  7. Excuse me, but just about everybody agrees that abortion as a means of birth control is a bad thing. We all hate abortion. The difference is in approach and passion. The chasm is that one side approaches abortion (and marriage and sexuality, and many other issues) as a breakdown in the social order, so their solution is to (re-)establish order through law as well appeals to scriptural and ecclesiastical authority. Breakdown in social order is a frightening thing, so they have great passion. The other side views the problem more as a breakdown in relationship, so they seek to understand the reasons why women have abortions, and are more likely to emphasize prevention. That other people have problems is not such a frightening thing.
