This Thursday kicks off the 127 Corridor Sale, otherwise known as The World’s Longest Yard Sale. What started in 1987 as a way to get people off the highways and onto the back roads of Tennessee and Kentucky is now a 654 mile phenomenon. Starting in Gadsden, Alabama the yard sale winds its way up to Chattanooga, TN (with a brief trip through Georgia) up to Jamestown, TN (the Headquarters of the 127 sale) and continues up through Kentucky, onto Cincinnati, OH and ending in Northwest Ohio. With so much to see and buy, its impossible to cover the entire route over the 4 days of the sale. And even worse, the blog team only has ONE DAY to see as much as we can!
Update 2: We’ll be live blogging over here all day.
Update 1: The blog team just posted our wishlists for the roadtrip this morning.
So early Thursday morning we’ll be packing up a car and leaving Knoxville for Chattanooga along I-75. We’ll take a right in Chattanooga and head back north through Dunlap on Rt 127. We’ll continue up 127 through Pikeville and up to Crossville, where we’ll pick up I-40 and head back home (exhausted I’m sure) to Knoxville. According to Google Maps its about 260 miles roundtrip.
While HGTV has covered The World’s Longest Yard Sale before, this will be my first year attending. Now I have to admit I’m not much of a yard sale person, but this just seemed so cool that I had to go and see it for myself. So to get ready, I went to check out HGTV’s Tips for Attending the World’s Longest Yard Sale. I know everything along the way will be cash only, so I am looking forward to a little haggling and bargain hunting.
Have any of you been to the 127 corridor sale before? Any tips to offer? Come back tomorrow for our list of items we’re hoping to find along the way!
