I love the smell of a clean, scented house. My favorite combo is Murphy’s Oil and incense, a churchy but homey smell.
If I had to name a favorite incense it’d be Shoyeido’s Moss Garden, which makes the air smell like a quiet day in the forest. (Check out Shoyeido’s Making Scents blog for an inside look at their products.) I burn my incense in a leaf-shaped pottery burner that has a permanent spot on my mantel.
One year, my SIL, knowing my love of all things smelly (in a good way), gave me the Red Currant candle from Votivo.
It comes in a heavy glass votive, wrapped in twine with a fingernail-sized metal seal, simultaneously rustic and refined. The smell is distinctively fruity; I love it on summer days. Put a cluster of them on the counter to dress up the bathroom for parties.
This week our office received two reed diffusers from Greenleaf Gifts.
We popped open the pretty packaging and tried them, pouring in the fig-scented oil and arranging reeds. The diffusers are well-made — not flimsy like so many — with stylish designs and they look great on our office bookshelves. The fig oil is earthy/sweet and calming in the midst of the busy work day. I’ll have to see if I can sneak one home. (PS The diffusers look like they’d make beautiful vases. I can just see mine sporting a single bright-faced daisy.)
