We’re happy to announce that Freebie Fridays are back! For anyone who missed our last round of Freebies, each week we’ll post a question here on Design Happens on Friday. You have until 12 Noon ET on Monday to comment on this post with a valid email address and you’re entered for that week’s giveaway. It’s that simple!
We’ve partnered with Saffron Marigold to kick off this new round of Freebie Fridays. They describe themselves as “cozy boutique, home to an exquisite collection of exotic, unique, designer handcrafted, India inspired bedding and linens.” Their commitment to fair trade and use of eco-friendly products really impressed us here at Design Happens. Saffron Marigold is offering this week’s winner their choice of any table runner featured on their site.
This week we want to know – What’s normally on your dining table when you’re NOT expecting company? Is it always neat and tidy with a bowl of fruit and some candlesticks? Or are you like me and its normally covered in the last week’s worth of mail and maybe a cat or two?
Answer before 12 Noon ET on Monday. Click here for the Official Rules

My dinning table is always clean, with a 3 tier candle set on it. My kitchen island is the place that I can't keep the junk off.
I am about ready to toss out table. It seems to be a catch all for my husband no matter how many containers or cupboards I give him to use. We live in a small house and clutter only makes it look smaller. And when I ask him to move his stuff, he puts it on his dresser which then becomes another clutter zone.
A basquet with two white poinsetta pots!
A heather blue and gold table runner that I love and a centerpiece with fall colored leaves and candles. Now my kitchen table on the other hand………………..covered with a snapshot of how my life really is: bills, a catalog, a magazine I promise to read this week, and a couple toys my grandkids forgot to take with them when they went home last weekend.
A myriad of diaster! -Cloth napkins, the mail, a lunch bag, umbrella and a few plastic bags!
We have four leather place mats that are wipeable because of the childern. We also have a large glass bowl with 3 hand blown glass balls in it and a glass covered cake plate for cookies. Of course mail always finds its place on the table no matter how much I complain. And my kids homework and school bags are in the chairs!
My dining room table has Christmas decorations on it! Otherwise it has a runner I've quilted or cobalt blue candle holders. I love that blue.
There always seems to be bills on the table! However right now there is also valentines day decorations. I have cute red serving plate with candles….(actually looks cute!)….However doesn't really go with my kitchen theme.
just candlesticks, a bowl, and probably a little dust
Since most of our mail, newspapers, keys, etc. clutter up the kitchen counters our table is usually clear of misc. stuff. Typically we have a tablecloth and some wonderful hot pads made of wood from World Market on the table.
My table is neat. I do not like clutter on my table. there is a basket in the living room to drop the mail in daily..
My table is usually pretty neat with the occasional paper, baseball cap etc. I do notice that if you don't keep up with it, the extra items can get out of hand very quickly..
Although I am constantly cleaning it off, it usually has mail, child's school work, and my purse….in addition to the custom placemats and beautiful sunflower arrangement.
Our dining table is generally a catch all of the things we move from other locations: papers, mail, books, my purse, the coffee thermos that disappears with us to work on a daily basis, etc. It's also the spot that ends up collecting the things we pick up from the living room. It generally holds all these items until we're forced to put the items away.
I have two beautiful candle holders with glass top and two 4 x 6 red pillar candles in it; and a Beautiful silk floral arrengement on a urn type of vase in between them at all times.
My dining room table is always clean with a centerpiece of some sort on it (I wish I could say the same for the kitchen table). We only use the dining room table when we have friends or family over.
I love a clean table with a vase of flowers in summer and a pretty table runner in the fall and winter.
On my kitchen table i have all my mail and magazine in the corner and in the middle i have some candles, and thats the only thing thats on it. so i guess its not that bad
Usually the weekly newspapers, my computer and of course, my cats. I have long given up on trying to keep my table decorated.
My dining room talbe is clean and clear with a large black metal decorative bowl filled with colorful spheres that match the room decor. The dining table top is glass and near the foyer so the incentive is great to keep it looking good!
Right now, a .veggie box from the garden and old papers.
RIGHT NOW – MY LAPTOP – AND A SILK FLOWER ARRANGMENT OF MY FAVORIT FLOWER – BLUE HYDRANGEA
My dining room table has either a runner or table cloth (I have an antique solid oak 45" sq. table with several leaves that has a burn mark on one corner) and either flowers or candles in the center. I change the centerpiece and/or runner every couple of months so I can enjoy different arrangements. However, my breakfast table holds all the "junk", mail, purse, bowl of fruit in the center – you normally can't see the top of this table.
