This week’s question: What food do you think needs specially-designed tableware?

I think there needs to be a tea specific mug. I always fill it too full with water and then I can't strain the tea bag, it just drips everywhere. If there were a special spoon sized platform that sat up above the cup and then drained back into it when you done that would be perfect. It is kind of hard to explain but I could draw you a picture hahaha!
Dogfood could use better bowl designs, especially for BIG dogs. They are real slobs!
Sushi, Most deffinetly. Theres a million different cute combos that you can do with sushi, but the plates, chop sticks, sauce bowls, and side plates all have to have a purpose in corresponding with the sushi.
Soup. A regular mug doesn't fit a whole can.
couscous… This noodle bowl is GORGEOUS
Something for spaghetti. It's always a mess when I eat it.
fijitas
Definitely rice and noodles. Noodles from spaghetti to Udon and any kind of rice. I find it hard to eat rice with chopsticks and it's messy with a fork too!!
caramel apples
Grapefruit. People used to use a special knife and fork for grapefruit–I still have one of the knives, but never see the knives or the forks for sale anywhere.
Absolutely agree–for any kind of liquid/noodle combo I need help! I wonder if there is a way to make ribs easier to eat. Those are both foods I tend to eat at home only since I make such a mess!
Any food could use specially designed tableware, the right type of plate or bowl can make any mundane food look spectacular!
ribs
Cupcakes!!! More often than not, my poor little cupcake falls to pieces because of me trying to peel off the paper. There are icing accidents and pieces of the cake fall to the floor and are gobbled up by the dog. It's a total travesty. Maybe a specially designed paper peeler? Maybe one day….
Corn on the cob
A macaroni and cheese bowl would be great at the table. I add lots of cheese and some milk to help keep it tender. The milk always gets in the elbow macaroni noodles and spills ONLY when it gets close to my mouth.
The Udon bowl is really cool!
I think it comes down to feeling special or having the people you are serving feel a little indulged. I know I am lacking in all sorts of great serving pieces from Italian to Chinese to Mexican, appetizers to main course to dessert. Variety is the spice of life! I would love to have more for my table…
peas
I like to use special dishes for any reason. As an example, there are times we celebrate a great report card and I make their favorite meal and dress up the table. Whenever I want to dress up the table or bring up my mood I like to use them too.. nothing is better then a beautifully set table for a meal.
Ethnic foods need special tableware. I am especially aware of these needs for Japanese food, since I'm Japanese. Little dipping bowls for the soy sauce, longer flat trays to arrange sushi nicely… so many needs and I can't find them here! That udon bowl looks extremely useful.
Asparagus, no matter how it is prepared, it deserves a dish of its own shape
Smoothies! To allow something between drinking and eating. I've seen straws with little scoops on the end and that's close, but the scoop needs to be bigger.
In Australia we ate at this great restaurant. My husband loves lobsters and they have an oyster dish that was served in a dish that looked like a tagine. When the lid came of the dish at the bottom had 6 circular sections to perfectly hold the oysters around the edges, kind of like a deviled egg holder. I have looked everywhere for one like it for him, can't find it. The tagine allowed the oysters to be infused with lemongrass, sweet basil, ginger, chilli & fresh coriander flavors and the presentation was awesome!

Deserts with a twist-study on lemon….or any build your own bite size treat. Start with a cookie and add your personal touch. So the tableware would be one large sectioned plate and small plates to build on. I had to go to great lengths to find the right set. It does not match and could use a bit more color for taste appeal…
Something to hide the unsightly remnants of eating fruit. Be it peelings or pits, I don’t like to see those as I am munching on my juicy fruit.
I think special dinnerware would be great for foods that you eat with your hands that all the filling starts falling out the back as soon as you start eating them. Tacos, burritos, gyros, even fully loaded cheeseburgers. Or maybe I'm just a messy eater!
Taco's hands down ya need little trays to stand them up when your building them
Def Sushi and Noodles.
MATE MUGSSS!!………YERBA MATE IS EVERYWHERE NOW A DAYS! . WE NEED MATE MUGS AND THE MATE METAL STRAWS ( bombillas )
Tacos, naturally. You pile them high with ingredients, then you have to lay them on their side and everything falls out. You end up picking up all of the ingredients with your fingers and refilling the shell every time you take a bite.
Just a special plate with long ridges to keep corn on the cob from rolling around!
