  1. Congratulations Dan-See you on-line coz am boycotting the TV show it was rigged.
If they wanted Antonio to host a show they should have just given him a contract and not
duped the audience into believing it was a competition. The best man/woman should win otherwise
don't call it a competition. Shame on the HGTV people-its a true lack of credibility. But go show them!

Jane on September 16, 2009 at 4:52 pm
    • You hit it right on the nose! That's exactly what I was thinking. If HGTV wanted Antonio, why not just give him a show. Of all the shows HGTV airs, only 3 were won by Design Star … just give the thug a contract, and see how it FLOPS!!! Let Design Star have the same format as previous years … Trust your viewers!!!

GGG on September 16, 2009 at 6:46 pm
      • I just feel the same way you do……it was a lack of respect to all the viewers.

Melba on September 16, 2009 at 11:41 pm
    • I agree with you it was as if antonio was chosen from the beginning. I am sorry and I don't to hurt anyone's feelings but th e last living rm. Antonio did was not pretty that cabinet he put in there was just plain ugly. He was rude and a know it all at times. That is just my opinion. ;>)

Ruth on September 17, 2009 at 4:47 pm
      • I did not like the cabinet either, it looked junky. I hated the pink geese, and I think Antonio is rude, and Dan is a sweetheart who has more talent and deserved to win.

Catherine Fenzel on September 25, 2009 at 5:05 pm
    • I feel the same as you. The whole season I was led to believe that the winner would be chosen by the viewers like in past seasons. I don't think Antonio's designs were worthy of winning. I do not plan on watching next season now that I know the viewers voices don't count!

kosarsbaby on September 17, 2009 at 6:10 pm
    • HGTV just hit a new low. Is Antonio a relative or is this the dumming down of HGTV. I will never watch the man who lives like a bum NO TALENT, horrible mess. He does NOTHING for your show and other than commenting right now I have NO respect for HGTV. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. DO YOU WANT YOUR FAMILY TO BE LIKE HIM? THIS IS NO LONGER A SHOW TO LOOK UP TO FOR IDEAS AND TALENT IN DESIGNING.

    • Cant believe all of of the negative responses to this entire competion.
It is very dishearting, to see on "blogs", when our entire country is in turmoil.
Very strange., never have seen it before until now.,,,
I never knew how these blogs were until this year, and i have to say, in a time when we
all need a place to "feel good", this IS NOT IT.
      Lisa E.

Lisa on September 20, 2009 at 12:26 am
      • A place to feel good? Is this the bar from Cheers where everybody knows your name? This is a blog, a web log, an interactive page for one to provide information and people to respond to it and others in kind. Whether at HGTV or any other blog on the net, this is how it is.

Check out a Harry Potter fan forum or Disney World, they are filled with fantasy to escape into and 'feel good'. You certainly will not find "feel good" here at the moment, despite the happiness we feel in Dan being chosen for his on web show. He deserved the tele show.

It is not the entire competition that we are negative about either. It is the very fact that the man who presented the best overall designs and cohesive spaces while being an informative and warm engaging host on camera failed to win the grand prize because the judges chose to give it to the man who was 'different'. Not because he was the better designer with the better space, just a different personality. Most of us are outraged at the sham of a finale and continue to voice our anger a week after the finale aired.

We shall continue to do so. Tomorrow evening shall be another "fun" filled time on this blog and I, for one, can barely contain my enthusiasm for it.

Bleck on September 20, 2009 at 4:56 am
    • That's so true. Antonio shouldn't have won the competition, if he was the best he would have also been the fan favorite. Maybe if HGTV wants a successful show, they might want to put shows on that their viewers would want to watch. Half of their shows are AMAZING and the other half are like WTF!! shoot me in the face bad!

Jesse on September 20, 2009 at 10:47 pm
    • I totally agree, but not only did they dupe the viewers they ruined our confindence in the judges.

Clarissa on September 21, 2009 at 12:46 am
    • Jane:
Could not agree with you any more who could sleep in a neon green room not to mention hiscutsey
presentation I think Genavive was hooked on him

Rodger Laudenberger on September 21, 2009 at 3:26 am
      • Rodger your the first person to mention that oh so ugly lime green room. That color would never make me feel like relaxing and going to sleep. Antonio was no designer, he never listened to the client, and I'm sure after showing friends and family their disaster that couple repainted their bedroom, and got rid of that lopsided tv armoir in the livingroom.

