If you haven’t checked out HGTV’s new show, Dear Genevieve, what are you waiting for? It’s one of the network’s newest makeover shows, and it’s hosted by a designer you may recognize. I first fell for Genevieve Gorder when she was an unpretentious, bouncy, barefooted designer on Trading Spaces whose work was almost always wow-worthy. As the host and designer of Dear Genevieve, she’s slightly more composed but just as passionate. From what I’ve seen so far, Genevieve carries her own show with grace and exuberance and offers up plenty of good design and creative ideas to boot.
If you’ve missed Dear Genevieve, here’s a look back and a sneak peek of the episode premiering tonight at 8:30 p.m. On the show’s premiere, Genevieve went above and beyond for a family of six, even taking them to get their first family photos in more than a decade for wall art that’s truly memorable. Genevieve created several storage solutions and activity zones and left this deserving family with a stylish, functional space. Check it out!
Like what you see? Get in on it! Upload your problem room(s) here and Genevieve just might knock on your door! Be specific about your design dilemma, and be sure to show off your family’s personality in your video.

Love, Love your show. You are so creative and are able to reflect a design suited for each decorating design. Maybe it’s because you are more creative going barefoot. Maybe you could help me fix what was suppose to be a den. We need really need help and we feel you are the ony one who can fix our mess. It was suppose to have a lodge decor, Imagine that. Help, help please.
dedicated fan and viewer,

I haven’t seen this show but it looks like Genevieve does a nice job with making real lived-in spaces more efficient. I’ll have to check it out…
Genevieve–Please don’t say “shay lounge” when you mean “chaise longue.” It’s been driving me crazy for years that TV designers say “chase lounge.” The correct pronunciation is “shez long” “Chaise longue” is French for “long chair.” Don’t make things worse by saying “shay” for “chaise.”
Thanks for bringing that up Judy. I also wish designer's would quit saying colors "pop" – it's a way over used buzz word. Unfortunately Genevieve's approach to decorating is not my cup of tea. She might want to team up with that Tatiana – the realtor with the wild blonde hair. I can't believe that woman has a show – she is just plain scary looking.
Genevieve over-talks and seems quite fond of herself – seems aloof and seeing her on a panel as a judge with the gifted Candace Olson is ridiculous. Genevieve is way of her league. Fortunately I have a remote control when her show comes on.
Hi,
The pictures are simply superb. It gives a new look to the home. I really enjoyed a lot.
Thank you
Nancy.
Asking for help-my kitchen is 15 years old and needs some current tlc. Recovering from breast cancer and a knee replacement haven’t let me freshen up my wallpapered kitchen. I don’t have a good eye for clean lines and current colors. I would LOVE your help.
How exciting! My daughter and I have been a fan of Genevieve’s design creativity since the beginning of Trading Spaces. We are looking forward to seeing more episodes!

I wish you can help me, my bedroom is a shame to even me I really dislike going in there. When last have you seen or heard of ‘LINOLEUM’ in the bedroom, that is what I have on the floor, and to make it worse some are broken especially under the bed legs.It would be a ‘DREAM’ come true if you can help me.Thanking you in advance.

I am trying to come up with some ideas for converting a part of my shed into an island theme bar. We are buying a home in lower DE and I want to be able to convert part of the shed into a bad. Any ideas???
Hi Genevieve,
I normally enjoy your show but I saw your episode on design space for the combo office/scrapbook room (Acuri’s) and wanted to comment on it. There was so much going on in that room, it even looked claustrophobic on TV. As an avid scrapbooker myself, seeing carpet in a craft room (think glitter, glue and other messy supplies) just makes me cringe. Opting to cover the wood with what looked like green astroturf made it look cheap. Carpet with computers and rolling chairs isn’t functional either (static and carpet fibers BAD for computers). This really missed the mark for me in both style and functionality, I know you can do better!
I thought she did awesome with all that stuff in such a tiny room! Hey, give her snaps on that! It was terrific!!
I enjoy your show very much. The very pale green color you put on the wall during the new years day show is the exact color I have been looking for. I need to paint our living room in the home we have occupied for over 42 years. (We have painted several times in 42 years) Could you please give me the brand and name of the paint color. Thank you

