Good grief already! Let's stop taking shots at Antonio. For all you nay-sayers that are giving up HGTV….I say "I doubt it". It's the best television network out there. I also wish I knew how they chose the makeover families. Does anyone have an answer?
i AM SO VERY DISPOINTED. dAN'S DESIGN WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN ANTONIO, HIS DEMEANOR IS SO NICE. ANTONIO IS A MISTAKE. HE DID NOT TAKE HIS DESIGNS TO THE FULLEST EVEN IN A SMALL WAY. WHO THOUGHT THOSE CHAIRS WENT WITH THE GREEN PAINT. GIVE US A BREAK. YOU TEACH US,, THEN ACT LIKE SNAKES YOURSELVES.aNTONIO IS JUST A SET DESIGNER AND dAN IS A REAL INTERIOR DESIGNER.
HGTV was my favorite channel and Candace Olsen was my hero. Not anymore. I am so dissappointed that Dan was not choosen as the winner. Clearly, the producers decided they wanted Antonio's personality and they disgarded the real talent the had in Dan. I feel so sorry for the poor family that ended up with Antonio's house makeover. What a mess. You screwed up HGTV and you should be ashamed of what you did. I won't know how you deal with it as I am done with your channel. Also, sick to death of House Hunters, Design on a Dime and Property Virgins.
This was the best year for the great talent that was on the show this time. They had harder challenges they ended up with the cream of the crop in the final four. These two men made each other work that much harder to be great. Dan and Antonio made each other better. They had to work harder than if one or the other was not on the show.
Dan was my favorite as well. But I will try Antonio"s show at least once. Antonio is the American Dream. He worked hard and achieved the Dream. Is that not what we would all like to do. Take action and get it done.Without formal training in decoration, he could still make it happen. Who else is going to go for their dreams?
Dan will come out on top, someone will have seen his great talent and snatch him up for a show of his own somewhere even if it is not on HGTV. He will get his chance. They will be glad to have a person like him.
All the best to you Dan. Thank you for the hard work that you did to make this season such a pleasure to watch. You always came up with interesting ideas for everything that you did. Great job to all that worked so hard on the show win or not – it makes it fun to watch.

I think I've become addicted to blogging. What a shame? After reading what the designer/judges had to say about Dan and Antonio's designs, it really ALL made sense. I didn't know that Antonio was a carpenter. To be a great designer and a carpenter is a real plus for the show.
Well, hands down Dan was by far the better designer.. It seemed that the judges got hung up on Dan'snervous laugh. I thought it was refreshing, it showed he was a very real and sensitive personality, The brash persona and personality of Antonio was obnoxious and I will not watch his show. I love to watch designs I can enjoy, not ones that match an obnoxious personality. What really surprised me was the judges choosing him. I think Candace Olsen is the best designer on HGTV.
I am personally disappointed in the outcome of this years judging. Lonni and Dan are professionals with humility and great talent who deserved to have their work showcased. I am disappointed that I will no longer be able to watch either of them dazzle me with their amazing artistry.
I truly wish Antonio well. There are obviously many people out there that like to be entertained by a designer and like his particular style. The judging panel is catering to the audience, not themselves, so I certainly hold nothing against them for not picking my favorites. I just want Lonni and Dan to know that I would have picked one of them because "I" preferred their work over all the others that competed. I hope that this exposure brings them more work than they can handle… for a long time to come.
I think both designers were great. I have to admitt, I liked Dan's final design a little better but I thought they were both great. I also want to comment on Cheri's reponse. I know that Lonnie & Dan are professionals and went to school for this but I dont think that just because they went to school they should have beat Antonio out. Now I know you liked their designs better but some people just have natural talent. Some people may not be able to go to school at all. Maybe due to cost or any other reason but I think if you got it, you just got it. I wouldn't pick someone who has more experience or training versus someone that doesn't, I would pick on how good they are. I think everyone did a great job! Congrats Antonio!!!!
I know you weren't saying they deserved to be picked over Antonio because of their training so I apologize. I understand you were simply stating that Dan & Lonnie's work should be showcased as well. I do agree with that. But, not because of them being professionals, but, because of their good work.
This smells like a setup. Did the HGTV execs decide they had too many gay men on the network? Dan's talent was undeniable, the depth of his designs, the freshness of what he was doing, made him a real artist. It was laughable to see Vern and Genevieve judging someone they themselves could not rival. Only Candace had any business judging his work, and who knows what she really thought, since that information was discreetly withheld from the audience. That the viewers picked Dan should give HGTV a clue: give this guy a show. If you don't somebody else will, and boy will you be embarrassed.
Dan should have won, hands down. What Antonio lacks that Dan has is CLASS! Dan should also be given a show, it certainly would outshine Antonio. Someone compared Dan to David on Color Splash. Color Splash gets taped at my house, I personally like more of a good thing. Like some other viewers, I too liked Lonnie over Antonio. HGTV, think twice before letting Dan go.
I waited to see the comments and many reflect my thoughts. I had picked Dan from the time the trailers for the show started to appear. He was consistently a rung above the others. I think in competency he was the winner, hands down. However; during the week before the show, I considered another facet. Dan reminds me of David in many ways and they share some of the same talents. Where would he fit in their lineup? Not a way to judge but it just may be what happened. Maybe they should have given them a joint show.
True Dan is extremely talented and cute! So is everyone else on HGTV. I picked Antonio the first week and took the ride with him. Maybe he is not a pretty boy and is a little rough around the edges but he is clever and talented. The edges can be honed. Give the guy a chance!!!!!

I thought Lonnie was the best, but I liked Dan too. I might watch Antonio if he was chosen by the public as the other Design Stars have been in the past. I also disagree that Candace did not make her choice known. She almost drooled over Antonio, but I guess she likes tatoos.
DAN SWEPT ANTONIO UNDER THE TABLE WITH ALL OF HIS DESIGNS ESPECIALLY THE FINALE ONE.I WILL NEVER WATCH THIS SHOW AGAIN, I'M SURE IF THE PUBLIC HAD PICKED, DAN WOULD HAVE WON HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. SOMETHINGS FISHY!!!!

I agree about something being "fishy". There is a lot we don't know about these television programs….the politics, sponsors' clout, and pressure from who knows where. Like someone else suggested, maybe they didn't want any more gays and wanted to round out the designer stigma with some diamond in the rough/macho kind of guy…We'll never know. In all fairness, I do hope they do something to promote Dan, who along with Lonni, were the best overall designers.
Dan should have been the winner!! He clearly got better compliments from the judges & did a way betterjob than Antonio!! I will not be watching Antonio's show!!
Read between the lines, they picked Antonio because they liked his unique personality and they're only interested in a new type of host. Dan was hands down the better designer but too similar to David Bromstead. Hey, HGTV is this a contest for best design or personality? Unfair promotion. Also, way too much carpentry involved in the challenges. I want to see more time for them to design and not worry about the actual building!
Sorry, LOVED Antonio!!! Dan was too predictable, and NOT a good host. Antonio is fresh, untrained and imaginative. Didn't like Dan at all! Can't wait to see Antonio's show!!
It was a set-up, Dan was obviously much more talented. But the skinny blonde judge wanted to see Antonio's tool. Nasty.
Antonio is a disaster. I saw his new show yesterday and he does not have an ounce of class or design
sense. He is just a tattoo guy and his house looks like a giant bad tattoo.
Give Dan a show people and fire Antonio.

I also think HGTV judges made a huge mistake in choosing Antonio over Dan. He is so fun, handsome land talented. Antonio is…well…different. I have not watched one of his shows; not in definace but because he is too uniquely unappealing.