        Linda B. on September 21, 2009 at 2:38 pm
        • So true!! Another horrible thing though was the celebrity chalenge. Who flirts with their clients?? It was totally unprofessional.

Amy on September 28, 2009 at 1:27 am
    • Jane, I agree completely. Antonio was selected because he certainly isn't a treat to the panel and their shows not because of any great talent. He does have a certain stage presence but my god, did you see his own home makeover. It was laughable.

Lori on September 21, 2009 at 8:58 pm
    • I agree– the judges were fascinated with Antonio because of his bad boy image but Dan was great- he was warm and happy and deserved to win

janice on September 23, 2009 at 3:15 pm
    • You are right on!! I won't watch Antonio's show and am turned off by the whole HGTV channel for choosing him.

Sandy on October 1, 2009 at 2:05 am
    • I thought I was the only one that felt the way you do, they even want us to watch how Antonio renovates his
property, HGTV is as self centered as Antonio.

Dee on October 4, 2009 at 9:38 pm
  2. Dan is easy on the eyes like DBro. That's part of the appeal as well. I'm going to want to watch someone who is well put together as well as their designs to feel like it's a clean person doing clean designs. I won't be watching the Antonio Project. Would gross me out.

forgiverofone on September 16, 2009 at 4:55 pm
    • Same here he realy grosses me out with those tatoos, standing with his legs wide open etc.

neomie on September 16, 2009 at 6:07 pm
    • Antonio's whole persona just screams ARROGANCE! Who wants to watch that???

GGG on September 16, 2009 at 6:48 pm
      • Antonio: not a pleassant view/show/design/person/etc..ugh!

Jenn on September 17, 2009 at 12:21 am
    • I AGREE!!

ANNIE on September 17, 2009 at 4:15 am
    • I agree. Antonio hurts my eyes! Much like that weird looking munchkin they chose last season. Dan also looks so much sweeter, like someone you'd like to work with, Antonio is not as approachable.

Jazzy Jay on September 17, 2009 at 8:39 pm
    • I do think that Dan is a cutie and was fun to watch. His designs were sophisticated and the bold graphics he used very contemporary and gender neutral. Dan can come design a room in my house any day!

I guess I don't share your enthusiasm for David B. (I saw that Fish room… among others) I have seen some of his designs I thought were pretty tacky.

justwatching on September 23, 2009 at 6:51 pm
  3. Just because they were looking for something off chart, different – that's how Antonio got it. Dan's designs were far better. I guess, will toon in online watching Dan instead…
    Go Dan Go!!!

    Etoy999 on September 16, 2009 at 4:57 pm
    • I agree 100%, Antonio was off the chart. He was intertaining and predictable. But not in my house!
Dan, was creative, tasteful: Like Candis her self. I'm sure we will be seeing Dan on the big screen.

Mary on September 16, 2009 at 9:32 pm
    • This is what I think. Dan is the best designer. The women just liked the way Antonio talked. I didn't think he was at all as original as Dan and in the last event the room Dan did for the girl was so much more inventive. Seems people from Oregon just don't get chances like Californians do. Love the twinkle in Dan's eyes too!

Colleen on September 17, 2009 at 12:50 am
      • I believe all three judges liked the way Antonio talked, which is a sad indictment of the downward spiral of American culture.

AnyoneButTonio on September 17, 2009 at 6:02 pm
    • Dan was the best-Antonio had many negative comments by the judges and was not a team player.
Dan had great design and hosting skills. You rock Dan! Antonio even if you take a bath, get some dental work and cover up your gross tatoos-you still will suck at design and hosting.

      cam317 on September 17, 2009 at 2:03 am
    • Thank you. I was so disappointed in the three designers aka the judges who voted on Antonio. He didn't deserve to win and I won't watch his show. He was rewarded for his bad attitude and bad boy look over his ability. I was very mad!

Magie on September 17, 2009 at 6:07 pm
    • I agree 100%. Different isn't automatically better. This was a poor choice and I can't imagine what HGTV and the judges must have been thinking. I This is the first reality/competition series I have ever watched and I am definitely not going to get sucked into this kind of thing again. What a waste.