Deviled Eggs definatley need to be displayed, but when you do find a plate/platter for them, there are not enough places for them. Devinately need to display more in something practical but beautiful.
Is this where we answer the question? I can't find anywhere else to put it…..
individual casseroles…perfect for everything from crabcakes, to corn pudding…right from the oven to the plate…every time i see a potter who throws a one or two person casserole, I buy it…cooking for two can be sweet and intimate with a small two person casserole, rather than a large dish to accommodate 8
a sandwich plate with ridges to keep the pickle spear juice juice from soaking the bread.
I think i need special dinnerware for each food, I have a bad habit of having every meal end up on my shirt.
The right bowl to eat Mac and cheese!! to keep it just warm and keep the cheese melted to perfection….not being dry or gooey.
My suggestion: A dinner plate that has a higher and a lower section so that sauces and gravies stay in their designated place along side the vegetables or other side dishes. Instead of just cutting the plate down the middle you could make the lower section an interesting shape…kidney shape or crescent shaped….You could have some pretty designs with this concept…Many times the main entree sauces and gravies end up in the vegetables and it doesn't look appealing while you are eating it. My second suggestion a spork (sppon/fork) that has a lttle deeper bowl for noodles and meat soups.
Barbecue is so messy and I hate getting the stickiness all over my hands. Then the napkin gets stuck to your fingers when you try to wipe the sauce off, making the problem worse. I think tools like little tongs with fingers and teeth that you can rip and tear the meat off the bone with would be great..
I would say soups definately need their specialized tableware, especially soups with noodles. Only particular mugs/bowls with handles really work the best.
Kendall – try baking your cupcakes in the silicone cupcake forms. The cupcake slides right out and can be eaten as is or placed in a paper cup afterwords for decoration. This way, there is no need for paper peeling
Tacos definitely need a specially designed plate!
What food do you think needs specially-designed tableware? Answer: Seafood. How many times have we all served seafood and come up short on the utensils we need? I know there are cute plates, etc to follow the theme, but we need all the tools to get that shell off the seafood, whether it be crabs or lobster help us out here. I've seen some tools but we need a set/kit so we don't come home with only half of what we need.
Gorgeous, and genius! What a wonderful piece.
Something to make eating wedge desserts (cake, pie, etc.) a one hand only activity. Great for picnics or beach parties.
ALL FOODS BECAUSE ALL DINNERS SHOULD BE SPECIAL ..NOT ONLY LOOK GOOD BUT TASTE GOOD AN PRESENT GOOD ALSO..
Ice tea requires a tall glass so that you can fill it with enough ice and tea; but then you need a spoon with a LONG stem to reach all the way to the bottom. This is essential!
chicken wings! whenever you get them anywhere, they have the dip in a little cup. unless you have one of the wings shaped like a little drumstick, it's a pain to try and dip them in the dressing. so then you have to pour it on the wings and make even more of a mess (wings are messy enough on their own!). so maybe if there was some sort of dish that had a larger and more shallow area for the dressing where you could sort of roll the wing or pull it through the dressing…….it would be sweetness. and even a bottom tier where you could through your discarded already-devoured wings so no one has to look at them!
Nothing. I have bowls. I put food in them. I wash them when I'm done.
Where do folks put all these specialty dishes? They must have enormous kitchens.
I wish someone would invent a dinner plate that dips around the edges or perhaps is dipped into four corners! I have lots of messy food and sometimes need dipping sauce, but I want it all in one plate to carry! Don't make me grab two or three dipping bowls or get hot sauce in my cooked apples!..hum….maybe that would good too? Yep…need a really good oven-ware, microwave, dishwasher safe plate to carry with one hand!
I believe any meal you prepare for the special people in your life deserves specially-designed tableware. Specially-designed tableware does not always have to conjure up thoughts of really expensive dishes. It just needs to be special to the consumer. My youngest daughter's favorite plate is the "fishy plate." This plate is multicolored with a friendly fish set in the center. It's specially designed to suit her and all of the foods she loves.
I always need a specific bowl to hold my can of soup. Most are too small or get too hot.
I need better designed lunch containers, that aren't plastic, that can also accomodate utensils so I can have them all in a neat package. I find plenty that are plastic but I am too afraid to put them in the microwave.
Tacos…they are hard to put down once you start eating them. It would be nice not to have to hold them till they were gone. And the ones still on the plate lose some ingredients before you are able to pick them up.
