going to be a great combination for a fun show.

    • Antonio has a unique UGLY style. Unless HGTV is going to put this guy redoing 'bikers' pads I would never want him in my home. Those poor people on the last episode that have to look at that awful green in their bedroom. I hope HGTV paid them to get it repainted. He sure didn't listen to the homeowner when she said a "SPLASH of COLOR". That was no splash. And that living room. How did that cabinet fit any of the other decor??!! I can't beleive Candace thought he picked up colors from it elsewhere.

  5. I want ed Antonio to win all along. I agree that Dan was a good designer, but he is much like what we see on HGTV. antonio's show may be the first show that I might be able to get my husband to watch with me. Antonio's designs are beautiful, yet he's a guy's guy. He is someone I would like to have over for some beers. I like his fresh approach and I will be watching for sure!!!

  6. Congratulations to Antonio. He won. I'd wished he could have done that with integrity and without lies, I wish he'd accepted his part in the pergola and budgeting incident, but he did not.

Overall, I felt that Dan's home had the most style & substance…unfortunately, what Dan didn't have was a tattoos and a bad boy image and that, more than anything, is what HGTV is apparently looking for: flash rather than talent. Or I should say more than talent, because it's not that Antonio is a bad designer, he's just not the best of the two that were competing.

AllyK on September 14, 2009 at 2:29 pm
    • I totally agree with you. Talent was the least they were looking for. They wanted someone totally different then what now appears on HGTV. I and my husband were very disappointed in the winner and will not watch his show because I myself prefer talent to tatoos,,

dianne ellinger on September 15, 2009 at 9:14 pm
      • They didn't have to do it on Design Star. HGTV could have just created a show for Antonio if they wanted something different. They actually ruined the Design Star show and also stooped so low as to attempt to degrade the character of some very wonderful people in their process.

trishaze on September 16, 2009 at 2:41 am
    • Couldn't agree more! They showed the clip many times – Antonio had to convince Dan about the $10,000. It was not Dan's idea.

And if the judges were truly honest, Lonni and Dan should have made the final cut. Both of their spaces far out-shined Antonio's in the celebrity room challenge. His use of space is often an issue.

Anyway, that aside, you are right – I wish Antonio well in his new venture. However, as many others have stated, I will be turning the channel when his show comes on. I found him abrasive in his dealings with other designers, completely overbearing and arrogant. A complete turn-off, so that is what I plan to do when his show comes on. Sad, too, since there are very few shows I do not enjoy on HGTV.

Dan and Lonni – you will go far, without a doubt. You are extremely innovative and creatively talented! Thank you so much for all the wonderful information you shared along the way. You both have marvelous futures ahead of you, and I wish you both the very best!

Denise on September 16, 2009 at 5:21 pm
    • I totally agree with your comments. You're not 'Antonio bashing' but stating an intelligent, considered opinion. I too felt that Dan showed the best design ideas and he's such a nicer, nore honest personality. If I wanted to watch mafia bad-boys, I'd tune into 'The Sopranos', not HGTV!

  8. I really wanted Dan to win as his designs were so much better to me. He is very polite and he really deserved the show. I doubt if I will watch Antonio as Dan should have been the one selected.

charlotte on September 14, 2009 at 10:33 am
  9. Ugh! We can't believe the judges selected Antonio over Dan! Dan's work has been better in most challenges and was clearly superior in the final challenge. Antonio's kitchen was nice, but the living room was garish and the bedrooms looked like "Design on a Dime" low rent specials. Dan's rooms were all polished, pretty, and functional. Reminded me of Candice Olson's outstanding work. The judges apparently thought that Antonio's personality was "refreshing". My husband and I just found it rude and abrasive. We won't be watching his show. Apparently HGTV is trying to appeal to a cruder audience.

Belinda on September 14, 2009 at 2:34 pm
    • I'm right there with you Belinda. It became obvious when they got rid of Loni that they wanted a man this year. Then it was obvious with Candice gushing all over the place about Antonio that he would win no matter whose overall design work was best. This was the first season of Design Star I just want to forget. I also find Antonio to be rude and abrasive and would not watch him.

sadingrid on September 14, 2009 at 6:41 pm
    • Antonio should have been eliminated when his group decided on tan paint and he deliberately did not buy it. Any other designer would have been sent home for that. I thought his final design was hideous, except for the kitchen. There was no continuity from room to room, but at least he didn't make a cave around the child's bed this time. PULEEZE! How practical was that cave? People without money cannot afford to redo these rooms every year or two as the children grow up. This was the worst season of Design Star ever! I thought it was going to be good since Candice was selected for the judging. Vern's designs are always cheap on his show. In fact, I watched one show in which he donated his personal pillows to a sorority because they had dragon flies on them, and the pillows were too big for the chairs! Genevieve is so busy acting like a coquette that her show is revolting. And lastly, Antonio was pronounced the winner last night, and no remarks were even made to Dan. It used to be that the final two both got prizes. Alice and David both got a car! Dan didn't even get a," Thank you, Dan." AMAZING!

      • Couldn't have said it better, Catherine…agree totally with your comments.

Leah on September 15, 2009 at 2:28 am
    • My husband and I agree. Antonio was a bully from the beginning, and not a team player. He is all about himself and he thinks he's great. We won't be watching his show. In contrast, we watch Divine Design all the time, and are very surprised that Candice didn't oo and ahhh over Dan's chandelier, mirrors, and storage. We thought Antonio should have been history from the beginning, even though some of his ideas were unique. We felt Antonio's house makeover was not what Design Star was looking for, but that Dan's beautiful design was precisely what DS was looking for. We guess HGTV should announce their goal from the beginning. Do you want a loose, egotistical he-man who doesn't seem to respect anything except his own work, or a designer viewers will turn in to watch?

