This time next week, fellow decorating editor Chelsey Bowen and I will be navigating High Point Market, working to uncover the best, the brightest, the most interesting of next year’s furniture and accessories offerings. We have our work cut out for us. High Point is the largest furnishings trade show in the world, featuring 12 million square feet of showroom space. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever as the Market celebrates its 100th year. We will be two people among an estimated 85,000 packing the small town of High Point, North Carolina.
We can’t wait to get there, to experience the spectacle and to pass along all the goodies we find to you. Here are just a few of the things I’m most excited about seeing at High Point Market:
· HGTV’s own Angelo Surmelis will be speaking at Market although not with his furniture line – coming soon! We will attend his seminar, “Your Customer is Still Out There. Find Out Where and What They Want” and will tell you what he had to say.
· Longtime upholstery company, Norwalk, is under new ownership and will be showing its collections in a new space. That includes the furniture collection of Divine Design host Candice Olson. I’m excited to see two of her line’s new pieces, a chair and an ottoman. The chair is described as a sexy wingback with tufting; the ottoman as a fun, multi-functional piece.
· Walt Disney Signature Outdoor Collection by Veneman, a company known for its handcrafted outdoor furniture. I’m interested to see furniture inspired by the great Walt Disney. Veneman also will be showing pieces from its commercial collection by Roger Thomas, designer of the Wynn in Las Vegas.
· BoBo Intriguing Objects is a company that I am intrigued about. I love the few pieces I’ve seen such as the chandelier (above) made out of fallen tree branches. I am also intrigued by the company name, a combination of bourgeois and bohemian. An appropriate ending to my first High Point 2009 post. Bookmark this blog for more!