Lynn on September 19, 2009 at 3:18 am
      • I got it they were thinking (NOT ANOTHER DESIGNER WHO DOESNT THINK OUT SIDE THE BOX) Dan spends ouside the box but that is all he does diffenetly. So if you are new just tune into David's show or Vern's that is what Dans show would be on a great day.

Jennifer on September 25, 2009 at 12:00 pm
    • So true! HGTV's Design Star had a new viewer with me this season and I was so disappointed when Dan, the better designer, did not win! Now HGTV will not be having me watch Antonio's show but tracking Dan on-line!

CKR on September 20, 2009 at 3:01 am
      • Be honest in all truth if you look over the designs summited by all contestants you will find the best one didnt even make it past the first five mintues of the show. I dont remember her name it was the other lady that lost to Torie. She has some wonderful amazing cutting edge designs. Dan is nothing new, he is the same as all the ones before him. I know people are afraid of change but this hate fest for Antonio is sad, and just not right.

Jennifer on September 25, 2009 at 11:58 am
    • I totally agree with this comment. I wouldn't let Antonio decorate anything for me. Dan did a great job in the finale.

Beth on September 20, 2009 at 11:03 pm
      • One question and I hope you answer it honestly, if Dan is using your money to design a room. How would you feel if he went over budget? Not in a good way either? If you feel Dan is so great why not just keep watching David, and Vern, this would be the same as watching a show hosted by Dan. The only difference is they dont go over budget, and no one gets throw under the bus,lol lol

Jennifer on September 25, 2009 at 11:56 am
    • Just finished watching Antonio's Project. During the show he commented " this is riduculous", (I do agree, after seing the final project). I would recommend HG to change the name of the show to
      Antonio's bad taste~ Extreme.

FJ Vargas on September 21, 2009 at 3:18 am
      • Extreme is right! They should call his show:

"From High Class to Trailer Trash in 3 Easy Steps with Antonio "Pig" Ballatore". Disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mickey on September 21, 2009 at 3:18 pm
        • GROW UP, it takes someone of no class to make such a comment!!!!

Jennifer on September 25, 2009 at 11:53 am
          • Agree – The comment maybe a bit harsh but also agree with Mickey that Antonio's taste is just not too many people would like to see in their home.

            Etoy999 on September 25, 2009 at 12:19 pm
    • I will watch them both , they both enterest me in different ways. your right Antonio IS a different kind of a designer, i will watch him because of that. Candice is right hes entertaining. but i do pray Dan gets hes own show. I like both of them.

Latricia Wesley on September 22, 2009 at 1:15 am
      • Finally, I agree they both are great for different reasons, I even thought they would make a great team.

Jennifer on September 25, 2009 at 11:52 am
    • Give it a rest, Dan got a show on line. Dan's design was not anything we havent seen already. He ripped off two designers while playing the contest, first David is known for his paintings. Here comes Dan doing nothing orignal, instead he is painint like David. Then the final challenge he pulls a Vern! Vern is known for taking a personal picture, blowing it up and placing it in a public area of the house. If you do research on the white room, you will find a little Todd. I dont understand how everyone feels Dan is somehow perfect and Antonio is a jerk. Dan threw anyone he could under the bus to save himself, while Antonio stepped up and took responsibltiy for his designs good or bad. Dont forget Dan cost Torie her shot at the gold, all because he made a 5,000.00 mistake. Dan didnt really seem to care, for this reason I thought he was going to win, only someone who felt they were a shoe in would be so unconcerned with such a large mistake.

Jennifer on September 25, 2009 at 11:50 am
      • Cool it – No one said anything about Dan is Perfect or Antonio is a JERK. You said it yourself. If you read carefully – I said Antonio IS DIFFERENT. Even if Dan pulled little Vern or David or whomever – at least – his style is prefferred by many people and that's my style as well. Am sure there are many people – like yourself – would prefer Antonio's taste.
As far as Dan mistake cost Torie a shot??? Don't forget Antonio DELIBERATELY MEANT NOT TO GET TORI'S PAINT. Sure, he stood up for his belief – But there are many ways to speak up than backstabbing your team. Now, that was NO MISTAKE – He admitted that he DELIBERATELY DIDN"T GET TORI PAINT ON PURPOSE. You just don't do that to people. He could have handled it better w/ little class perhaps.
Dan built many things w/ his own hands that I think you've overlooked and haven't credited him for his creativities.
Take care Jen! Happy Fri!!! Happy Week-end.

