This week’s question: What’s your favorite part about gardening?

I love being outside and spending time pruning trees. It's hard to get stuff to grow in Flagstaff, Az. but composting helps a great deal!!!
sitting in my plot of thyme watching the bees all around me!
My favorite part about gardening is the way it feels to stand amidst the vegetables and flowers and trees at 6:00 AM with a cup of coffee and listen to the birds.
My favorite part of gardening is when the plants first shoot through the soil. Up until that point, it's all blind faith.
Gardening around my place in Oklahoma is a challenge. My favorite and most frustrating part is getting the vine rippened fruits and vegetables before the wild life does.
Staking up the vegetables.
I like having free herbs to throw in my meals!
The best thing about gardening is eating the fruits/veggies without washing them, especially if they are straight off the tree/vine, because all the natural unwashed flavors are wonderfully delicious! xD
All the fresh veggies that are steps outside my door! We eat so much healthier when there's an abundance of delicious fresh vegetables available.
Tomatoes!
I love the fact that things actually GROW in this garden. I've never had good soil before. I get volunteer tomatoes and herbs every year.
My favorite part of gardening is seeing all the pretty flowers in bloom.
I love the results fresh fruits and veggies bring to my meals. You can definitely taste the difference.
I don't particularly care for gardening to be honest. I grew up working in the garden and it got old quick! Now, with three kids, I find myself wanting to share a piece of that history…the hard work, the reward, and appreciation for the earth. We are a newly retired military family in our first home and now I'm researching how to compost so we can hopefully plant our little garden next spring!
My favorite thing about gardening is that it is so much like painting — you start with a blank canvas(soil), add some paints (plants) and a beautiful picture (garden) develops.
My favorite part of gardening is seeing the first signs of fruits/veggies on the plants. I stand there and think "wow! I did it!"
Well…it certainly isn't finding half eaten tomatoes the neighborhood squirrel gangs leave that's for sure. Grrrrrrrr…
That said…just using the earth for what it was meant to be used for brings me an extraordinary sense of satisfaction.
My favorite part of gardening is planting. I love the feel of fresh tilled soil in my hands
I enjoy the fruits of my labor and eating veggies I planted that are chemical free, they taste so much better! Gardening is so relaxing!!
I love seeing the new little seedlings peek up through the dirt!
My favorite part about gardening is being able to grow my own veggies, herbs, spices and fruits and using them in the meals i serve to my family… but the best part is being in the great outdoors and soaking up the sun and working in the rain feeling how it must of felt like for the people who founded this country felt farming the land we now call home
Being able to grow my own veggies… nothing better than eco-friendly and organic living! Mmm! I want some tomatoes :p
I inherited an amazing New England garden from the former resident. It blooms like an orchestra rising under the guidance of a brilliant conductor. But, for all it's beauty, what I love the most when I garden is the smell of the earth. If you were to ask me to describe the smell of life, that would be it.
Getting to eat fresh and organic fruits/veggies that you grew all by yourself.
My favorite part of gardening is after all the hard work put into it, picking the first, vine-ripened tomato and enjoying the perfection of the fruit, the smell as I slice it, and the fresh wonderful tomato taste. Nothing better!
Nothing is better than the feeling of connection with nature and the satisfaction of knowing your garden is providing wholesome food for your family just like your ancestors did. A vegetable garden gives you food without packaging and processing. Back to the basics of life.
Watching something I planted grow and it seems the vegetables I grow taste so much better.
I like everything when it come to gardening. The fruits, vegetables, preparing the soil. I LOVE GARDENING!!!!!
I was fortunate enough to grow up on a farm, even though I didn't appreciate it at the time! This is a small way that I can share what I learned from my parents about taking care of the land, and it will produce for you. I also like that my children have a tangible experience in caring for themselves instead of thinking food just magically appears in the grocery store.
I think that gardeing can be therapeutic and rewarding when you see how well your garden does. It gives me gratifying feeling of doing this on my own. It is rewarding and to share with family and friends is a great feeling too. Hard work does pay off in the end….
I have a great passion for gardening in my backyard. It feels so liberating to grow my own healthy and organic food. My favorite part about gardening is to watch my fruits and veggies grow and being outside in my backyard!
The beauty of it, and knowing I helped create it. And when gardening fruits and veggies, knowing my family is eating safe food.
Watching everything grow is such a miracle!! And then I loved watching my husband and daughter eat the vegetables straight out of the ground…. God's bounty abounds!!! Watching the care children give the garden is hearrtwarming and the joy on their faces when they have full-grown vegetables and fruits!
My favorite part is reaping the benefits of my labor and knowing that I grew it myself.
My favorite part of gardening (aside from reaping awesome rewards) is the alone time that i have with just my thoughts and how inexplicably relaxed it makes me. The only other person i ever want in my garden with me is… MY MOM. I absolutely LOVE when she comes over. I dig, plant and water while she sits, sips iced tea and shares her sweet memories with me.
All the veggies and herbs and pretty flowers, of course!!!! The watering – not so much!
You reap what you sow with water, tlc, and sun. We LOVE our garden(s)!
my favorite part of gardening is watching the amazment in my childrens eyes when they realize the seeds they planted are actually growing into something that they will actually be able to eat….and then the pride they feel when they show people the vegtables when they are grown and picked and they say "look what i did"……
The best thing about gardening is reaping the rewards and having tons of fresh veggies to eat
The first thing I do when I get off of work is head straight for the dirt. Love how I can destress with mother nature and be rewarded with great healthy food. The best!
I love having herbs in the garden that come back each year, makes me feel like I have a head start on the growing season. The ultimate favorite about gardening is standing by the garden, with the breeze blowing and taking in all the sweet smell of the herbs, mint, dill, etc and brushing up against each one for that beautiful scent and thinking about what I will make with them for the evening dinner. Love that!
I love the feeling of calm I get while gardening. you can think and pray and commune with nature.
I never was much of a gardener, but had always enjoyed a beautiful garden. I met my husband in 2006 and that all changed. We recently purchased our first home and needless to say, we have a clean palette to work with. It is such a joy to be able to escape into OUR garden and create something fruitful together. We make our own compost and we recently acquired a rain barrel. It is fun to be recycle that which we might just throw away or forget about altogether. My favorite thing would be just getting my hands in the dirt!
I love gardening! The entire process from beginning to end. Planting the seeds, watering the ground, anticipating the first shoots of life appearing like tiny treasures sparkling in the dirt…. then watching each day as the plants grow to maturity for us, to provide us with healthy nutrition. Plucking off that first bright red tomato, or taking in the scent of a fresh green pepper…. knowing how delicious these will be in your homemade spaghetti sauce! If anyone doesn't feel close to God during this, well……
I love the felling of the dirt in my hands , it is so cool to the touch and the smell of it alone can tell you how fertile it is.
The results; the flowers and bushes, the organic vegetables and berries to eat, and the wildlife like birds, lizards, butterflies and bees that the garden attracts.
My favorite part of gardening is right after your plants are in.The dirt is freshly tilled, nice and soft and earthy smelling. Weeds haven't started growing yet. It's full of promise.
Being able to make my home look beautiful and having the pride of seeing what I helped nature create. I can go outside and work in the flowers and feel so at peace and carefree. All my troubles seem to disappear when I see all the beauty and smell the wonderful aromas.
Gardening is comforting and therapeutic. My favorite part is watching beautiful things emerge and bloom from dirt.
my favorite part is of course the journey along the way . planting , weeding and mulching and getting dirty are only part of it. the greatest joy is when you are done just looking around and seeing all that you have accomplished and the beauty of it all.