Linda and Phil on September 14, 2009 at 11:35 pm
    • I agreed with you. I thought Dan's room was much prettier than Antonio’s room. The pieces in Antonio’s rooms always don’t quite go with each other.

carol on September 14, 2009 at 11:55 pm
    • Belinda I so agree with you. Antonio's rooms show his lack of experience in terms of choosing colors and placement and room arrangement. Yes it may have been eclectic but the colors could have been more cohesive, they were just all over the place. It was almost like looking at an old lady wearing a printed pastel skirt with a plaid shirt in primary colors! Just misses the "funky quotient" and goes full on into "Tacky Tony". Antonio's show will be the first show "canceled" on HGTV for lack of viewership, I for one see no reason to tune in, does "Hildy" ring any bells?

Laurie on September 15, 2009 at 12:08 am
    • I totally agree. I will not be watching Antonio either. I can't believe HGTV wants someone on their network that looks like he slept in his clothes, is covered with ugly tattoos, and can't trim his beard. HGTV must be trying to get a show that straight men will watch, ain't gonna happen.

Keith on September 15, 2009 at 4:10 am
    • I have to totally agree with Belinda. Seems HGTV is looking for a very different audience. I don't think I'll be watching his show because his "street" type talk is just so irritating. I really think HGTV must have told the judges who to pick because Candice, Vern, and Gen are such wonderful designers and I can't believe they thought his living room and bedrooms were better than Dan's. They would never design such garish rooms!-Gail

Gail on September 15, 2009 at 6:48 pm
    • I agree 100%! We all watch for the talent and to learn new ideas. I hope to be inspired by HGTV's shows but now I am only inspired to watch a different channel! Judges, I really like you, but YOU SOLD OUT! I am really disappointed in you! You are interior designers and you let us all down for the sake of "good tv". This is also unfair to Antonio. His career will based on his image and not his talent.

Susan on September 16, 2009 at 8:07 pm
    • I totally agree that Antonio is rude and abrasive, and I have no intention of watching his show. The new ad that is being run, which says he'll be coming to my house next, is a turn-off. The judges may think his style is refreshing, but I find him to be obnoxious, and his designs do not seem to be well thought out.

Throughout the competition I compared Dan to David. They are both charming and talented. Could it be that these very attributes worked against him? Did the judges not want the competition? He will be a big success, in spite of HGTV!

Antonio is far from charming, and his offering to help others seemed to be more for self promotion than for trying to be nice. He appeared to distance himself when he was involved in the decision making with others. He either let the others take the blame, or just tried to lie his way out of it. It made me wonder if HGTV wasn't paying attention, or if they condone that sort of behavior.

He is an ass and a complete phony. I hope his program fails, and I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that way!

Norma on September 17, 2009 at 12:36 pm
    • I noticed my comment was removed, but not before 22 people e-mailed me. The votes were more than 3 to 1 for Dan.
If you don't agree with HGTV's decision contact their advertisers. I did. Look up their corporate headquarters and CEOs and give them a call. They don't want to leave a bad taste with consumers.
Do you think Nackey Scagnelli HGTV"s HEAD HONCHO IS CONNECTED TO ANTONIO?

hillgirl on September 17, 2009 at 8:24 pm
    • Ahhh get over it people! "GIGGLE BOY" didn't win, and that's all there is to it! If you don't want to watch, then DON'T………..YAY ANTONIO!!!!!

Mil on September 17, 2009 at 8:42 pm
    • I agree wholeheartedly with you. Dan is the designer I would want in my home, not the sometimes rude person that couldn't get along with the other contestants. I love most of the shows on HGTV, but I will not be watching Antonio's!

Sandy on September 18, 2009 at 2:19 am
  10. Sorry David, just don't agree, he doesn't bring anything new, he makes my skin crawl. I won't be watching his or any of the Judges shows. That's it I'm done! There's only 5 shows on HGTV that I will watch and only one is from a previous Design Star. So not only am I no longer a Design Star fan-I'm really losing confidence in HGTV.

BkeSu on September 14, 2009 at 2:34 pm
    • I also will not be watching Antonio's show. I really didn't see anything nice about him but apparently Candice did. She seemed to want to impress him always making these comments to make him look good. Considering Antonio always got the better option (like the little boy's room; how can you go wrong with that? They are easier to please). Also, Dan had a small bedroom to work with and he did a great job; Antonio had a bigger bedroom, who can you go wrong with that?

LivetoRide on September 14, 2009 at 4:51 pm
      • I thought that Antonio's master bedroom was awful! (Sorry – can you say Slime Green?) — the "headboard" with the wood getting larger towards the ceiling didn't work for me either. Seemed like he moved walls around and didn't need to — could have rearranged the room without that (and saved money for the client). The kid's room was cute but not drop dead. No point in going on… the main thing is that they liked Antonio's presentation style and that's their bottom line. They have to team him with someone who has better design skills — and I see they've already cleaned up his look so he is more mainstream, less "edgy" looking. Was in general NOT impressed by this season and the order in which people's shows were cancelled.

Peggy on September 17, 2009 at 9:33 pm
    • I completely agree with you…..I think Antonio was chosen more on the fact that he is and acts like a complete ass. I certainly will not watch his show and I am or was a HGTV freak. I thouight Dan and Lonnie were much better and far more watchable.
