Secret #16: I love the idea of moving the curtains to one side of a window in order to create height and dimension.

Secret #1: This speaks directly to renters and small-space dwellers: Make your room easily interchangeable with modular furniture that serves multiple purposes. Less cost for fewer pieces, more money to add stylish accessories.

I am trying to decotorate my living room on a non-existant budget. This is my first home and I want to be stylish, but, practical. My taste has always been sort of “country” with the natural wood heart shelves, ect. My husband bought us livingroom furniture that is mocha colored. I am leaning toward a combination of black and spice red for accessories and accents. I am stuck on what color to paint the walls. they are white right now with natural wood trim and wood floors. I don’t want to paint the trim, only the walls. I need some ideas!!! Can You Help Me????

Hi, I am more than ready to change the style of my room that was decorated by my mother, years ago. She had white a white shinny formica bedroom set custom made for my room. My room is already small and adding 3 large pieces of furniture (made with storage in mind) only made it that much smaller. I am really looking forward to changing it and possibly getting rid of some of the furniture. my room is long and narrow (approx 8′x13′). The door to enter the room is on one end and the door to the deck is on the other end. not much space to work with except two walls. One idea I have is to paint the one main wall a deep blue and stenciling lots of gold stars starting from the top of the walls then gradually having less and less as it goes down to center of the wall and very few lower then that. This would give it the falling stars effect but not sure if this idea works with white formica at all and what to do with the other walls. I am also a fan of the color red but red with and white furniture seems to bold. I need help, please!!!!!!!
I have an older home with ALL real wood/Cherry paneling, limited on what I can do. Have a large unused family room with a wood bar and high top table one big wall with family photos would like to redo, other large wall windows. Would also like to get away from carpet but kitchen that meets up to it is tile, which is dicontinued. PLEASE HELP ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT
It was an awesome show with great ideas. I am going to try to implement them when I try my hand at decorating my studio. I was planning on getting a bigger apartment but I just don't want to move.
Hi. I would suggest a tropical tapestry wall hanging with perhaps a martini glasss or koi fish tapestries or something than can liven up the walls.
I have a shop that offers the tapestries at Decor4u.com, so I am partial to the wall decor being attractive and fun to spruce up any room.
Nice tip regarding the curtains. Not only will it add height but also would allow natural light to get in, which will make the space airy and feel more spacious. I liked the third photo…so nice.
I loved this show, especially since Design On A Dime is one of my favorite shows. I also loved FreeStyle. I can’t afford someone like Candace Olson (spelling ?), although, I think she is a fabulous designer. I would love to see more of the shows that teaches you how to do your own spaces while spending as little or no money as possible. P.S: I miss Lee, Summer and Charles, my absolute faves. Where are they???

We are also on a very low budget and i do a lot of DIY projects and have learned a lot from some of the shows but they seem to have shows that have budgets of thousands of dollars instead of hundreds. I wamt shows that help me not make me envious(?). Thanks for letting me vent.

As a school librarian, I would like to redo our elementary (K-6) school library in a western (Texas) theme. Needless to say, the budget is very limited. It needs to have a very inviting look.
Does anyone remember what was used to create this beautiful glass candle holder that was featured on the show? I don’t even remember whose idea it was, but it had a larger candle holder and a smaller one inside, and broken glasses were used to fill the gap and some sort of clear liquid was used to set the glasses in. I want to make the same one but can’t seem to find anything about it. Thanks for your help!
