David’s Vlog: Tensions are Mounting!

this season has been horrible. The finalist can not even host well thier own shows!!!!
I agree with BuffaloBarbara. Especially about Antonio, if the 3 designers had a ounce of his creativity it would have been more interesting to watch. The Cupcake shop was fabulous, my boyfriend watched the whole thing with me and loved it too. He gets bored with most of the shows, hes an engineer, it doesn't excite him. He loved the fun Antonio and crew were having, And the great curb appeal that was created for a retail cupcake shop, the kind of place we would love to hang out in. This Season's Design Stars aren't bringing anything fresh to HGTV.
I've really enjoyed the small business focus (and didn't like the two Antonio episodes that *weren't* focused on small business). It's a niche that's not filled a lot on HGTV, and talk about design that makes a difference! Design in a small business can be the difference between success and failure, both for the business itself and the neighborhood it's in!
I wonder how much the "show concept" was part of the judging. Casey's idea seemed to be "Decorating Cents meets Sensible Chic (or whatever they renamed it)". It was hard to see what was repurposed vs what was new. Michael's idea would have a limited audience,
Personally I thought all three rooms were just "nice" and the hosting was just "nice". I was giving the designers the benefit of the doubt that their creativity couldn't come through the dumb challenges, but I have yet to see any "WOW" moments as we have seen in the past.
Kath __you're so right – last night was a joke – Emily has no TV personality – and Casey has consistently won challenges – and Michael is so annoying – I will not watch the final show and do not intend on watching the show next year – I also don't love Vern hosting the show – just judge
Casey & Emily should have been the finalists, they're pleasant to watch/listen to & besides they are better designers than Michael (he actually thought putting together a working murphy bed was a big accomplishment…sad). The best designer out of the last three is Casey & also she has a more pleasant speaking voice & better delivery (I understand Emily was hoarse last night, but she also speaks too fast). Michael is truly awful & should have been eliminated a long time ago or at least last night.
Yes, Yes,Yes…I so agree. I was so tired of Michael's Drama throughout the season and waited patiently for him to be eliminated…but it never happened and now he is a finalist? The tears, the rants, the drama…if he wins will this carry onto his show? omg! what a disaster that will be and nothing he has come up with so far was worth the time he put into it. Who is judging these people?? Casey should have been the one to have her own show in my opinion
I agree — Emily has no hosting ability — she talks too fast and jumps around like a cricket on a hot plate. Perhaps HGTV "schools" the winner as to what translates well to television.
ANYONE BUT MICHAEL , I can't stand hearing him speak, he sucks!!!
It totally sucks that Casey was sent home when it should have been Michael; he's just too snarky and arrogant, and what was with the little "side comment" he made about John Giddings a couple of weeks ago? Unprofessional all the way; leave your luv fantasies out of a design competition – nobody cares.
Nevermind that, he's a one trick pony anyway. Casey has been a much more consistent designer, given the goofy themes with flowers and musical instruments, and I'm of the opinion would have shown a lot better had we (as well as the judges) been able to see more individual challenges.
It's also sad to see that the evolution of the show as a whole has become one with the same tone as Survivor and The Associate; Vern just ain't no Donald ("go! – leave the studio!"), and I'm so tired or hearing Genevieve say "it was nothing but a hot mess", I quit watching her show for that reason alone. Of the 3 judges this year, Candice is by far the most enjoyable, has the most creds. PLEASE, HGTV, bring back Clive as the host! and maybe bring in Kim Myles or Lisa LaPorta as a judge, along with Candice.
Check out Emily's awesome behind-the-scenes blog. She is so adorable, and explains a lot: http://www.thebrasspetal.com
Emily slow down when you talk, you know how to design and make a space warm. Bad move to send Casey home she also knows how to do a complete space reusing good pieces of items. HGTV you already have Antonio so you don’t need an artist who uses wheel rims and door latches-Michael is an artist not a designer…..so will be pulling for Emily….
This season is truly uninspiring, from the projects to the folks, and I believe it due to the show format. The team projects without a leader are impractical – I would think that the designer is the only person responsible for the space design in HGTV show, no? Democracy works in politics, not for design teams.
I would have liked to see more of Cortland; glad to see Emily come into her own; very sorry to see Casey go and Michael stay – I kept wondering if there is a behind-the-scene pupetteer that decides who goes, in lieu of the trio; liked both Antonio and Dan last season – saw Dan as an inventive well-rounded interior designer, while Antonio had a very different, but entertaining, style; would have really enjoyed watching Dan; watched all of Anotnio's shows, but there aren't enough – maybe his style doesn't lend itself to mainstream or finding willing makeover targets?
I do love watching David's shows… BRING MORE DESIGN SHOWS in the evenings EST – enough with House Hunters already.
Would you want Antonio redoing YOUR house?
