Today’s HGTV looks very different than it did when we launched in December 1994. We’ve been reflecting fondly about those early days around the office, and from those conversations was born new series for Design Happens, HGTV Vintage. We decided to open up the HGTV vaults and take a look back into our past.

This week we set the DeLorean to June 2, 1996 to an episode of a show called What’s Your Hobby hosted by Eric Boardman.  In it, Eric interviews Sharon Moyer, a rabid puppet enthusiast, who shows us her extensive puppet collection of marionettes, stick puppets and hand puppets.

You can find out more about the Inernational Puppetry Museum at http://www.puppetrymuseum.org.

If there are some “classic” HGTV shows that you’ve just been dying to see, let us know in the comments.  I can’t make any promises, but I’ll see what I can do.

I have heard that there is an episode that featured Jimmy Kimmel. He and his wife had a room made over in their house. This took place before he was well-know. Can we see a clip of that?

  3. How fun to see the vintage HGTV! I agree with Michelle above… would love to see the Kimmel episode. I remember seeing it (though I thought he was well known at the time). I think it was Designing for the Sexes or maybe Designer's Challenge (I think that was the name… couple picks out of 3 designers). I would pay to see it again!