        Etoy999 on September 25, 2009 at 12:31 pm
        • Your right about one thing Antonio didnt get Torie's paint, but that didnt cost Torie a chance of progressing. Dont get me wrong, I didnt care for her taste in design, it was a little 80ish. I also dont always agree with Antonio's design either, but it is principal. Everyone acts as if poor little Dan, he was abused and blah blah blah. His style is nothing different then HGTV entire line up. I dont see why add another designer who does just like everyone one else. To be honest I feel that when they allowed the designers to pick the last contestant we lost out. I feel the dark haired ladys designs were something new and not to over the top. But not one designer wanted to really put someone on that could beat them so they selected Torie. As for Dan he did take Torie's shot when he spent 5,000.00 over budget. One quetion would you feel good about Dan making such a mistake and not standing up and taking ownershiop of such a large mistake, he wasnt even worried. That would tell me he was a shoe in.

Jennifer on October 1, 2009 at 8:42 am
      • So…. what, you can't have a couch or lamp in your house because some other designer puts couches and lamps in their rooms? What is that? If a design idea works, use it. I wasn't aware Vern owned the copywrite for putting pictures of homeowners in his rooms. And just because David is known for his pictures doesn't make all of them good. Should I take the painting in my house down so someone doesn't think I'm copying David? There is nothing new under the sun. Someone somewhere has done it before. Especially in design, There's only so many original things you can do. And look at Antonio, original is not always good. His "original designs" are cheap and unprofessional.

andi on September 25, 2009 at 4:14 pm
        • WOW calm your self, I never said that you cant copy who you want. I just feel if everyone is going to get their panties in a up roar it should be for a good reason. As for you comment its fine if you want to watch the same type shows over and over, I prefer to see something new, something I havent seen before other wise why bother adding a new show host. As for your comments about copying everyone by having a picture, I guess you have to follow your taste I prefer something more then a picture of clouds. If that is what you like you should have it in your home, all I said is the truth, Dan hasnt found the one thing he needs to. He needs to find that one thing that sets him apart from the rest. From your comment you agree, as you have stated what is wrong if he is like every other designer, great point agree but the show is to find that designer that stands out from the pack. And that is who won! Antonio, thank you for making my point.

Jennifer on October 1, 2009 at 8:51 am
  4. Annie Stevens,

ploy: 1. a maneuver or stratagem, as in conversation, to gain the advantage.

Somehow, I don't think the powers that be at HGTV are sitting around concocting ploys. First of all, they don't have to. Second of all, they have plenty to do otherwise. I imagine some of them are keeping up with this blog, though, and getting some good laughs. So keep talking. Just watch out for the slander. Because that would be illegal.

    Mrs.Dictionary on September 16, 2009 at 4:57 pm
    • Mrs. Dictionary,

      pedant: (noun)

      1. a person who makes an excessive or inappropriate display of learning.
      2. a person who overemphasizes rules or minor details.
      3. a person who adheres rigidly to book knowledge without regard to common sense.

      • LOL!

Tori on September 19, 2009 at 3:06 am
    • FYI, slander is an utterance, libel is a written statement. If you seek to impress with your knowledge, make sure you have it right before hitting "submit comment."

Guest on September 16, 2009 at 5:44 pm
    • To have any legal cause of action for slander (or, in your actual example, libel), one would have to have actual tangible losses to be recovered. For HGTV to post a blog forum on their website, inviting any and all to post their opinions, and those opinions being that HGTV made a grave error in judgment, does not constitute any tangible loss. They have no cause of action because they have no damage. If HGTV sustains any damage, such as loss of viewership, it will have been at their own hands for faulty judgment and poor planning, thus no cause of action, no lawsuit.

      Mrs.Dictionary on September 16, 2009 at 6:43 pm
    • It is not slander you twit. It is called freedom of speech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can definitley say I will no longer be watching HGTV because they proved as fake as all the other reality shows.

Con on September 16, 2009 at 7:29 pm
    • I agree with you. I like Dan but I can't see putting down Antonio. I liked both of their designs and personalities. I don't think it was any wrong-doing on HGTV's part. I think it is a matter of the judges knowing things about design that we don't. I would have been satisfied whichever of the two won.

