  4. The new show is great. It is so true, a fresh coat of paint makes a big splash. I just painted my bathroom and everyone keeps asking what I did and all the work I did. Wow, paint, it goes a long way. Thank you.

  5. Hello Jennifer Bertrand,

I want to paint my house and I am not sure which colours to use.

I live in Toronto and is it possible if you visit my place and let me know what I should do.

    Thanks,

    Zalikha

  6. I need help with painting laminate cabinets. Just installed walnut flooring and tile in my bathroom. But the cabinets look so cheesy. Don’t know whether to paint them the same color of the walls or darker in the same color spectrum. Colors are antique gold/peachy-more of a antique look. Thanks for any help.

  7. Deborah,

I have recently gone through the same predicament. I decided that I wasnted a more rich feel to go with the new tile, so, I found burnt umber (dark brown almost black) and painted the cabinets – after the primer paint (highly recommend Sherwin Williams – tell them to darken the primer with as much black as they can fit into the can) this will seal the cabinets and provided a great surface to paint on. Anyway, I then went to my local Hobby Lobby craft store and in the art section I picked up a wax crayon the color of Autumn Red-Orange. Now back on my cabinets they have a routed section in the center of the doors and drawers, laying the crayon on its side I ran it along the edge of the routed part basically outlining the edges of the door and highlighting the decorative parts. I then gently ran my finger over the wax, somewhat rubbing it in, feathering the look a bit so that it wasn’t to chunky looking. When finished, I put a clear matte coat of paint over everything and now everone that comes in and looks at the job thinks that I had a custom cabinet put in. It feels great to spend 1 weekend, 1 qt. of tinted (as black as possible) primer, 1 qt. of paint, 1 wax crayon, and 1 qt clear coat = $36 and got a $500+ look! Good luck!

  11. Need help with paint color. My husband’s 64″
TV in our family room is against a 17′ wide x
8′ high wall. It sits on an attractive wood
base. I love mid-tone fun color but am desperate to find one with enough depth to
keep light from bouncing off of it and distract from the TV image. Any ideas?

  13. Jenn! WHERE ARE YOU??? I’ve been waiting to see your new show Paint-Over! I thought it was suppose to start in January. I watch HGTV daily and I haven’t heard anything about your show! What’s going on? Please tell.

  14. Yeah, where is your show? Someone better tell us where you are, or people will lose interest. By the way, I have an office in my home that is driving me nuts, so if anyone wants to fix it at their cost, and put it on TV, then that is fine with me. I am an eBay Power Seller, and I sell clothes.. My husband got cancer, and will be off work for 2 months starting April 17th 2009 for a major operation, so I need to make some extra money to help us get by. It would be great if someone fixed up my work space to make things easier for me. I live in a lovely 2 story home, but my office got neglected. Oh well, looking forward to your show Jennifer. My husband and I watched the whole competition and we both liked you the best. We were very happy when you won. Congrats!!!

  15. Hi Jennifer, can’t wait to see your show! I really need advice on transitioning from family room to kitchen paint colors. Do both rooms have to be same color? There is an arch between rooms. The family room is Behr pinedale shores which I love, but I dont think is right for kitchen. What about one shade lighter with touches of pinedale shores, maybe stripes or a band on one kitchen wall? Im cant decide, the lighting in both rooms is bad, with only 10ft ceiling. Medium wood tone floor in family room with transition of med tone tile in kitchen. medium wood stain kitchen cabs and stilestone beige with darker specs of browns. Thanks, Mary

  17. Welcome aboard! I have a shed that I would like to paint to match my home. I got paint made to match the siding (beige) and paint for the trim (chocolate). I also got primer. Would you please advise me how to prepare the wooden shed so I can apply the primer. Must I wash it down first? Also, how long should it sit with the primer on before rain? Rain is predicted tomorrow afternoon and I don’t want the rain to ruin what I have done. Thanks so much!!

  18. I need help choosing color for my living room.
It’s a well lit room with skylights. Rectangle in shape and is basically a walk through room. I Have an L shaped sectional that is a dark navy almost black color. Also a tre ceiling. Would like to do it in the blue brown color combination. Is this possible?

Connie Wehrle on May 14, 2009 at 2:21 PM
  19. I do not really like white trim. Can I paint it a different color? My wall color is swiss coffee (off white). It is so difficult to keep white baseboards clean with 7 boys.
    Thanks
