House to Home

Things I love include: seeing how people live by visiting them at home, hor d’oeuvres or tapas and great conversation. That’s why I’m usually the first to accept an invite to a house warming party. I like the idea of helping someone to turn a house into a home. The hard part of this is choosing the perfect gift.

You want to give something useful, attractive and appropriate. I’ve found something that I think fits the bill perfectly (and I’m a little obsessed too). Take a look at these stylish and practical fire extinguishers by Fire Design. Every home should have at least one.

So what’s the worst house warming gift you’ve ever received?

  1. I received a set of 4 placemats. They were being re-gifted to me. They were slightly dusty on one edge and they had the scent of cat pee. I suspect they were stuck in a closet and the resident cat peed on them at some point. Really – a dirt clod would have been a better gift.

  5. Wow those are really cool! The worst gift I'd received were socks. My parents had divorced and my grandmother (dad's mom) had decided not to equally distribute. Anyhow we (my siblings and I) opened up the very meager gifts while my other cousins received toys, clothes, and the like. I really would have liked books — I'm quite the bookworm. Anything could have been better than socks! So I now make it a point to be very vocal about the things I'd like. lol!! This past holiday I had found a soy/cotton blend monogrammed robe on http://www.womensrobeshop.com and so I told my mother to add that to the cart. Since the quality was great they tend to be slightly more expensive. I told her it was ok for the gift to double as a b-day gift also…we are in a recession after all. =0). Happy New Year!