Hi “G”,
So good to see you back and just in time to help me reclaim my house. I have been my Mom’s care giver for the last 10 years with over 8 of them in my home. We intentionally bought a house that would accomodate two ladies under one roof. We bought a home with an attached Casita. She will be going to an assisted living home the end of Jan. and I would like that part of the house that I have never used to be personalized and reclaimed. I had to add safety features to the bathroom, I had someone cut out the side of the tub to make it into a walk in shower with grab bars. Now the tile is beginning to seperate from the shower, the area that was cut out is beginning to rust. Mom is a girly girl and has polished her nails even with Parkinsons so she has ruined the vainty top with her spills. The bathroom is small and needs to be reconfigured to better use the space. I would love for you to come and share your design ideas and give me my home back. If you get here soon you can enjoy the AZ weather which is perfect right now. In any event I am so glad to have you back and congradulations on your new addition.
Look forward to your help if you decide to come to AZ.
Reclaiming my home,
Pat Kraft
You really have a good eye for design! I thought I only loved Candice Olson now I have to add you to my favoirtes! I have too many design delimmas to list. I wouldn’t know which one to pick so I just wanted to say love your new show and I have watched you since Trading Spaces and love your enthusiasm!
I love you and your show. I watch you all the time.I am in need of your help so I hope you pick me. I had to have both knees replaced and one has not done as well as the other has. So I have a hard time going up and down stairs, so I wanted to make my kitchen larger by knocking the wall that goes into a bedroom. This way I could also make a laundry room up stairs. I would really like your help on this project. PLEASE HELP ME. Thank You Donna Lourens
I fell asleep watching HGTV last night and woke up to the commercial for your new show, and immediately had to look online to see about your new family. Nada.
Anyhow, have sort of a problem if you are interested. My house was built in 1824 (Ohio). I think Madison or Monroe was president. We had a pretty bad fire in 1997 and although the ‘bones’ remained, the house was gutted and rebuilt on the insurance companies idea of replacement value. It does not feel ‘old’ anymore. The kitchen has ‘wood’ laminate floors and stainless steel appliances (okay, 1 ss). My dilemma is the counter-top back-splash is separating and pulling away from the wall as though it was fighting ever being there in the first place! No doubt it’s from the many hundreds of dishes we do at gatherings (7 kids, most married-lost count of grand-kids) and counter-top/sink food prep and water fights! I would like to find some kind of material for counters that belongs there, plus, what then do you do with the backsplash? Glass tiles are awesome but look too modern, not enough room for brick, and the one appliance will be jealous if I use stainless steel. Maybe concrete (granite is too pretentious) that can sustain the abuse to which we will certainly subject it.
Realize you have people stepping over themselves to submit questions and this is not crucial, just hoping it would be make your ‘fix’ list.
PS We don’t wear shoes in the house either!

My parents are so busy dealing with four kids that they have never been able to have a room to themselves. There room has never been updated for the 10 years we've lived in our house. There furniture does not match! There's Indian nic-nac's everywhere. It's just way to cluderd. There bedspread was givin to them about 15 years ago and they've never gottin a new one. My parents have always wanted a master bedroom to just go in there and relax. They rarley go in there because it's all crowded and messy. If you would help us, that would be great! Message back.

