No more pencils, no more books, summer is a great time to give kids’ bedrooms a new look. Enlist your children in the design, and find projects they can do themselves. HGTV.com’s Kids’ Rooms Design Guide has ideas, tips and simple decorating projects to get you started. Here are some of my favorites:

Desperately seeking storage solutions? Invest in an oversized shelving system and organize toys in color-coded bins. Design by restyle, Rate My Space.

Janell Beals created this “Big Boy’s Bedroom” on a tight budget. Her son got a kick out of the chalkboard-painted walls.

Bunk beds are a great space saver, but they can be less-than-stylish. I love these clean, white bunks dressed with red-and-white matching toile bedding. Design by samnadam.

I love these ideas for kids' rooms. I think the chalkboard paint is a really great idea. Is it easy to paint over in the future? I also really love that several of the examples showed decorating ideas for kids sharing a room because I expect to need bunk beds in a few years. Thanks for the post!
Hi Kandi, if you decide to create a chalkboard wall, it's not difficult to change the look later. Just treat chalkboard paint like any darker paint color that needs primer for good coverage. (Have you seen the colored chalkboard paints? Oh, my! So many possibilities. http://www.hudsonpaint.com/)
Have fun. Your little ones will love it!
We loved it too and are helping our readers/clients recreate it using budget bedding, price pleasing pillows and low cost lighting from the My Design Guide Value Vixens. Hope it does the design justice… .http://mydesignguide.blogspot.com/2010/06/elegant-little-girls-room-for-summer.html
