Switching to Fall Decor

Autumn has been, and will always be, my favorite season. Which says a lot, because I generally don’t play favorites. My tastes change often and I hate hierarchies, so put 2 + 2 together and you’ve got a recipe 4 a pretty scatterbrained girl. Ha! Do you see what I did there?

Yet there’s something about the fall that absolutely transforms me. Perhaps it’s the sweet and spicy chai teas, cozy knits or my favorite equestrian boots that make my heart sing. Whatever the catalyst, I enjoy nothing more than peeling back the August monthly calendar to reveal a bright, crisp September full of promise, leaves and opportunity.

I generally alter my home decor when I change out my closet. However, this fall, because the renovation isn’t finished, my autumn decorating switch is on hold. Since I refuse to feel sad during my favorite time of year, I’m dedicating this entire post to how I plan to change up my decor next year. (And let’s hope the renovation is finished by then, ok?)

Here’s an inspiration board of what I want my summer decorating scheme to look like:

And here I’ve incorporated my favorite fall decorations:

Instead of a light, breezy feeling, I like to feel more grounded in my space when autumn rolls around. I’d replace gauzy curtains with thick, heavy draperies, throw some patterned rugs on the ground and add more visual detail!

I love the look. What’s on tap for your fall decorations? For inspiration, check out a few of my favorite autumn decorating ideas, including centerpieces, DIY treatments and more:

  1. The pictures are awesome. – Fall is by far my favorite season. I always enjoy decorating and getting ready for the cold weather. . I’ve been buy falling decorations for years at Piper Classics in Bucks County (http://retail.piperclassics.com) and they do a great job of staying current with new colors, candle scents, etc.

  2. Not sure how to decorate for Fall in Florida……still hot……too sunny……
and all that texture/heavier fabric, looks too "hot" for the house.

  3. Maybe just go with some of the colors of fall. I love the oranges and greens of various squashes and gourds. Can make various table decorations with White or Crystal bowls. Also Yellows for the sun do you get Indian summer down your way. First day of Fall here in Southwest Michigan and we are at 90 degrees. I guess I am saying you don't have to go with the dark colors of Fall there are a lot of bright ones too. Have Fun.