Dear Genevieve,
Hello my name is Tanja Ortiz. I love your show and watch you all the time. I love your work. I think it’s really great and love your ideas. I have always wanted a new kitchen that I could enjoy but never could afford it. My kitchen has no counter space or cabinet space and it is very unorganized. My husband and I don’t have the money to redo it. After watching you make dreams come true for many people I was hoping you could help me make my dream come true. Pretty much everything I have or get is from someone else. I never ask for much because I always put everyone else first. It would be great to get something for myself for a change, but I need help getting it done. Could you please help make me the happiest girl in the world.
Thanks,
Tanja
Hi G.
Need your help BAD!!! I am a very creative person and have a pretty good eye for decorating and fashion, however I have a basement family room that has stumped me and I dont know how to place furniture and decorate this room. It is a long area the size of the entire house, there is nothing separating/dividing off any of this area to define any area. I am at a total loss I have color and window treatments up but can not determine what kind of furniture or how to place it. I would like to have cabinets, sink and microwave in one area with a bar. There is this pole with a sink in the center of one side of the room, not sure what my husband was thinking of when he did this. I would like to use the other area as a media area but again I dont even know where/how to startt. Need your expertise.
Help, I have a bowling alley for a living room, I have a brick fireplace on one wall and I painted the two outer walls to bring it in. I need some idea on what to put on the walls. At one end I have a enterment Center , it is the wall above the couch that I’m having trouble with.I have Taupe walls, beige carpet and the outer walls are burgendy
Hi…
“Soaring” Problem! We have plans for a major Reno on our home…but A Soaring Problem has developed. Massive open, high ceiling space in our family room is creating a vast open, high wall about the fireplace. The mantel will be wood with at 65″ TV over it, but what to do with the wall space above? We are so perplexed, we may have to lover the ceiling. The home is Traditional Colonial with hugh arched windows on either side of the fireplace. This is driving us NUTS!
I have a 5x 10 windowless bathroom. My granddaughter has chose a black and white fabric with musical notes on it for the shower curtain and I have found a border for the top of the room with the same musical notes. My question is what color should I paint the walls. She wants red but I am afraid of the “cave” feeling. Her floors are
white ceramic tile but there is a tan tile behind the commode and vanity. Please Help!!
hi, we are doing our bedroom as a beach theme and we have a wall mural of the beach. we need to know how to paint clouds on the ceiling can you help.thanks frances
We have two very long (12 ft) patio doors that need draperies. I want to stack the drapes all on one side. Somewhere I have seen a track system that is installed on the ceiling, with short beaded chains holding the pleats of the draperies, that enables you to easily pull the drapes to one side. Do you know where I could find this track? Do you have a better idea? Thanks.
I would like to see more rooms done with stained wood (doors/base boards/door jams) instead of painted wood. I love the painted wood, however, replacing or painting it is not an option for us (expense). I need help with some paint color ideas with the stained wood. Please help! Thanks.
My new favorite show!
Can you tell me where the bedspread came from on the Tiny Bedroom (Cabo inspired) episode, please??
I have about a 10 foot opening between my dining room and my play room. I would like some ideas on how to seperate the two without being too pricey. I have 2 kids and a babysit several also. I need to be able to seperate the dog and the kids without locking up the dog all the time. Gates that large are very expensive. ( I live in Florida and my house layout is very open)
Dear Genevieve,
So glad you’re back! I always loved your style on Trading Spaces and happy to see you return to what you do best. I need help! I actually love most of my home, and think I’ve done a pretty decent job in most rooms. However, my 21 y/o daughter’s room has me stumped. It’s the smallest room in the house, and I just can’t seem to come up with a GREAT plan to make her room as special as she is! We live in Long Island and would love to see what you could come up with. Hoping to hear from you….
I hope this goes through. I am trying to contact someone from HGTV (I love you all, regarding my nephew. He is in the Air Force and owns his own home, was on TDY in Guam when his wife (now ex) served him with papers. He was in the midst of remodeling his bungalow type home when all this happened. He took this very hard and has lost all interest now in his home. I went to him and got him motivated enuf to where we worked on the kitchen, but he has lost all desire. This bothers him very much and I wish there was some way HGTV could go to his home and get him back together. He works so hard. Please contact me as I have tried every site on your network but cannot get through. I just would love to surprise him and have someone come out and show him there are still good people out there. I live 11 hours away from him so I can’t keep hopping over to motivate him. Please help. Thanx.

Dear Genevieve,
I love your show!! Glad your back!! We need help!!! We have just bought our first home!!! We love our house! We are having some trouble with our bedroom and with the living/family rooms. Our bedroom is the best we have ever had! But not sure how to get that look we want?? Also our living/family rooms are small and run together with a half wall between them. Things do not fit well in the rooms. The small shape makes it hard to figure out. The half wall what to do with that?? Any help you can give would be great!! We hope to hear from you!!! Thanks a million!
Dear Genevieve,
Let me begin to tell you how much I love watching your show!! I watch you non stop!
My boyfriend Jake and I just bought our first house this month and we are so excited to start making it our own. However, the room we didnt care for was the living room which we find ourself hanging out in the most. It is just such a long and narrow room and we dont know what to do to make it come alive.
We love getting ideas and learning about different styles you bring to people on your shows, but we are lost in how to achieve the room we want! It seems we have way too many ideas and dont have a clue where to start, what type of style best fits us, or just to agree on something we both like. Im afraid it will end up being a room that is dull and include all our “hand me downs” poorly in a poorly staged way, instead of a room to entertain and relax with family and friends.
I would really be thrilled and honored if you could come to cold North Dakota and help us find our style so that we can start our house living out on the right path. We wish so badly that we could be the happy people on TV with you. please help us!!!!!!!!
Jess Parizek and Jake Watson
Dear Genevieve,
Bellamissio!! I have been a fan of yours for many years. Your so articulate and right on cue of what your fans needs and wants are, and fulfill their dreams so easily.
I have re-done the three bedrooms and bathroom upstairs, and now I look at my dining room, kitchen and living room and can’t seem to put it all together! The family room is, uhmm, workable, well not as in desperate help as the other rooms. I do alot of entertaining, holding all holiday family dinners and weekend dinner parties here. I LOVE the Tuscani style of decor, as I am Italian, but just don’t know how to get started, or even if it will work in this space. My home is in despearate need of paint and flooring, but I’m not able to do what I was, due to my disabilities. My husband works 70 hours a week, and if you do knock on my door, Tuscani-style lasagna and laughs will be greeting you!