Anita on September 16, 2009 at 8:05 pm
      • Anita, I have to agree with you. I, actually, liked Antonio from the start. I thought he was different from anyone currently on HGTV. Dan was too much like David and Lonni was (yawn!) boring!. I liked her designs but she was boring. Antonio will be great. He just needs to get into his nitch and find his confort zone. Yo…Antonio…way to go!

Anne on September 16, 2009 at 8:36 pm
        • His niche, you mean? Ugh.

Look, being different doesn't mean he showed the best design talent. That's what this ENTIRE competition was supposed to be about. He shouldn't have won because he's different. He should have won because he was the BEST designer.

AllyK on September 16, 2009 at 8:58 pm
          • being like everyone does'nt mean you are a better disigner..because the majority likes some style, does'nt mean is the law in design, for my Antonio is the Kurt Cobian in design let new things happen, because all this talking is , bla bla bla with no sence

          • Gee, so that means we can all expect him to kiss the business end of a 12 guage? Now don't go getting us all excited. And before people howl over that comment I'd like to make it absolutely clear that I most defintely do NOT wish the guy any harm or ill will. I just don't wish him good luck in a show he undeservedly got.

I think you meant "sense", BTW. But I'd disagree that what is being stated quite repetitively makes no sense. What makes no sense is handing a man a show who didn't earn it by putting forth the most well executed designs and hosting in the final challenge of a design competition.

Dan's designs in the final challenge surpassed Antonio's. His hosting was relaxed, comfortable, and engaging with the added bonus of actually telling us what he did and why he did it. These are things in the hosting portion that Antonio has consistently failed at…instead we get "yo"…"check it"…and "where's 'da batroom".

AllyK on September 17, 2009 at 2:22 am

          • I do believe Candice's style is different from Vern's and from Gens and from David's and so on and so on…. Stop trying to make excuses for your poor Antonio as if he is "out the box" as some say. I believe in thinking "out the box", but Antonio is so far "out the box" he couldn't touch it with a 1000 foot pole. Antonio is not a "new thing", he a disgusting thing. I haven't taken interior design, but I did major in fashion design which has lots of the same principals. Main point — design is to be pleasing to the eye even if it is outrageous and Antonio's designs are not. They are a total distraction with no flow. If you feel that's design — well I can only imagine how your house looks or how you dress.

Lori on October 10, 2009 at 8:39 am
          • I totally agree… Antonio has what I would say next to the best, not saying that he doesn't have the talent but just not measure up to Dan. They can always "coach" Dan in Hosting (tho Dan has a very sophisticate style like Ms. Olsen) to more funny, more witty, etc… but judging on Design…. Dan is far more better.

            Etoy999 on September 17, 2009 at 1:06 pm
    • You are so niave. They have a team that thinks up new shows, looks for the cutting edge to keep it fresh. This is a for-profit network that is competing heavily with reality tv shows. They carefully selected the personalities for the show hoping they would select just the right mix that you would create drama and be talked about the next day. I'm sure the top dogs were involved in not letting the public vote again. They can't take the chance like they did with the surfer dude vs. Myles for Style. Had the surfer won, more people would have tuned in. But they let America vote and we got a boring design show. Someone rough like Antonio fit their Realty Decorating vewing needs. Dan would have ruled the network about 8 years ago when that is all they had on the air. Honestly, I think Dan is a superior designer than Antonio but I would fast forward to the end of the show just to see the reveal and then delete the show. Antonio's I'll watch. It will run it's course. Just like Monster House did.
Signed, Handygal. A viewer since they went on the air.

      • That's the problem. They're supposed to have selected DESIGNERS to compete in a DESIGN competition.

But you're right. The Personality – tacky and tasteless though it is – won.

If they sincerely wanted that type of tripe on the network then they should have done it above board, rather than couching it in terms of a competition for the best DESIGNER. It's not what we got and not what most of us want.

      • On the contrary, the vast majority of us want new innovative design ideas like Dan's and Lonni's that we would actually use in our own spaces, and not the typical Antonio clashy junk yard layouts, unorganized wall stickers, poorly sized or non-functional furnishings, replacement of a double bathroom sink with a single sink, missing necessities or poorly chosen accessories, and the list goes on and on…

trishaze on September 17, 2009 at 5:41 am
        • Lonni had ONE "innovative design"…she unfortunately used it three times on the show, which is why she had to go. Y-A-W-N.

Tori on September 19, 2009 at 3:10 am
      • Agree… they were looking for "Entertaining person" rather Designer… And with that purpose, of course, Antonio would win big time… He's good at Entertaining, and that's just about it!