We always have a red tablecloth plus random junk. Right now there's a little mail, a big container of twizzlers (courtesy of Costco), a few cleaning supplies, an empty vase, half folded laundry and last but not least… our cat that unfortunately sleeps on clean laundry.
Grocery tote bags needing to be returned to the car to be used at the next shopping trip.
in our last home you could never see the top of the dining room table, now we have built our dream home and the dining room is for special occassions only, always kept tidy with a beautiful orchid centerpiece and two large hurricanes. It also helps that the kids are grown and the dining room table is no longer homework central!
Right now mail and lunchboxes for sure.
When I am not expecting company my dining room table is strewn with paints, markers, drawing papers, canvases, crayons, coloring books, jewelry beads, almost complete and half dried crafts. My girls use that room!
Normally I keep four placemats, (which i change weekly, depending on my mood), 2 simple but elegant candles in the center, which are held in the center of globes in wrought iron candle holders. I also have a full wrought iron napkin holder on the table. Thanks!

I "try" to always have some kind of centerpiece–fresh flowers in a vase, bowl of fruit–and right now I still have candles left over from holiday decor on the table, but with the garland and poinsettias removed. They are in large clear holders filled with mixed nuts (in the shell.) Children leave things on the table occasionally, but I do try to keep it clear.
My dining room table is covered by a green and white checked remnant of vinyl on top of which is the newspaper of what ever day it is and maybe more than one day, assorted junk mail, a book that I started reading one day at lunch about two weeks ago, salt and pepper shakers and some napkins (maybe in a holder if I'm lucky). Under the vinyl is my husbands grandmother's 125 year old solid oak, 4 leaf , 7 foot table upon which baby diapers have been changed, bread has been kneaded, cookies have been cooled, motorcycle engines have been rebuilt, and carbuerators have been repaired. Someday, if I live long enough I will refinish it. In the meantime it is what it is.
I wish is was neat and tidy all the time, but the table is usually a holding spot for the day's mail, my purse, perhaps a coat and gloves and baby toys.
A stack of recent mail and my keys.
Right now it has a placemat with a shamrock plant, napkin basket, and salt & pepper on it, because I cleared off the table after dinner. If my husband cleared it off the poor table would be bear naked.
Have a great week!
Right now, we have a 5ft. Christmas tree, lights and art supplies on dining room table. We normally eat at the kitchen table so, the dining room table usually gets the junk!
Wow, it sounds like you've been to my house! Right now, as always, there is a giant stack of uncared for mail, an assortment of cat dishes (food and water) and several stacks of books that need sorting. There is, however, peaking through the middle of the chaos, a lovely bouquet of flowers bought just this morning from my favorite roadside flower lady so it's a little bit of a pretty mess.
A stack of folded towels, bananas, a pile of plastic containers and three glass vases filled with sand and candles.
A couple of Bibles, a library book, high school homework, a bag of chips and a washcloth grace our dining room table.
There is a ton of junk, mostly mail and half finished projects that I've been meaning to get to!
My current center piece is a fruit bowl surrounded by Disney princess figurines (nearly every one) holding hands. This was created by my 2-year-old and stays even when company comes…
I'm truly my mother's child: so I have bamboo plants, candles and napkins on my table.
Card making supplies, 2 candle sticks and a vase of artificial pink peonies.
At this moment, a x-mas gift hat need to be deliver, my bra, keys friday, sat, sunday papers, dog leash and my purse.
Various and assorted art projects and supplies belonging to my 7 and 5 year olds in different stages of completion.
I just recently moved into my new home so things are still a bit bare but I do have a beautiful antique
inspired mirrored serving platter on my dining table.
My dining room table doubles as a place for the kids to do homework and crafts. It's full of nicks and scratches and memories.
My dining table has shawl that I use for a runner and a silk arrangement with candleholders.I like to change it with each season.
Placemats that are crooked and folded up. Fruit bowl. Keys. Random junk mail. Pens. Maybe a receipt or old grocery list. Flowers in a vase that probably need to be thrown away because they are dead for the most part!
Our table is full of months old mail and hats and cats until company comes, then it's just the cats. They don't speak English so well, or maybe they're just ignoring us when we tell them to get down.
Always looking for some nice home interiors and gifts for dinning table
