I don’t know about you, but I am excited about the new host of HGTV Showdown. Aussie Jamie Durie opened the second season of the show that pairs up HGTV talent and then pits them against each other. The drama plays out on a soundstage, so viewers get to see the good, the bad and the ugly – it’s basically an all-access pass. (Just before the competition began, Jamie divulged that carpenter and contestant Eric Stromer had been in a car accident. His car rolled over and hit a tree, but he was ready for the Showdown. Do we have dedicated hosts or what?)
It’s been a while since United States’ audiences were introduced to a rising Australian star, and Jamie is no newbie to the spotlight. A horticulturalist and landscape designer, Jamie has hosted lifestyle television programs in Australia, hosts Victory Gardens on PBS and is a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show. He designed a line of outdoor products (PATIO) and has written several books. He is an environmentalist and volunteer who has worked to raise AIDS awareness in Uganda and advocated for the Children’s Cancer Institute.
Jamie’s resume is as impressive as how he commanded the Showdown stage. I hope to see more of him and his designs on HGTV. Do you? While you’re at it, what did you think of the show? Did you pick the winner? Will you watch next week?