        Etoy999 on September 17, 2009 at 1:08 pm
      • You still don't get it. HGTV can hire whoever they want for what ever reason. The viewers and x-fans are upset because the've been betrayed. They have been encouraged to falsely participate in a RIGGED contest.

        • It's called 'marketing' and the public has been duped for many years! Some of us are beginning to realize this and we need to put our money and our support where our mouth is. THAT'S called integrity. We need to stop supporting things we don't really want, need or believe in. Otherwise, the media will always be calling the shots and we will continue to be puppets.

    • Dear Mrs.Dictionary
HGTV New what they wanted they should have shared that with the contestants, this was a challenge
for the best designer Dan met that challenge. If the show was called the most conventional designer
then no one would be complaining. HGTV miss represented themselves.

  5. Just because they were looking for something off chart, different – that's how Antonio got it. Dan's designs were far better. I guess, will tune in online watching Dan instead…
    Go Dan Go!!!

  6. HGTV, you'd better give Dan the time, money & support he deserves to make his online consolation prize for getting ripped off a rigged "contest" a success. Because if you think your viewers are steamed now, just try giving him some lame-duck premise with no effort. You really stepped in it this time. You have an obligation to your audience to make it right.

  7. All of you "Dan" fans are so rude. You must be blogging between town hall meetings.

I guess I am one of the rare viewers who actually has enough class and grace to let HGTV know of my disappointment without being defamatory, laughable, tacky or childish.

freakyhic on September 16, 2009 at 5:47 pm

peabo on September 16, 2009 at 6:19 pm
        • Peabo – are you truly that dumb or just sarcastic as well as rude? I am NOT a Dan fan, but have not lowered myself to insult his craft. I, unlike many on this blog, am able to appreciate what Freakychick is saying. You people really need to learn to live with disappointment. Dan is not suffering.

          • He didn't win because he presented the best designs, the best solutions for the challenge, or the best hosting.

So what did he win on? Well, according to all of his defenders: "being different"

So, therefore, according to ya'll – he didn't win on talent. Truth.

What expletives have I used other than lame-ass {regarding the second place booby prize that Dan won} and bloody? The other so-called profanity…not from me. So please don't do an Antonio improv with the accusation of "youz guyz" in referencing other posters to me.

    • you are so right Henry, They are so mean. They are screaming, crying and insult other as much as they can. And they still doing it even though Dan already won online show. His fan just like little kid. If they do not got what they want, they will cry or do anything. My little kid loves HGTV but I don't allow them to go online to see these comments since I don't want them to see how rude people (adult) are.
If tashica , jenny, Jen……won, I still happy for them.

HGTV LOVE YOU on September 16, 2009 at 9:00 pm
      • Telling the truth is mean? Please.

So, Dan won. Does that mean we are supposed to immediately clam up and not say another word about how Dan was robbed, how the less talented individual won a show even though he didn't deserve it? We're supposed to be overjoyed with the lame ass consolation prize and forget what has happened? Not on your life.

As for your children, what parent in their right mind would let their little ones read/participate in online blogs in the first place? You're protecting them from an HGTV blog? Or the truth? Hey, their your's and I applaud you for the effort to protect them, but I do question why you'd even consider allowing them to read/participate in the first place.

Had Tashika or Jen won the TV show, I'd not be happy – neither displayed talent. Had Jany won the online show I would be happy for her. She had design style and taste, even if a little textbook in nature.

AllyK on September 17, 2009 at 1:25 pm
    • Hey Henny you must think we're all mobsters and unAmerican. Rude does not begin to describe what the three stooges judging the competition did to tarnish the Design Star integrity. They failed miserably.

Miguel on September 16, 2009 at 11:02 pm
    • Contest are about winners and everyone is entited to what they think, even if they are wrong like you.

DRP on September 16, 2009 at 11:49 pm
    • I agree with you, Henny. Dan's fans adore him only because he is conventionally handsome. This crap happens all the time in the real world: talented people are never, ever as popular as handsome, untalented people. I am thrilled that Antonio won. In fact, I was keeping tabs on the outcome of Design Star because I really wanted to see if the regular-looking man would win–and he did! I predict that if Dan had won, he would have turned into another fashionista-obsessed Design Star winner like that moron, David Bromsted, or whatever his name is. He is so annoying that I have to turn off the television whenever I see him spewing his nasty vibe on viewers.