Dear Genevieve:
I want to replace my kitchen counters with marble but have been told:
1. Don ‘t do it, marble is too porous amd stains easily – or –
2. If you wipe up spills quickly and seal it every week (i.e. when you clean the kitchen) you should be ok.
Who is right?
Whose is right?
Genevieve, I’m 67 yrs. old and for the first time in my life I was able to buy a villa condo 3yrs ago. I was a single parent living in an apartment working 3 jobs and raising three children. The condo was a mess when I saw it, but I knew it had potential. The living room has been painting and new carpeting put down, tile in the entranceway and kitchen. Unfortunatley the kitchen and bathroom are very outdated and a coat of paint still doesn’t hide the drabness of them.I could sure use your help in trying to update one or the other.
Please help me !!!
I’ve always loved you, even from the first day I saw you on Trading Spaces
Dear Genevieve
I live on the Island of St Kitts in the Caribbean. My husband and I are about to remodel our bedroom and master bathroom. Our bath room size is 6X10 we do not want to move the pluming from where they are. We would love a spa like room. The bedroom is 10×13 we only have our bed, chester draws and a T.V with a built in cupboard for our cloths. Please could you help us on putting our thoughts together. Should I send pictures .
Hello Genevieve Darling,
We were married in 2006. When we met, people told us we were too far in age to make this work. (25 yrs apart) When the law finally said it was ok for us to marry, they gave us a little window of time. Well we did it again in 2008. And after being together this long and watching your show on trading spaces and so forth, we as a team decided that we couldnt get anything done around here because 1 we couldnt agree on anything and 2 because no body could build or paint anything worth while lol. hahaha. the one major problem i (gaylene) have with this home is that the kitchen seems a little … how can i say polietly, UGLY very ugly! and shirley is the cook and never complains about a thing. shes the heart and soul of my being and i could not live with out her in my life. i want to see her happy. i want her to know that living in a modular home (because thats all i could afford for us) is our home of new memories and love that fills to the beams. she is amazing and wonderful and deserves nothing but the best. but lmao i cant build a thing if i tried to. i wish for once i could do something to this home that she would be able to smile at each and every day. since that would be the kitchen, i would love to have your hand on it.
We have lived in this house 10 years, and everything is painted white,I’m wanting to give the kitchen some color, but can’t seem to figure out which walls stay in the kitchen area and which go into the living room, the kitchen has a high ceiling that tapers down over our eating area,I’m liking a yellow because we have dark cabinets,I could send a picture, I know your too busy, and I really like your help, thanks, Sheri
Hi my favorate HGTV designer. I loooove your show I think it awsome. Even before you made Dear Genevieve show I watched you on Trading Spaces I liked that one to, but nothing likr this one. I love all of your designs, but can’t pull of any of them. How do I get you to come into my house, please please please come to my house my kitchen needs help.
Dear Gen,
I too am a big fan. Have always loved your work especially the creative things you have done with photography. My husband is an amatuer photography and takes great pics (in my opinion) so I’m looking for different ways to display them, other than in frames. Any ideas?
Also to second a comment made by a prior posting, I have all walnut stained trim throughout my home and can’t afford to paint it all. Many questions on paint color, wood floor selections. How do you make various types of wood work – do they all have to be dark or light?
thanks for listening and I will continue to be an avid watcher of your show.