Jay on September 17, 2009 at 7:58 am
      • Handsome? No.

I support Dan and voice my outrage because the BEST DESIGNER with the best DESIGNS in the final challenge AND the better HOSTING skills FAILED to win a DESIGN COMPETITION.

Instead, the lesser talented person won and why? Well according to fans: he's different.

Talk about shallowness of fans. Antonio, despite his tattoos and his so-called edginess was the lesser talented and the less deserving and shouldn't have won and his fans rarely if EVER state it's his designs and his talent they're interested in seeing. No, it's his personality. THAT is shallow.

You talk about 'prettyboy' and 'regular-looking' and 'fashionista' but you're not fooling anyone with your bigotry. Dan isn't gay, not that you'd care to know that. You accuse Dan fans of shallowness when for all the world it's Antonio fans that are stuck on his superficial 'bad boy' persona rather than substantive design talent.

AllyK on September 17, 2009 at 1:37 pm
        • AllyK – you really need to take a Valium. No matter how hostile, angry or insulting you are to the judges and Antonio fans; DAN IS NEVER GOING TO BE THE SEASON 4 DESIGN STAR WINNER !! Antonio was not your taste, so what, he still deserved to win and "HE DID". He has the talent and the charisma to carry his own successful show. GET OVER IT!! I think you've just established the first case of BLOG RAGE.

    • Leave it to an AB "fan" to be so predictably unoriginal and boorish. If being a true American and practicing the RIGHT of free speech, either at a town hall meeting or on an HGTV blog is "rude", than I am as guilty as the astroturf on my son's high school football field.

This isn't a political issue, it is an opinion forum. Let's keep it that way. Your pathetic attempt at insulting people by attempting to lump them with a political movement is absurd.

Please try to THINK CONSTRUCTIVELY prior to any future postings. THANKS!! :)

Magie on September 17, 2009 at 6:12 pm
    • I don't think saying Dan's design's better than Antonio's is rude. It an opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Truthfully, I think it's a fact that Dan's designs are better than Antonio's. And the FACT that the public was able to vote, and the results not shared was not good on the part of HGTV, in my OPINION. The FACT that so many people wrote on this blog that they liked Dan's design's better than Antonio's says something doesn't it? And that isn't being rude.

Junieb on September 17, 2009 at 11:23 pm
    • LOL. I agree and I am a Dan fan. I'm really dissapointed, though I have not watched the fianle yet, but there is no need to knock Antonio. I'm hoping he'll bring something new and fresh to this usually provincial network.

Let's hope for you sake that if this terrible government run health care plan get's past by the liberal country ruining dummycrates you never get sick. I have a child that has a life shorting disease, and for his sake I hope we don't get what Europe has. Dan fan's are not rude. Dan fans have more intellect than you could ever possible hope to have. I do like Antonio, but I do think Dan is a better designer. By the way Henny, this is a blog about design, not about Americans using the freedom that we have to protest. Why don't you move to Iran, Iraq, Cuba, Russia, or some other country that has the governmet control that you want? If you hate out country so much, why don't you move?

  8. No totals, no percentages. Bet this was a blow-out for Dan and it was too embarrassing to reveal the results for Antonio. With patience, perhaps we will be lucky enough for Dan to have his own TV show. HGTV has badly mangled this. Bet there were a lot of high level meetings.

Susan on September 16, 2009 at 4:59 pm
    • This was likely anything but a blowout. If you have been somebody, like me, who has been voting from the beginning you will have noticed there were two favorites. Dan was always in the lead but Jany Lee was moving & shaking WAY faster than Dan and was primed to take over the lead (less than 1% away) just before they removed the actual results for a week to make it a surprise.

People who are upset yell the loudest.

Kevin on September 16, 2009 at 5:26 pm
    • Didn't the notice say that voting was closed and come back to the site to see who is the fans' favorite and to see the percentages? Hmmm …. Looks like something was overlooked!

GGG on September 16, 2009 at 6:53 pm
    • I doubt it, this whole mess has worked out just like they planned it. Dan will draw a much needed audience to the net. The online show will cost less to produce and probably make more money for the network. They
are using Dan and oddly enough they are using Antonio just as badly.

Dan Ream on September 16, 2009 at 7:48 pm
